    Delayed hepatic rupture post ultrasound-guided percutaneous liver biopsy: A case report.

    RATIONALE: Hemorrhage, one of complications after liver biopsy, is often identified immediately after the procedure while delayed liver rupture is relatively rare. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 45-year-old woman was diagnosed with undetermined liver cirrhosis and abnormal liver function. To determine the etiology and severity of liver cirrhosis, ultrasound-guided liver biopsy was arranged. The patients did not complain any pain during the procedure. Ultrasound examination on postoperative day1 (POD 1) and MRI on POD 3 showed no evidence of hematoma and ascites. On POD 7, however, the patient was taken to the hospital with a sudden onset of pain in the right upper quadrant of the abdomen. DIAGNOSES: Contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed liver rupture of right inferior segment of the liver with subcapsular hematoma. INTERVENTIONS: Patient was treated with infusion of 2-unit red blood cell suspension, fluid and hemostatics. OUTCOMES: The vital signs of the patient were stabilized after the therapy. The follow-up ultrasound 1 month later showed a shrunken subcapsular hematoma measuring 4.2 × 2.1 cm at the right lobe. LESSONS: Whenever a liver biopsy procedure is performed, the care should be taken to avoid puncturing those areas that may have liver incisure. Moreover, the patient need to rest for several days and to avoid heavy activities, which is one of the major risk factors for post-procedure bleeding

    Understanding the Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) of the Chinese-English Major Students in Chengdu College University of Electronic Science and Technology, China

    This study was conducted in Chengdu College of University of Electronic Science and Technology, China and the English major’s Chinese students, as participants. The two objectives and research questions were answered by using a mixed design methodology. These different instruments: questionnaire survey organized in four dimensions: Knowledge, Attitudes, Skills and Awareness, classroom observation and semi-structured interview were employed to gather data from 184 English major’s students who participated in this study using purposive sampling. The findings revealed that the Chinese students who participated in this study had moderate Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC). This implies that all four components of ICC; knowledge, attitudes, skills and awareness were found in the students’ English language teaching and learning. The implication therefore is that, ICC should be inculcated in all levels of teaching and learning activities, as this likely to help students to be confident when communicating with people from different cultural and linguistic background, as this helps them to be familiar with varieties of English spoken by different users in the world

    Focusing RKKY interaction by graphene P-N junction

    The carrier-mediated RKKY interaction between local spins plays an important role for the application of magnetically doped graphene in spintronics and quantum computation. Previous studies largely concentrate on the influence of electronic states of uniform systems on the RKKY interaction. Here we reveal a very different way to manipulate the RKKY interaction by showing that the anomalous focusing - a well-known electron optics phenomenon in graphene P-N junctions - can be utilized to refocus the massless Dirac electrons emanating from one local spin to the other local spin. This gives rise to rich spatial interference patterns and symmetry-protected non-oscillatory RKKY interaction with a strongly enhanced magnitude.     Gapped spin liquid with Z2\mathbb{Z}_2-topological order for kagome Heisenberg model

    We apply symmetric tensor network state (TNS) to study the nearest neighbor spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on Kagome lattice. Our method keeps track of the global and gauge symmetries in TNS update procedure and in tensor renormalization group (TRG) calculation. We also introduce a very sensitive probe for the gap of the ground state -- the modular matrices, which can also determine the topological order if the ground state is gapped. We find that the ground state of Heisenberg model on Kagome lattice is a gapped spin liquid with the Z2\mathbb{Z}_2-topological order (or toric code type), which has a long correlation length ξ10\xi\sim 10 unit cell length. We justify that the TRG method can handle very large systems with over thousands of spins. Such a long ξ\xi explains the gapless behaviors observed in simulations on smaller systems with less than 300 spins or shorter than 10 unit cell length. We also discuss experimental implications of the topological excitations encoded in our symmetric tensors.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figure
