Heme Oxygenase-1 Accelerates Cutaneous Wound Healing in Mice

Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), a cytoprotective, pro-angiogenic and anti-inflammatory enzyme, is strongly induced in injured tissues. Our aim was to clarify its role in cutaneous wound healing. In wild type mice, maximal expression of HO-1 in the skin was observed on the 2nd and 3rd days after wounding. Inhibition of HO-1 by tin protoporphyrin-IX resulted in retardation of wound closure. Healing was also delayed in HO-1 deficient mice, where lack of HO-1 could lead to complete suppression of reepithelialization and to formation of extensive skin lesions, accompanied by impaired neovascularization. Experiments performed in transgenic mice bearing HO-1 under control of keratin 14 promoter showed that increased level of HO-1 in keratinocytes is enough to improve the neovascularization and hasten the closure of wounds. Importantly, induction of HO-1 in wounded skin was relatively weak and delayed in diabetic (db/db) mice, in which also angiogenesis and wound closure were impaired. In such animals local delivery of HO-1 transgene using adenoviral vectors accelerated the wound healing and increased the vascularization. In summary, induction of HO-1 is necessary for efficient wound closure and neovascularization. Impaired wound healing in diabetic mice may be associated with delayed HO-1 upregulation and can be improved by HO-1 gene transfer

Discussions around Zygmunt Bauman. A contribution to considerations on the Polish Internet political folklore

    No full text
The subject of this research is Internet folklore. In the present paper, Internet comments were interpreted as narratives unveiling a collective, axio-normative worldview. The main function of the analysed stories is to confirm the dualistic vision of the world that is based on the opposition of us vs. them. The research field was a Polish conservative web portal “wPolityce”. The subject of discussions of Internet users was prof. Zygmunt Bauman and the protest of the right-wing circles during one of his lectures at the University of Wroclaw in 2013

Representations of the past. Reflection supported by field studies conducted in the village Czermin

W trakcie prowadzonych przeze mnie badań terenowych postanowiłem podążać za wskazaniami i odniesieniami moich respondentów, aby uwrażliwić projekt względem empirycznie badanej rzeczywistości. Zakomunikowałem szereg kulturowo ukonstytuowanych czynników warunkujących narracje o przeszłości (stereotypy; schematy myślowe i narracyjne; przyjmowane przez respondentów w trakcie wywiadu przeświadczenia historyczne, normatywne, światopoglądowe). In the course of my fieldwork I decided to follow the suggestions and references of my respondents to raise awareness of the project relative to empirically tested reality. In this way, I got a number of texts , places and objects that people saw as an adequate representation of the history of his community . Acquired knowledge has given me a fuller understanding of the content of interviews. Interviews allowed to re-read given indication. In my attempts to interpret , based on a number of theoretical concepts , which the most important was the work of interpretation of Paul Ricoeur , I made a sketch of experienced reality. I informed a number of culturally constituted determinants of narratives about the past (stereotypes , patterns of thought and narrative , adopted by the respondents during the interview conviction: historical, normative , philosophical ) . The main observations and at the same time the main theses of my work are two structural elements of expression. These are: the cultural perspective of " the victims " (referring to the triad proposed by A. Assman ) and the prospect of " I , relatives , and others " (referring to the concept of P. Ricoeur )

Innovative Technological Materials: Structural Properties by Neutron Scattering, Synchrotron Radiation and Modeling

    No full text
This book provides at first ideas on the answers that neutrons and Synchrotron Radiation could give in innovative materials science and technology. In particular, non-conventional, unusual or innovative neutron and x-ray scattering experiments (from both the scientific and the instrumental point of view) will be described which either have novel applications or provide a new insight into material science and technology. Moreover, a capability of the existing and the enhanced constitutive models and numerical procedures to predict complex behaviour of the novel multifunctional materials is examined
