    Photoionization of the valence orbitals of OH

    We report the results of studies of the photoionization cross sections and asymmetry parameters for the 3Ļƒ and 1Ļ€ levels of OH, corresponding to the production of the Aā€‰^3Ī , cā€‰^1Ī , aā€‰^1Ī”, bā€‰^1Ī£+, and Xā€‰^3Ī£āˆ’ molecular ions. The calculations employed multipletā€specific Hartreeā€“Fock potentials and numerical photoelectron continuum orbitals, obtained using the iterative Schwinger variational method. Noticeable nonstatistical behavior of the cross sections is seen, mainly for the 1Ļ€ level, although deviations are not as pronounced as in other openā€shell systems. Comparison with fragmentary experimental data is encouraging, although synchrotron radiation studies are needed to fully assess the accuracy of the calculated cross sections

    Shape-resonance-induced non-Franckā€“Condon effects in (2+1) resonance enhanced multiphoton ionization of the C 3Ī g state of O2

    We show that strong non-Franckā€“Condon effects observed in (2+1) resonance enhanced multiphoton ionization of the C 3Pig state of O2 are due to the ksigmau shape resonance previously observed in single-photon studies of diatomic molecules. Calculated vibrational branching ratios for the v=2,3 levels of the C 3Ī g state are in reasonable agreement with experiment. Certain discrepancies remain in comparing theoretical results with the measured spectra, and possible electron-correlation effects which underly this are discussed

    Diffusion algorithms and data reduction routine for onsite launch predictions for the transport of Titan 3 C exhaust effluents

    The NASA/MSFC multilayer diffusion algorithms have been specialized for the prediction of the surface impact for the dispersive transport of the exhaust effluents from the launch of a Titan 3 vehicle. This specialization permits these transport predictions to be made at the launch range in real time so that the effluent monitoring teams can optimize their monitoring grids. Basically, the data reduction routine requires just the meteorology profiles for the thermodynamics and kinematics of the atmosphere as an input. These profiles are graphed along with the resulting exhaust cloud rise history, the center line concentrations and dosages, and the hydrogen chloride isopleths

    Oxidation and corrosion behavior of modified-composition, low-chromium 304 stainless steel alloys

    The effects of substituting less strategic elements than Cr on the oxidation and corrosion resistance of AISI 304 stainless steel were investigated. Cyclic oxidation resistance was evaluated at 870 C. Corrosion resistance was determined by exposure of specimens to a boiling copper-rich solution of copper sulfate and sulfuric acid. Alloy substitutes for Cr included Al, Mn, Mo, Si, Ti, V, Y, and misch metal. A level of about 12% Cr was the minimum amount of Cr required for adequate oxidation and corrosion resistance in the modified composition 304 stainless steels. This represents a Cr saving of at least 33%. Two alloys containing 12% Cr and 2% Al plus 2% Mo and 12% Cr plus 2.65% Si were identified as most promising for more detailed evaluation

    A two dimensional finite difference thermal model was developed to predict the effects of heating profile, fill level, and cryogen type prior to experimental testing the Generic Research Cryogenic Tank (GRCT). These numerical predictions will assist in defining test scenarios, sensor locations, and venting requirements for the GRCT experimental tests. Boiloff rates, tank-wall and fluid temperatures, and wall heat fluxes were determined for 20 computational test cases.     Using Environmentally Friendly Renormalization, we present an analytic calculation of the series for the renormalization constants that describe the equation of state for the O(N)O(N) model in the whole critical region. The solution of the beta-function equation, for the running coupling to order two loops, exhibits crossover between the strong coupling fixed point, associated with the Goldstone modes, and the Wilson-Fisher fixed point. The Wilson functions Ī³Ī»\gamma_\lambda, Ī³Ļ•\gamma_\phi and Ī³Ļ•2\gamma_{\phi^2}, and thus the effective critical exponents associated with renormalization of the transverse vertex functions, also exhibit non-trivial crossover between these fixed points.Comment: 21 pages, 4 figures, version to appears in IJMPL
