The objective of this chapter is to discuss Razi's contribution to the development of traditional psychology, linking the human mind and body. It is of note that the significance of this chapter is appreciating efforts of Islamic thinkers and scientists like Razi and his valuable and outstanding contributions to the field of psychology. The method adopted in this research is based on library materials, internet sources and academic discussions. The theory and the research framework are limited to focusing mainly on reviewing the person of AI-Razi, nexus between the human mind and body and other similar Razi's outstanding contribution

The contribution of the faculty of engineering in Islamizing engineering studies

    Get PDF
Islamization as an idea is not a mere process of engagement rather a dynamic and ongoing school of thought; hence, Islamized engineering is a value-laden enterprise and a process reconceptualization. Islamized engineering sciences will generate diverse insights different, to certain a extent, from western conception of engineering. It will connect us to the history of Islamic literature and the salient manifestations of Islamic civilization. This paper aspires to review and evaluate the methodological and epistemological approaches adopted by the Kulliyyah of Engineering in its attempt to infuse Islamic values in the general framework of its activities; from administration to academic and from student's affairs to curriculum development

    Ibn al-Jazzar on fever

    Get PDF
The objective ofthis chapter is to discuss types of fever introduced by Ibn AI-Jazzar in his book entitled Zad al-Musafir wa-qut al-hadir which was translated by Gerrit Bos. According to Bos, since the book was written, none of the medical works of the Islamic physician dealing with fevers has been published in a critical edition and translation, thus make him decide to do so for our references. The significance of this chapter is to expose the contribution by Ibn AI-Jazzar as one of our Muslim scholars on fever during his time. The method used in this chapter is by referring to the translation of original text by Ibn AIJazzar, journals as well as reliable online references. The research framework covers type of fevers during time ofIbn AI-Jazzar, the symptoms and treatment suggested by him and the enhancement done in medical field in identifying specific kind of fevers by referring to the findings from the schola

Employing a failure criterion with interaction terms to simulate the progressive failure of carbon-epoxy laminates

    Get PDF
A failure criterion with the existence of coupling terms is employed to investigate the progressive failure in anisotropic laminated carbon-epoxy plates. The criterion is employed because it is developed recently. Moreover, the criterion allows interaction between fiber and matrix properties. This paper is aimed to investigate the contribution of the coupling terms and thus, to simulate the progressive failure of the carbon-epoxy plates. A mathematical model and computational model are presented for the analysis. The deformation of the plates is predicted based on higher order shear deformation theory. Variation of material properties through thickness is used and accommodated by a discrete layer approach. A program based on finite element method is developed to determine the lamina stresses. Stresses calculated are used in the present failure model to determine the first ply failure and last ply failure, by progressively reducing the stiffness of the laminas. Finally, the first ply failure and last ply failure results are used to determine the lower and upper bounds within which the true load carrying capacity lies. The numerical results obtained show some improvement compared to other failure criteria

Manufacturing sector in Malaysia is the main driver in the economy. Therefore, most of the universities in Malaysia have Manufacturing Engineering Programs. Actually number of Manufacturing Engineering Programs is higher than Industrial Engineering Programs throughout the country. The related departments in Higher Education Organizations make frequently Benchmarking studies to compare their Manufacturing Engineering Programs with the other universities not only in the country but also in the region. Manufacturing Engineering Department at IIUM has been conducting another major curriculum review to update the program based on the recent changes in Faculty Outcomes for New Accreditation period by taking stakeholdersโ€™ feedback into account. This paper proposes the use of a data-model based Ontology of Manufacturing for reviewing and changing the Manufacturing Engineering Programs and gives a kind of benchmarking for the new Manufacturing Engineering Program at IIUM

The invention of the helium-neon gas laser by Ali Javan

    Get PDF
The chief aim of this chapter is to highlight one ofthe most important inventions ofthe 20th , century which was created by the Iranian professor Ali lavan. This invention is the gas laser composed of Helium-Neon Laser. In this chapter the theory of the gas laser, its main components and advantages will be dealt with in comparison to the normal laser. The significance of the study lies in the fact that Ali Javan was one of the main inventors or more precisely a co-inventor of the gas laser. He has yet the distinction, however, for his principal contributions in the period preceding the laser, this period itself having its beginning with the original discovery of the well-known masers, the equivalent of the lasers operating at the microwave frequencies (A. lavan, 1961). As events had it in lavan own history, and shortly following within month's time ofthis original discover

Free vibration analysis of laminated composite plates based on higher order shear deformation theory by using finite element method

    Get PDF
The present work deals with free vibration analysis of laminated composite plates using a present higher order displacement model. The present model is tested on the evaluation of free vibration of laminated composite plates in order to illustrate the deficiency of the classical plate theory and the first order shear deformation theory. The present work is also aimed at conducting a parametric study to investigate the frequency response of laminated composite plates for different material properties, number of layers, fiber orientations, boundary conditions and side to thickness ratios. A finite element computer code was developed and implemented to carry out the work

Energy particle-physics : the efforts of Abdel Nasser Tawfic

    Get PDF
Particle physics kas impacted the philosophy of science greatly. It is a branch of physics that studies the existence and interactions of particles that are the constituents of what is usually referred to as matter or radiation. Abdel Nasser Tawfik, Egyptian-born German particle physicist has made his mark in this field. He has the award of Who's Who in Science and Engineering and aims at simplifying scientific issues for public and fmding nexus between science and religion. Dr. Tawfik has been providing seminars on various scientific issues. The objective of this chapter is to discuss his contribution to energy particle specifically in the area of Quantum Chromo-Dynamics (QCD). It is of note that the significance of this chapter is appreciating efforts of Islamic Thinkers and Scientists like Tawfik and his QCD phase diagram contribution to the field of energy particlephysics. The method ofresearch adopted is based on library materials, internet sources and academic discussions. The theory and the research framework are limited to focusing mainly on reviewing the person of Abdel Nasser Tawfik, energy particle physics and the Tawfik's outstanding contributio
