C-reactive protein (CRP) has been shown to be an important part of acute phase reaction in domestic mammals. We investigated the presence of CRP in Slovenian sheep in order to obtain a better understanding of the distribution of CRP in ovine species. The reference sample comprised fifty-two clinically healthy female sheep (14 Solča breed and 38 Bovško breed, aged between six months and four years). Assay for CRP was carried out in blood serum using a turbidimetric immunoassay (TIA) with rabbit polyclonal antibodies against human CRP molecule. Values for CRP ranged between 0.000 and 13.600 mg/l, while concentration of CRP (overall mean±s.e.m.) was 6.280±0.429 mg/l. Sample reference limits (95% confidence interval) were between 0.086 and 12.474 mg/l. Mean CRP concentrations for both breeds were 5.235±0.429 for Bovško sheep and 9.115±0.647 mg/l for Solča sheep, respectively (P<0.001). It can be concluded that CRP serum levels represent the result of compromised metabolic and immunological activity. This study was thought to be helpful in distinguishing between normal and pathological serum values for CRP in sheep.C reaktivni protein (CRP) spada među važnije komponente akutne upalne reakcije u domaćih sisavaca. U ovom radu smo istraživali prisutnost CRP u slovenskih ovaca radi boljeg poznavanja njegove raspodjele.

Analizirali smo osam krmiva: kompletnu smjesu za muzne krave K-18, sijeno (talijanski ljulj, bijela i crvena djetelina), kukuruzno krmno brašno, silažu kukuruza, pšenične posije, sojinu sačmu (44% sirovih bjelančevina) i suhe repine rezance. Upotrijebili smo rendgensku fluorescentnu spektrometriju. The paper deals with the frequency of microelements and especially trace elements which appear in the soil and then in different ways migrate into forage plants. The aim of our experiment was to estimate the aluminium (Al), silicon (Si) and titanium (Ti) content in feedstuffs produced in northeastern (NE) part of Slovenia. We analyzed eight feedstuffs using X-ray fluoroscence spectrometry (K-18 compound feedstuff, hay which consists of Italian ryegrass, white clover and red clover, corn middlings, maize silage, grass silage, wheat bran, soybean cake 44 % CP, and dry beet pulp) in twenty replicates to ensure enough variability. The mean value of Al was 3.05×10-3 g/g DM, Si 6.06×10-3 g/g DM and Ti 5.22×10-5 g/g DM in all analysed feeds. The range between minimum and maximum value among eight feedstuffs concerning Si 2.27×10-2 then Al 7.93×10-3 and Ti 2.07×10-4. This basic research in the selected samples could be important for further research on the nutritional effects of microelements (Al, Si, Ti) on animals

There is a general agreement that the main reason for domestication was to provide a reliable source of food protein. Wild animals were hunted for thousands of years, killed for meat, wool, fur, and liquid by our predecesors. This one-way relationship between humans and animals was changed much later, during domastication and until know, the men took responsibility for animals and changed and developed different production system and ethical relationship with animals. After Second World War, the governments tried to change so called traditional agriculture to more intensive. Animals have been kept in high concentration and for the continuous production as a consequence, disease control became essential. European Union issued the paper on food safety (White paper on food safety 2000) where the EU commission triedto push forward a framework of legislation for further improvement and to develope more transparent and improved quality standards throughout a food chain from farm to table. This paper reviews a number of recent developments, starting with an integrated quality control system that collecting important data from the animal birth, through to the animal rearing phase to the end (i.e. slaughter). The importance of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) is discussed together with their concepts to assure safe animal food production
