<p>Abstract</p> <p>Goals</p> <p>The main purpose of this study is to broaden the clinicopathological spectrum and increase recognition of follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) through analysis of the clinical and pathological features of 50 cases.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>The clinicopathological features of total 50 cases of FDCS were analyzed including a review of 44 cases reported in Chinese literature before October 2009 and six original cases from the pathology files conducted by the authors.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The youngest patient came under observation in this study is only seven years old. Including the cases contributed by the authors, our literary review indicated that male dominated the tumor cases (M: F = 3: 2). 28 cases (56%) present with this disease in extranodal sites. Tumor cells demonstrated positive staining for the follicular dendritic cell markers CD21 (47/49), CD35 (43/45), CD23 (20/23) and CD68 (23/25). In situ hybridization for Epstein-Barr virus-encoded RNA was performed in 10 cases. Nevertheless, EBV expression was absent in all these cases. The follow-up analysis of all cases shows that 26 (81.2%) patients were alive and disease free; 6 (18.8%) patients were alive with recurrent disease or metastasis; and nobody had died of this disease at the time of last follow-up.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The diagnosis of the FDCS is based on the findings of morphology and immunohistochemistry. The FDCS occurred in China should be viewed and treated as a low-grade sarcoma, and the role of the EBV in the pathogenesis of this tumor is still uncertain. There is a possibility that the tumor might be racial or geographic correlated, because most cases were reported from Eastern Asia area; it's particular the case of the liver or spleen tumor.</p

Generating Robust Adversarial Examples against Online Social Networks (OSNs)

Online Social Networks (OSNs) have blossomed into prevailing transmission channels for images in the modern era. Adversarial examples (AEs) deliberately designed to mislead deep neural networks (DNNs) are found to be fragile against the inevitable lossy operations conducted by OSNs. As a result, the AEs would lose their attack capabilities after being transmitted over OSNs. In this work, we aim to design a new framework for generating robust AEs that can survive the OSN transmission; namely, the AEs before and after the OSN transmission both possess strong attack capabilities. To this end, we first propose a differentiable network termed SImulated OSN (SIO) to simulate the various operations conducted by an OSN. Specifically, the SIO network consists of two modules: 1) a differentiable JPEG layer for approximating the ubiquitous JPEG compression and 2) an encoder-decoder subnetwork for mimicking the remaining operations. Based upon the SIO network, we then formulate an optimization framework to generate robust AEs by enforcing model outputs with and without passing through the SIO to be both misled. Extensive experiments conducted over Facebook, WeChat and QQ demonstrate that our attack methods produce more robust AEs than existing approaches, especially under small distortion constraints; the performance gain in terms of Attack Success Rate (ASR) could be more than 60%. Furthermore, we build a public dataset containing more than 10,000 pairs of AEs processed by Facebook, WeChat or QQ, facilitating future research in the robust AEs generation. The dataset and code are available at https://github.com/csjunjun/RobustOSNAttack.git.Comment: 26 pages, 9 figure

With the rapid development of advanced mobile intelligent terminals, driving tasks are diverse, and new traffic safety problems occur. We propose a new research on physiological characteristics and nonparametric tests for the master-slave driving task, especially for evaluation of driversā€™ mental workload in mountain area highway in nighttime scenario. First, we establish the experimental platform based driving simulator and design the master-slave driving task. Second, based on the physiological data and subjective evaluation for mental workload, we use statistical methods to composite the physical changes evolution analysis in a driving simulator. Finally, we finished nonparametric test of the driversā€™ psychological load and road test. The results show that in compassion with the daytime scenario, drivers should pay much effort to driving skills and risk identification in the nighttime scenario. Thus, in the same driving condition, drivers should bear the higher level of mental workload, and it has been subjected to even greater pressures and intensity of emotions. Document type: Articl

EVM-CNN: Real-Time Contactless Heart Rate Estimation from Facial Video

With the increase in health consciousness, noninvasive body monitoring has aroused interest among researchers. As one of the most important pieces of physiological information, researchers have remotely estimated the heart rate (HR) from facial videos in recent years. Although progress has been made over the past few years, there are still some limitations, like the processing time increasing with accuracy and the lack of comprehensive and challenging datasets for use and comparison. Recently, it was shown that HR information can be extracted from facial videos by spatial decomposition and temporal filtering. Inspired by this, a new framework is introduced in this paper to remotely estimate the HR under realistic conditions by combining spatial and temporal filtering and a convolutional neural network. Our proposed approach shows better performance compared with the benchmark on the MMSE-HR dataset in terms of both the average HR estimation and short-time HR estimation. High consistency in short-time HR estimation is observed between our method and the ground truth

We prove a simple equivalence between the virtual count of rational curves in the total space of an anti-nef line bundle and the virtual count of rational curves maximally tangent to a smooth section of the dual line bundle. We conjecture a generalization to direct sums of line bundles.Comment: 15 pages, version accepted for publication in Advances in Mathematic

Thermo-economic analysis of a novel partial cascade organic-steam Rankine cycle

    Get PDF
Conventional heat batteries and concentrated solar power systems adopt subcritical steam Rankine cycles (SRCs) to avoid the technical challenges of supercritical cycles. The water evaporation temperature of 310ā€“337 Ā°C and live steam pressure of 10ā€“14 MPa limit the cycle efficiency (around 42%). This paper proposes a novel partial cascade organic-steam Rankine cycle (ORC-SRC) system to increase the fluid evaporation temperature and thermal efficiency. The ORC-SRC uses a mixture of biphenyl and diphenyl oxide as the top cycle fluid. The mixture absorbs heat from the molten salts and evaporates at about 400 Ā°C to drive a turbine, and then the exhaust vapor releases heat to the bottom SRC. The ORC contributes to saturated steam generation, and molten salts supply the rest heat to the SRC through the steam superheater and reheater. The fundamentals of the system are illustrated, and mathematical models are built. Thermo-economic performance of the system is investigated. The results show that the proposed system significantly increases the average temperature of the power fluid in the heating process, leading to a maximum cycle efficiency of 45.3%. Meanwhile, the moderate live steam pressure of 7.44 MPa in the SRC reduces the leakage loss of the high-pressure turbine and equipment costs. Despite a smaller temperature drop of molten salts during discharge, the equivalent payback period of the ORC-SRC is within 4 years

Tissue-restricted genome editing in vivo specified by microRNA-repressible anti-CRISPR proteins

CRISPR-Cas systems are bacterial adaptive immune pathways that have revolutionized biotechnology and biomedical applications. Despite the potential for human therapeutic development, there are many hurdles that must be overcome before its use in clinical settings. Some clinical safety concerns arise from editing activity in unintended cell types or tissues upon in vivo delivery (e.g., by adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors). Although tissue-specific promoters and serotypes with tissue tropisms can be used, suitably compact promoters are not always available for desired cell types, and AAV tissue tropism specificities are not absolute. To reinforce tissue-specific editing, we exploited anti-CRISPR proteins (Acrs) that have evolved as natural countermeasures against CRISPR immunity. To inhibit Cas9 in all ancillary tissues without compromising editing in the target tissue, we established a flexible platform in which an Acr transgene is repressed by endogenous, tissue-specific microRNAs (miRNAs). We demonstrate that miRNAs regulate the expression of an Acr transgene bearing miRNA-binding sites in its 3\u27-UTR and control subsequent genome editing outcomes in a cell-type specific manner. We also show that the strategy is applicable to multiple Cas9 orthologs and their respective anti-CRISPRs. Furthermore, we validate this approach in vivo by demonstrating that AAV9 delivery of Nme2Cas9, along with an AcrIIC3 Nme construct that is targeted for repression by liver-specific miR-122, allows editing in the liver while repressing editing in an unintended tissue (heart muscle) in adult mice. This strategy provides safeguards against off-tissue genome editing by confining Cas9 activity to selected cell types
