Electromagnetic radiation due to naked singularity formation in self-similar gravitational collapse
Dynamical evolution of test fields in background geometry with a naked
singularity is an important problem relevant to the Cauchy horizon instability
and the observational signatures different from black hole formation. In this
paper we study electromagnetic perturbations generated by a given current
distribution in collapsing matter under a spherically symmetric self-similar
background. Using the Green's function method, we construct the formula to
evaluate the outgoing energy flux observed at the future null infinity. The
contributions from "quasi-normal" modes of the self-similar system as well as
"high-frequency" waves are clarified. We find a characteristic power-law time
evolution of the outgoing energy flux which appears just before naked
singularity formation, and give the criteria as to whether or not the outgoing
energy flux diverges at the future Cauchy horizon.Comment: 20 pages, 7 figures, references added to match the published versio
Release of organic compounds from some Antarctic CI and CM chondrites by laboratory heating
Thermal release of organic compounds from three CI chondrites (Belgica (B)-7904,Yamato (Y)-82162,and Y-86720) and three CM chondrites (Y-74662,Y-791198,and Y-793321) was examined by DTA/TG-MS analysis. For identification of the compounds released, Y-791198 was also examined by DTA/TG-GC/MS analysis. The relative amounts of organic compounds released from these chondrites are, Y-74662≃Y-791198>Y-82162>Y-793321≃B-7094>Y-86720 The compounds released are aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons and N-, S-, and O-containing compounds. Of these, benzene and thiophene are the most abundant. Release patterns of some representative compounds were obtained along a programmed temperature profile from room temperature to 800℃. These patterns fall under one of two kinds; in one the release starts around 250℃ and continues to 700℃, and in the other release starts at 100℃ or 150℃ and ends at 300℃. The kinds and amounts of the organic compounds released are roughly related to the extent of the alteration and/or metamorphism of the chondrites as determined by mineralogical and petrographic studies
Machine Learning-Based Detection of Non-Axisymmetric Fast Neutrino Flavor Instabilities in Core-Collapse Supernovae
In dense neutrino environments like core-collapse supernovae (CCSNe) and
neutron star mergers (NSMs), neutrinos can undergo fast flavor conversions
(FFC) when their angular distribution of neutrino electron lepton number
(ELN) crosses zero along some directions. While previous studies have
demonstrated the detection of axisymmetric ELN crossings in these extreme
environments, non-axisymmetric crossings have remained elusive, mostly due to
the absence of models for their angular distributions. In this study, we
present a pioneering analysis of the detection of non-axisymmetric ELN
crossings using machine learning (ML) techniques. Our ML models are trained on
data from two CCSN simulations, one with rotation and one without, where
non-axisymmetric features in neutrino angular distributions play a crucial
role. We demonstrate that our ML models achieve detection accuracies exceeding
90\%. This is an important improvement, especially considering that a
significant portion of ELN crossings in these models eluded detection by
earlier methods.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figure
Domain Nucleation and Annihilation in Uniformly Magnetized State under Current Pulses in Narrow Ferromagnetic Wires
We investigate the current-driven magnetization dynamics in narrow Permalloy
wires by means of Lorentz microscopy and electron holography. Current pulses
are found to transform the magnetic structure in the uniformly magnetized state
below the Curie temperature. A variety of magnetic states including reversed
magnetic domains are randomly obtained in low probability. The dynamics of
vortices found in most of observed magnetic states seems to play a key role in
triggering the magnetization reversal.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures, 1 video, to appear in Japanese Journal of

On the Neutrino Distributions in Phase Space for the Rotating Core-collapse Supernova Simulated with a Boltzmann-neutrino-radiation-hydrodynamics Code
With the Boltzmann-radiation-hydrodynamics code, which we have developed to
solve numerically the Boltzmann equations for neutrino transfer, the Newtonian
hydrodynamics equations, and the Newtonian self-gravity simultaneously and
consistently, we simulate the collapse of a rotating core of the progenitor
with a zero-age-main-sequence mass of and a shelluler rotation
of at the center. We pay particular attention in this
paper to the neutrino distribution in phase space, which is affected by the
rotation. By solving the Boltzmann equations directly, we can assess the
rotation-induced distortion of the angular distribution in momentum space,
which gives rise to the rotational component of the neutrino flux. We compare
the Eddington tensors calculated both from the raw data and from the M1-closure
approximation. We demonstrate that the Eddington tensor is determined by
complicated interplays of the fluid velocity and the neutrino interactions and
that the M1-closure, which assumes that the Eddington factor is determined by
the flux factor, fails to fully capture this aspect, especially in the vicinity
of the shock. We find that the error in the Eddington factor reaches in our simulation. This is due not to the resolution but to the different
dependence of the Eddington and flux factors on the angular profile of the
neutrino distribution function, and hence modification to the closure relation
is needed.Comment: 24 pages, 23 figures, 0 explosion, published in Ap
