    Airline failure and distress prediction: a comparison of quantitative and qualitative models

    In this paper, an exploratory study of failure and distress prediction models is presented based on a qualitative survey among new-entrant airline managers and a quantitative data source containing financial and traffic data of new-entrant airlines. Using logistic regression, it became evident that qualitative variables are a viable source for model construction. They contribute to a deeper understanding of the underlying distress and failure process.     Management emphasis and performance in the airline industry: an exploratory multilevel analysis

    Carrying through decisions in organisations is inherently micro-level, while the aggregated performance implication of decisions is a macro-level phenomena. This paper determines through exploratory factor analysis, factors associated with airline performance using a two-level bottom-up hierarchical approach. The determinant factors are used to test, through regression analysis, the relationship across lower and higher level factors and between the higher level factors and performance (distress versus non-distress). The results showed that airlines having higher relative score on productivity and brand image were less likely to be under financial distress, while airlines having higher relative emphasis on market power were more likely to be under financial distress.Multilevel analysis Business performance Business distress Airlines Business success Airline strategy Airline performance

    Global carbon dioxide emissions scenarios for aviation derived from IPCC storylines: A meta-analysis

    This research summarises the aviation CO2 emissions studies that use the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change IS92 and Special Report on Emissions Scenarios storylines as GDP growth assumptions to estimate future global carbon dioxide emissions from the aviation sector. The inter-quartile mean and the first and third quartiles are calculated to enable researches studying climate change policies for aviation to use an average global baseline scenario with lower and upper boundaries. We also perform a simple meta-analysis to analyse the assumptions used to derive the baseline scenario and conclude, as expected, that change in revenue-tonne-kilometres and fuel-efficiency are the main drivers behind the baseline scenarios
