Operative complications and results of the "SPARC" procedure for stress urinary incontinence [Operativne komplikacije i ishod metode SPARC u lijeÄenju statiÄke inkontinencije mokraÄe]
The aim of this study was to determine the efficacy and operative complications of the suprapubic arc (SPARC) procedure in stress incontinent women with and without previous anti-incontinence surgery. One-hundred and twenty-one patients with stress urinary incontinence (SUI) were treated with SPARC for correction of urethral hypermobility (N = 65) and intrinsic sphincter deficiency (N = 56) between August 2002 and February 2007. The long-term surgical results, operative complications (bladder injury, retropubic hematoma, de novo urgency and urinary infection) and patients' satisfaction were assessed. The overall complication rate was 9.9% (12/121). The perioperative complication rate was 1.7% including 2 urinary bladder injuries. Significant difference in the overall complications rate was detected between women with and without previous surgery (23/45, 51.1% vs. 6/108, 5.5%, chi2 = 49.89, P < 0.001). The overall postoperative complication rate was 8.3% (10/121) including 4 de novo urgencies, 4 urinary infections and 2 retropubic hematomas. There were 3 patients with postoperative urinary retention managed conservatively, without voiding difficulties on control visits. The objective cure rate after the follow-up was 86.8% (105/121). In patients with SUI and without preceding vaginal operations SPARC is a good method with low incidence of perioperative complications, promising long-term results and high patient satisfaction

Some of the major constituents of strawberry tree are
flavonoids and phenolic acids that are responsible for some of the pharmacological
activities i.e. adstringent, antihypertensive, antidiarrheal and antibacterial.
Objective of this work was to determine flavonoid aglycones and
phenolic acids in strawberry tree leaves collected during 12 months of 2013
using RP-HPLC-DAD and assess antioxidant activity using ABTS stable
free radical. Antioxidant activity of strawberry tree leaves varied between 11% and 28%. The content of individual polyphenols was: chlorogenic acid
0.8 to 6.5 mg/g, caffeic acid 0.6ā1.0 mg/g, p-coumaric acid 0.2ā6.6 mg/g
and quercetin 0.5ā10.7 mg/g. The highest content of polyphenols was during
winter months. Compared to the thin-layer chromatography analysis we
have determined presence of additional phenolic acids (caffeic and p-coumaric)
and quercetin ā aglycone of quercitrin, isoquercitrin and hyperoside
The Role of Socio-Demographic Characteristics and Lifestyle of Consumers in Determinig Buying Tendency
This study was based on a three-dimensional conceptualization of the buying tendency stemming from cognitive and affective impulsivity and susceptibility to the situational factors of buying. The aim of the study was to examine the relationships of different dimensions of buying tendency to basic socio-demographic characteristics and lifestyles of consumers. The study was conducted using a survey on a sample of 194 respondents from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The obtained results indicate greater levels of cognitive and affective buying impulsivity in women compared to men, with no gender differences identified in the susceptibility to buying situational factors. Furthermore, significant effects were obtained by the level of total monthly family income of respondents in all dimensions of buying tendency, while the level of respondents\u27 monthly income had a significant effect only on cognitive impulsivity. Employment status and education level had no significant effect on the buying tendency.
Among the four studied consumersā lifestyles (innovative, family, social and leadership oriented), innovatively oriented lifestyle has the strongest correlation to all three dimensions of buying tendency. In other words, innovatively oriented subjects are more prone to impulsive buying and susceptible to buying situational factors. In addition to the innovative orientation lifestyle, impulsive buying was also associated with the leadership orientation, but to a lesser extent. Susceptibility to buying situational factors was associated with all lifestyle orientations, apart from the family orientation

The aim of this study was to determine the possible predictive value of various dosimetric parameters on the development of hypothyroidism (HT) in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) treated with (chemo)radiotherapy
Dose-volume derived nomogram as a reliable predictor of radiotherapy-induced hypothyroidism in head and neck cancer patients
Background
The aim of this study was to determine the possible predictive value of various dosimetric parameters on the development of hypothyroidism (HT) in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) treated with (chemo)radiotherapy.
-----
Patients and methods
This study included 156 patients with HNSCC who were treated with (chemo)radiotherapy in a primary or postoperative setting between August 2012 and September 2017. Dose-volume parameters as well as V10 toV70, D02 to D98, and the VS10 to VS70 were evaluated. The patientsā hormone status was regularly assessed during follow-up. A nomogram (score) was constructed, and the Kaplan-Maier curves and Log-Rank test were used to demonstrate the difference in incidence of HT between cut-off values of specific variables.
-----
Results
After a median follow-up of 23.0 (12.0ā38.5) months, 70 (44.9%) patients developed HT. In univariate analysis, VS65, Dmin, V50, and total thyroid volume (TTV) had the highest accuracy in predicting HT. In a multivariate model, HT was associated with lower TTV (OR 0.31, 95% CI 0.11ā0.87, P = 0.026) and Dmin (OR 9.83, 95% CI 1.89ā108.08, P = 0.042). Hypothyroidism risk score (HRS) was constructed as a regression equation and comprised TTV and Dmin. HRS had an AUC of 0.709 (95% CI 0.627ā0.791). HT occurred in 13 (20.0%) patients with a score 7.1.
-----
Conclusions
The dose volume parameters VS65, Dmin, V50, and TTV had the highest accuracy in predicting HT. The HRS may be a useful tool in detecting patients with high risk for radiation-induced hypothyroidism
7th International Scientific Conference on Kinesiology: Fundamental and applied kinesiology - steps forward : proceedings
It is our pleasure to greet you on behalf of the Faculty of Kinesiology, University of Zagreb. Quite a number of
significant anniversaries in this year are related to sport, physical education and kinesiology in Croatia. The most important
anniversary is the 55th birthday of the College of Physical Culture/Faculty of Physical Culture/Faculty of Kinesiology
establishment in 1959. However, the tradition of physical education teachersā education in Croatia is much longer than
that. Namely, in 1874, the Croatian Falcon (Hrvatski sokol) was founded and in 1894, first course for gymnastic teachers
was organised as the first higher education course in the field of kinesiology in Croatia. Along with these important
anniversaries, this year we are marking the 17th birthday of our Conference on kinesiology, dear Reader, and you are one
of the most important reasons why is this so. From the first Conference in Dubrovnik in 1997 up nowadays, many changes
in our science have occurred as well as in the practice of physical exercise and sports along with innumerable changes in
political and social dimensions of modern life. However, we are deeply convinced that one thing has remained unchanged;
that is the passion for investigation and knowledge acquisition, the need for new discoveries and love for kinesiology as
the main field of our research. Also, we are assured that our ideas about the conference as a meeting point of distinguished
scientists, leading researchers in different fields of our science and young investigators have become reality.
We expect discussions and exchange of ideas that should result, as they have before, in new research ideas, insights,
and research teams and projects the eventual outcome of which would be further advances in kinesiology and in cognate
and adjacent scientific areas. The Conference will work under the motto āFundamental and applied kinesiology - steps
forwardā in usual plenary and parallel sessions addressing ten comprehensive kinesiological topics: adaptation of human
organism to disuse and ageing; adapted physical activity and kinesitherapy; biology and medicine of sport and exercise;
biomechanics and motor control; physical education; kinesiological (sports) recreation; kinesiology of top-level sport;
management of sport; kinesiology and social sciences (sociology, psychology, history, philosophy) and kinesiology in
physical conditioning. Certain areas will be addressed at the Conference for the first time, like adaptation of human
organism to disuse and ageing. All the papers that have got positive reviews, performed by at least two respectable referees,
are published in these proceedings. The best papers, so recognized by the peer reviewers, will be published in the journal
Kinesiology supplement. Two significant satellite symposiums are going to be held during this year Conference under
the titles: University Sport and Health Kinesiology. Both symposia are aiming at provoking experts from these areas to
find solutions and answers to recent problems in these specific fields
From the very beginning, the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Fine Arts has been giving its high patronage to
the Conference, thus underpinning the recognition of kinesiology in the structure of different areas in science. We are
proud to have partners and cooperating institutions like Beijing Sports University (China), Faculty of Sport Studies
Masaryk University, Brno (the Czech Republic), Science and Research Centre, University of Primorska (Slovenia) and
Lithuanian Sports University. Also, our conference is supported by a number of important organisations in the field of
kinesiology such as: the European College of Sport Science (ECSS), International Association for Physical Education in
Higher Education (AIESEP), International Federation of Physical Education (FIEP), and International Network of Sport
and Health Sciences (INSHS).
This year the assembly of kinesiologists from 32 countries will discuss diverse aspects of a variety of kinesiological
issues presented in 220 papers and abstracts written by 514 authors. The Proceedings and Abstract Book is a reminder of
the research findings accomplished in the field of kinesiology, or sport sciences, or kinetics, or kinanthropology throughout
the past three years. The presented papers are a basis and a probable starting point for future findings and inferences since
they cover a wide range of anthropological (understood in the widest sense), methodological and didactic investigations
in the areas of physical education, competitive sport, kinesiological recreation, and kinesitherapy.
We wish to express exceptional gratitude to all the authors of papers, reviewers, conference participants, members
of the Organising and Programme Committee, Section Editors and technical support staff for their contributions, time
and effort inbuilt in quality of the 7th Conference on Kinesiology and its Proceedings.
Looking forward to meeting you again at the 8th International Conference on Kinesiology in 2017.
