    Double polarization experiments at intermediate energy

    At modern electron accelerators with highly polarized, intense, high duty factor beams double polarization coincidence experiments became feasible with good statistical accuracy. The strong potential towards the precise determination of small nucleon structure quantities is illustrated by two recent examples from MAMI. The measurement of GEnG_E^n in the quasifree reaction D(e⃗,e′n⃗)pD(\vec e, e'\vec n)p lead to a new parametrization of GEnG_E^n which is significantly above the previously preferred one from elastic e−De-D scattering. A p(e⃗,e′p⃗)π0p(\vec e, e'\vec p)\pi^0 experiment at the energy of the Δ\Delta resonance yields preliminary results for the longitudinal quadrupole mixing. Both experimental errors and model uncertainties are complementary to unpolarized measurements.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures, plenary talk given at PANIC'9

    P-cymenesulphonyl chloride : A bio-based activating group and protecting group for greener organic synthesis

    A bio-derived protecting/activating group has been synthesized by introducing a sulphonyl chloride group to the aromatic ring of p-cymene derived from citrus peel waste. The resulting p-cymenesulphonyl chloride was evaluated as an activating group by reacting with 1-octanol, 2-octanol, phenol and piperidine, and further reactions of the activated alcohols. The comparison to tosyl chloride demonstrates that the bio-based alternative can be effectively utilized as a direct replacement for the current fossil derived equivalent

    Pion-nucleus optical potential valid up to the DELTA-resonance region

    We present in this article an optical potential for the π\pi-nucleus interaction that can be used in various studies involving π\pi-nucleus channels. Based on earlier treatments of the low energy π\pi-nucleus optical potential, we have derived a potential expression applicable from threshold up to the Δ\Delta-resonance region. We extracted the impulse approximation form for this potential from the π−N\pi-N scattering amplitude and then added to it kinematical and physical corrections. The kinematic corrections arise from transforming the impulse approximation expression from the π−N\pi-N center of mass frame to the π\pi-nucleus center of mass frame, while the physical corrections arise mostly from the many-body nature of the π\pi-nucleus interaction. By taking advantage of the experimental progress in our knowledge of the π−N\pi-N process, we have updated earlier treatments with parameters calculated from state-of-the-art experimental measurements.Comment: 23 pages, 12 figures.
