The importance of fisheries sector in Indian economy is well reflected with its contribution in India’s Gross Domestic Product (1%), creation of gainful employment and livelihood support to more than 14 million people and input in total exports of the country (10%) (NFDB, 2019). The national umbrella scheme of ‘Blue Revolution’ for integrated development and management of the fisheries arestarted to reap the foreseen resource potential and possibilities in built in it (PIB, 2019). Owing to the Skill India initiatives it is very important and time relevant to impart knowledge about the different start-up options and motivating the youth population to be a job provider instead of holding the ageold name tag job seekers after their education

Farmer led innovations: Retrospect and prospects

Agricultural development in any country is innovation driven. At the end of the development process, innovation makes the difference in farmers’ adoption decision. Indian farmers have also been in the process of continuously improving available technologies and innovating new ideas for more efficient and cost-effective farming, which has resulted in numerous innovations over the generations. It helped not only to improve farming practices but also to ensure better livelihood options. Despite its relevance and importance, it has neither been documented nor recognized. Even if the documentation has been done, the Intellectual Property Rights on the innovations made by the farmers has often been ignored. The innovations have neither been properly institutionalized for their horizontal and vertical expansion nor properly disseminated. Though, initiatives by government and non-government bodies to identify and document the farmer led innovations have taken place in recent past but in a limited scale only. It is therefore necessary to provide sufficient and suitable institutional support to the farmers for the promotion of farmer led innovations and to document, validate and scale up of these innovations. The institutional arrangements for networking of stakeholders need to be devised to translate the challenges faced in the institutionalization of farmer led innovations into opportunities. The present article is an attempt to document the importance of farmer led innovations, role of institutions in promoting it, reasons for slow pace of spread and strategies for scaling up the farmer led innovations with special emphasis on Indian conditions

Without proper knowledge of applying statistical/econometric tools, software, and derivation of inferences from the same, it would not be possible to gather relevant interpretations of the investigation. Hence, the importance of well-designed data collection protocol, analysis, and interpretation cannot be underestimated. Such inferences form the basis of sound policy planning and resource management. Technology advancements and the development of analytical software have made the data analysis process less laborious. A basic understanding of the application of advanced analytical tools and their interpretation increases the productivity and efficiency of social science researchers engaged in agriculture/animal/fisheries science research. Hence the Winter School on Advanced Analytical Tools for Social Science Research is designed to enhance the analytical skills of social science researchers from NARES by allowing them to familiarize with advanced analytical procedures and their practical applications. Value Chain Dynamics of Freshwater Aquaculture: A Study from Peri-Urban Areas of National Capital Region, India

Fisheries and aquaculture are the critical sources of nutrition, livelihood, and income-making venture in many low-income and developing countries. In India, it acts as a major sector with huge export potential. Though the nation has created a significant market niche for fresh and processed fish products, the marketing sector is not exempted from intermediary people’s exploitation. In the present study, attempts were made to compare the cost of production and net income of fish growers and processors and map various channels of peri-urban areas. A significant difference was observed in the cost of production of fish growers and processors (t = 5.630, p < 0.05), whereas no significant difference was observed in terms of net income ((t = 1.453, p=.171). Three different marketing channels were identified among fish growers and fish processors. Producers’ share in consumers’ price was varied from 50.44 percent to 100 percent in different channels. The study further revealed that the marketed and marketable surplus availability of the produced fish (mean rank 11.25) is the primary element motivating the fish farmers to opt for value addition
