    Unconventional Superconducting Symmetry in a Checkerboard Antiferromagnet

    We use a renormalized mean field theory to study the Gutzwiller projected BCS states of the extended Hubbard model in the large UU limit, or the tt-tt'-JJ-JJ' model on a two-dimensional checkerboard lattice. At small t/tt'/t, the frustration due to the diagonal terms of tt' and JJ' does not alter the dx2y2d_{x^2-y^2}-wave pairing symmetry, and the negative (positive) t/tt'/t enhances (suppresses) the pairing order parameter. At large t/tt'/t, the ground state has an extended s-wave symmetry. At the intermediate t/tt'/t, the ground state is d+idd+id or d+isd+is-wave with time reversal symmetry broken.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figure

    Psychometric properties and measurement equivalence of the Multidimensional Fatigue Syndrome Inventory- Short Form (MFSI-SF) amongst breast cancer and lymphoma patients in Singapore.

    BackgroundCurrently, several fatigue measurement instruments are available to evaluate and measure cancer-related fatigue. Amongst them, Multidimensional Fatigue Syndrome Inventory-Short Form (MFSI-SF) is a self-reported instrument and a multidimensional scale that aims to capture the global, somatic, affective, cognitive and behavioural symptoms of fatigue. This study examines the psychometric properties and measurement equivalence of the English and Chinese versions of MFSI-SF in breast cancer and lymphoma patients in Singapore.MethodsPatients were recruited from National Cancer Centre Singapore. Validity, reliability and responsiveness of MFSI-SF were evaluated in this study. Convergent validity was evaluated by correlating total and subscales of MFSI-SF to known related constructs in EORTC QLQ-C30. Known group validity was assessed based on patients' cancer stage, pain, insomnia and depression symptoms. Reliability was evaluated by Cronbach's α. Responsiveness analyses were performed with patients who have undergone at least one cycle of chemotherapy. Multiple regression was used to compare the total and subscale scores of MSFI-SF between the two language versions.ResultsData from 246 (160 English and 86 Chinese version) breast cancer and lymphoma patients were included in the study. Moderate to high correlations were observed between correlated MFSI-SF subscales and EORTC QLQ-C30 domains (|r| = 0.524 to 0.774) except for a poor correlation (r = 0.394) observed between MFSI-SF vigour subscale and EORTC QLQ-C30 role functioning subscale. Total MFSI-SF scores could differentiate between patients with higher depression, pain and insomnia status. Internal consistency of MFSI-SF was also high (α = 0.749 to 0.944). Moderate correlation was observed between change in total MFSI-SF score and change in fatigue symptom scale score and global QoL score on EORTC QLQ-C30 (|r| = 0.478 and 0.404 respectively). Poor correlations were observed between change in scores of hypothesised subscales (|r| = 0.202 to 0.361) except for a moderate correlation between change in MFSI-SF emotional fatigue score and change in EORTC QLQ-C30 emotional functioning domain score. Measurement equivalence was established for all subscales and total MFSI-SF score except for the emotional and vigour subscales.ConclusionsThis study supports the use of MFSI-SF as a reasonably valid scale with good internal consistency for measuring fatigue levels in the Singapore cancer population

    Performance Analysis of NOMA-Based Land Mobile Satellite Networks

    Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) scheme, which has the ability to superpose information in the power domain and serve multiple users on the same time/frequency resource, is regarded as an effective solution to increase transmit rate and fairness. In this paper, we introduce the NOMA scheme in a downlink land mobile satellite (LMS) network and present a comprehensive performance analysis for the considered system. Specifically, we first obtain the power allocation coefficients by maximizing the sum rate while meeting the predefined target rates of each NOMA user. Then, we derive the theoretical expressions for the ergodic capacity and the energy efficiency of the considered system. Moreover, the outage probability (OP) and average symbol error rate performances of NOMA users are derived analytically. To gain further insights, we derive the asymptotic OP at the high signal-to-noise ratio regime to characterize the diversity orders and coding gains of NOMA users. Finally, simulation results are provided to validate the theoretical analysis as well as the superiority of employing the NOMA scheme in the LMS system, and show the impact of key parameters, such as fading configurations and user selection strategy on the performance of NOMA users

    Perceptions and Barriers of Survivorship Care in Asia: Perceptions From Asian Breast Cancer Survivors.

    PurposeWith the long-term goal to optimize post-treatment cancer care in Asia, we conducted a qualitative study to gather in-depth descriptions from multiethnic Asian breast cancer survivors on their perceptions and experiences of cancer survivorship and their perceived barriers to post-treatment follow-up.MethodsTwenty-four breast cancer survivors in Singapore participated in six structured focus group discussions. The focus group discussions were voice recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed by thematic analysis.ResultsBreast cancer survivors were unfamiliar with and disliked the term "survivorship," because it implies that survivors had undergone hardship during their treatment. Cognitive impairment and peripheral neuropathy were physical symptoms that bothered survivors the most, and many indicated that they experienced emotional distress during survivorship, for which they turned to religion and peers as coping strategies. Survivors indicated lack of consultation time and fear of unplanned hospitalization as main barriers to optimal survivorship care. Furthermore, survivors indicated that they preferred receipt of survivorship care at the specialty cancer center.ConclusionBudding survivorship programs in Asia must take survivor perspectives into consideration to ensure that survivorship care is fully optimized within the community

    Immune checkpoint inhibitor– and phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase inhibitor–related diabetes induced by antineoplastic drugs: two case reports and a literature review

    Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)- and phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase inhibitor (PI3Ki)-related diabetes mellitus are common side effects of anti-tumor drug use that present mainly as hyperglycemia. Here, we present two case reports of diabetes mellitus caused by the use of tremelimumab and apalutamide, respectively, in cancer treatment, and a comprehensive, comparative review of the literature on these forms of diabetes. Case 1 presented with diabetic ketoacidosis and was diagnosed with ICI-related diabetes mellitus and treated with insulin. Case 2 was diagnosed with PI3Ki-related diabetes mellitus, and her blood glucose level returned to normal with the use of metformin and dapagliflozin. We systematically searched the PubMed database for articles on ICI- and PI3Ki-related diabetes mellitus and characterized the differences in clinical features and treatment between these two forms of diabetes

    REST: A Toolkit for Resting-State Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging Data Processing

    Resting-state fMRI (RS-fMRI) has been drawing more and more attention in recent years. However, a publicly available, systematically integrated and easy-to-use tool for RS-fMRI data processing is still lacking. We developed a toolkit for the analysis of RS-fMRI data, namely the RESting-state fMRI data analysis Toolkit (REST). REST was developed in MATLAB with graphical user interface (GUI). After data preprocessing with SPM or AFNI, a few analytic methods can be performed in REST, including functional connectivity analysis based on linear correlation, regional homogeneity, amplitude of low frequency fluctuation (ALFF), and fractional ALFF. A few additional functions were implemented in REST, including a DICOM sorter, linear trend removal, bandpass filtering, time course extraction, regression of covariates, image calculator, statistical analysis, and slice viewer (for result visualization, multiple comparison correction, etc.). REST is an open-source package and is freely available at http://www.restfmri.net
