    Multiattribute prediction of terrain stability above underground mining operations

    This paper is dedicated to the problem of stability prediction of the terrain above underground mining operations. After the initial introduction to the problem, then the short analysis of the model approaches used to solve it, and giving the algorithm for rock massif stability prediction, we describe the concept of the multiattirbute terrain stability prediction method. The application of the multiattribute prediction method for stability of the terrain above underground mining operations is presented on the example of the Brown Coal Mine Aleksinac. The used method is original, essentially different from the other methods of mathematical modeling, because its prognosis of the rock massif stability under the influence of underground mining operations is based on the balance of the stability indicators. Our comparative analysis of the results obtained by multiattribute prediction and the data obtained by measurements of real deformations and terrain settling in multiple mines shows high mutual correlation, with an average deviation of less than ±10%.     PRELIMINARY NOTES ON THE SPIDER FAUNA (ARACHNIDA, ARANEAE) OF THE SPECIAL NATURE RESERVE ZASAVICA

    Based on literature data and preliminary investigations a total of 104 spider species can be recorded from the Special Nature Reserve (SNR) Zasavica. Five species, Cyclosa oculata (Walckenaer, 1802), Mendoza canestrinii (Ninni, 1868), Philodromus albidus Kulczynski, 1911, Heriaeus graminicola (Doleschall, 1852) and Sibianor aurocinctus (Ohlert, 1865), were not recorded in Serbia until the present study. The rediscovery of the species Dolomedes plantarius (Clerck, 1757), Cresmatoneta mutinensis (Canestrini, 1868), Hypsosinga heri (Hahn, 1831) and Argyroneta aquatica (Clerck, 1757) represents an important result that could possibly be used as a guideline for future faunistic and ecological studies with the purpose of successful protection and conservation measures in the SNR Zasavic

    SPIDERS (ARANEAE) OF THE DELIBLATO SANDS (SERBIA)

    The Special Nature Reserve “Deliblato Sands” in Serbia is the largest European continental sand area situated between the Danube River and western Carpathian slopes. Forestation, agriculture and fire are the main threats to this landscape. While plants and vertebrates are well known in this area, spiders were researched for the first time. Collecting with pitfall traps, sweep nets and beating in four different habitat types during a whole vegetation period yielded 1120 adult specimens and 96 species. Eight species represent first records for the Serbian fauna: Atypus muralis Bertkau, 1890, Gnaphosa muscorum (L. Koch, 1866), Zelotes segrex (Simon, 1878), Mecopisthes peusi Wunderlich, 1992, Oxyopes heterophthalmus (Latreille, 1804), Heliophanus lineiventris Simon, 1868, Simitidion simile (C. L. Koch, 1836) and Xysticus mongolicus Schenkel, 1963. In our study, six of these species were restricted to the open sandy habitat, highlighting the special importance of this unique habitat type

    Ultimate pH, colour characteristics and proximate and mineral composition of edible organs, glands and kidney fat from Saanen goat male kids

    Ultimate pH value and instrumental colour (CIEL*a*b* values) characteristics, proximate (moisture, protein, total fat and total ash) and mineral composition (K, P, Na, Mg, Ca, Zn, Fe, Cu, Ni and Mn) were determined in 10 (heart, tongue, lungs, spleen, liver, kidney, brain, testicle, thymus and kidney fat) edible by-products of Saanen goat male kids. Many significant or numerical differences were found in the mean values of quality characteristics among the edible by-products. Among edible organs and glands, liver had the lowest surface CIEL* value (darkest colour), and the highest levels of protein, Zn, Cu and Mn. Furthermore, the highest pH(24h), total ash, K, P and Mg levels were determined in the thymus. The testicle had the highest moisture, Ca and Ni levels. The spleen had the lowest fresh cut cross-section CIEL* value (darkest colour), and the highest Fe level. The highest total fat content and Na level were determined in the brain and kidney, respectively. Among all the edible by-products, kidney fat had the highest pH(24h), surface CIEL* value (lightest colour) and total fat content, and the lowest moisture, protein, total ash, K, P, Na, Mg, Ca, Zn, Fe, Cu, Ni and Mn levels

    Subcritical water extraction as an environmentally-friendly technique to recover bioactive compounds from traditional Serbian medicinal plants

    Subcritical water extraction (SWE) has become a popular green extraction technique for the isolation of different classes of compounds from natural matrices. Low price, safety and green character of water, good yields of target compounds and reduced energy consumption, make this technique favorable for potential industrial applications. The purpose of this study was to evaluate antioxidant, antimicrobial and cytotoxic activity of four medicinal plants traditionally used in folk medicine of Serbia. Black mulberry (Morus nigra L.), wall germander (Teucrium chamaedrys L.), wild geranium (Geranium macrorrhizum L.) and comfrey (Symphytum officinale L.) were extracted by subcritical water at different temperatures. Antioxidant activity of the extracts was defined by conventional spectrophotometric methods, such as the total phenolic content (TPC), DPPH-radical scavenging activity (DPPH-RSA), ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) assessed by a DNA-based sensor. Additionally, the main phenolic compounds contributing to the antioxidant activity of the produced extracts were also identified and quantified by high performance liquid chromatography with diode array detection (HPLC-DAD). Antimicrobial properties of extracts were evaluated against eight microbial strains.     Ab Initio Study of the Electronic, Vibrational, and Mechanical Properties of the Magnesium Diboride Monolayer

    Magnesium diboride gained significant interest in the materials science community after the discovery of its superconductivity, with an unusually high critical temperature of 39 K. Many aspects of the electronic properties and superconductivity of bulk MgB 2 and thin sheets of MgB 2 have been determined; however, a single layer of MgB 2 has not yet been fully theoretically investigated. Here, we present a detailed study of the structural, electronic, vibrational, and elastic properties of monolayer MgB 2 , based on ab initio methods. First-principles calculations reveal the importance of reduction of dimensionality on the properties of MgB 2 and thoroughly describe the properties of this novel 2D material. The presence of a negative Poisson ratio, higher density of states at the Fermi level, and a good dynamic stability under strain make the MgB 2 monolayer a prominent material, both for fundamental research and application studies
