But it also means aligning our trade laws to European legislation profile, with priority to Community law and assimilation regulatory provisions of international conventions ratified across Romania as part of national law rules. Transnational corporations, which operate in more than one country or nation at a time, have become some of the most powerful economic and political entities in the world today. The United Nations has justly described these corporations as “the productive core of the globalizing world economy.globalization, transnational corporations, global village, ecommerce

    Commercial Facilities and Urban Regeneration

The paper deals with a model for assessing disparities in the development of commercial facilities. The term “commercial facilities” helps one perceive distribution not only as an economic activity in itself but also as an urban infrastructure and as a component of an urban area that forms a town, area which should be designed in accordance with the new concepts promoted by the European Union: integrated town planning, and urban regeneration. The paper consists of three parts: the first part briefly presents the importance of town development from the perspective of the theory of urban area modelling; the second part deals with the functional integration of commercial facilities into urban regeneration projects; the third part suggests a model for assessing regional disparities in the development of commercial facilities, which – using the “point method” – can be applied so that it meets the requirement of quantifying the equipment levels reached and make space comparisons. This model is based on ten indicators relevant to the studied field, as taken from Statistical Yearbook of Romania. For Romania, it is all the more necessary to define programmes for the territorial development of commercial facilities as, at present, major disparities have been caused by the disequilibrium resulted from the uncontrolled expansion of the great multinational distribution chains, which equally hindered the small independent trade and the network of shops specific to the main/historical centres of towns. The outcome of our research confirms the need that local communities should think and act consistently with the new policy of sustainable development of towns, promoted within the European Union, aimed at observing the basic principles of the territory planning policy: restructuring and strengthening the structurally deficient areas.integrated town planning, urban regeneration, commercial town planning, regional disparities, point method, sustainable development

Acoustic Monitoring of Emerald Ash Borer Larvae in Ash Tree Saplings

    Get PDF
The aim of this project is to develop an acoustic sensor to monitor the presence and activity of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) larvae in ash tree saplings. Specifically, this device will be used on lingering ash tree saplings, a species proven to resist damage from these insects. Currently, researchers guess when to sample the sapling, however the finished device will detect the timeframe that an EAB larva dies in a lingering ash sapling. This information allows researchers to know when to graft samples of the inner bark tissue of that sapling to reveal phenotypic information about the lingering ash sapling

    Savings in Central Europe

The monetary system is today essential for any economy. The most important components of themonetary system are: money, payment arrangements as well as institutions supporting monetaryflows. The money sign or money is, in principle, a claim, transmissible, arbitrary, with a forced courseand whose essential function is to be able to be exchanged for a certain amount of goods andservices. In society, there are also a number of factors, predominantly of a subjective nature, which candetermine and cause individuals to diminish their consumption expenditures. This is about savingspurpose(saving becomes an end in itself, being considered a means of achieving certain goals) aswell as certain "forced" economies (individuals do not find the desired consumer goods or thedesired quantities and consequently do not have the what they spend their income)

Prognostic model to predict postoperative acute kidney injury in patients undergoing major gastrointestinal surgery based on a national prospective observational cohort study.

Background: Acute illness, existing co-morbidities and surgical stress response can all contribute to postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients undergoing major gastrointestinal surgery. The aim of this study was prospectively to develop a pragmatic prognostic model to stratify patients according to risk of developing AKI after major gastrointestinal surgery. Methods: This prospective multicentre cohort study included consecutive adults undergoing elective or emergency gastrointestinal resection, liver resection or stoma reversal in 2-week blocks over a continuous 3-month period. The primary outcome was the rate of AKI within 7 days of surgery. Bootstrap stability was used to select clinically plausible risk factors into the model. Internal model validation was carried out by bootstrap validation. Results: A total of 4544 patients were included across 173 centres in the UK and Ireland. The overall rate of AKI was 14·2 per cent (646 of 4544) and the 30-day mortality rate was 1·8 per cent (84 of 4544). Stage 1 AKI was significantly associated with 30-day mortality (unadjusted odds ratio 7·61, 95 per cent c.i. 4·49 to 12·90; P < 0·001), with increasing odds of death with each AKI stage. Six variables were selected for inclusion in the prognostic model: age, sex, ASA grade, preoperative estimated glomerular filtration rate, planned open surgery and preoperative use of either an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor or an angiotensin receptor blocker. Internal validation demonstrated good model discrimination (c-statistic 0·65). Discussion: Following major gastrointestinal surgery, AKI occurred in one in seven patients. This preoperative prognostic model identified patients at high risk of postoperative AKI. Validation in an independent data set is required to ensure generalizability

Each analyzed variable influenced diversity in the workplace from a significant level (3.33 for motivation) to a high level (4.00 for innovation/creativity and 4.00 for leadership, and 3.71 for social responsibility), showing a genuine interest in Romanian companies supporting diversity in the workplace

Starting from the analysis we have made on the basis of the archives documents of the collection available at the Police Office of Craiova city, our paper creates a radiography of the leftist extremism manifested in Romania in the interwar period. Therefore, the orders, the circulars, the instructions, the strictly secret and confidential informing notes issued by the Police Office of Craiova and by the police organizations under its jurisdictional authority, throw even more light on the activity carried out by the Comitern and by its branch in Romania, the Romanian Communist Party, regarding not only the liquidation of Romania’s democratic regime and the setting up of the proletariat’s dictatorship, but also regarding the Soviet revisionism, which was claiming, throughout that period, the urgent separation of Bessarabia, and not only, from the Romanian state

    No full text

If for classical economy the ability to compete - competitiveness- depends largely on the quantity or the amount of production factors, at the present, has gained importance the efficiency of their use. The idea of making this article appeared both from the necessity of a systematic research to approach the Romanian competitive environment and the desire to stoop to this important conference theme. We can certainly say that the actual business environment is characterized by a particularly dynamic due to changes that occur within it, especially under the impact of technical and scientific revolution which brought to the fore the knowledge as an essential element of achieving a high competitiveness. It is intended that the proposed theme of this article to have an economic importance for the actual information and adequacy of the current economy in Romania
