About possible contribution of intrinsic charm component to inclusive spectra of charmed mesons
We calculate differential energy spectra (-distributions) of charmed
particles produced in proton-nucleus collisions, assuming the existence of
intrinsic heavy quark components in the proton wave function. For the
calculation, the recently proposed factorization scheme is used, based on the
Color Glass Condensate theory and specially suited for predictions of a
production of particles with large rapidities. It is argued that the intrinsic
charm component can, if it exists, dominate in a sum of two components,
intrinsic + extrinsic, of the inclusive spectrum of charmed particles produced
in proton-nucleus collisions at high energies, in the region of medium ,
, and can give noticeable contribution to atmospheric fluxes
of prompt muons and neutrinos.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures. Version published in J. Phys. G
Electrical transport properties of CuS single crystals
Electrical resistivity, transverse magnetoresistance and thermoelectric power measurements were performed on CuS high quality single crystals in the range 1.2-300 K and under fields of up to 16 T. The zero field resistivity data are well described below 55 K by a quasi-2D model, consistent with a carrier confinement at lower temperatures, before the transition to the superconducting state. The transverse magnetoresistance develops mainly below 30 K and attains values as large as 470% for a 16 T field at 5 K, this behaviour being ascribed to a band effect mechanism, with a possible magnetic field induced DOS change at the Fermi level. The transverse magnetoresistance shows no signs of saturation, following a power law with field Delta rho/rho(0) proportional to H(1.4), suggesting the existence of open orbits for carriers at the Fermi surface. The thermoelectric power shows an unusual temperature dependence, probably as a result of the complex band structure of CuS

Magnetic Reversal Time in Open Long Range Systems
Topological phase space disconnection has been recently found to be a general
phenomenon in isolated anisotropic spin systems. It sets a general framework to
understand the emergence of ferromagnetism in finite magnetic systems starting
from microscopic models without phenomenological on-site barriers. Here we
study its relevance for finite systems with long range interacting potential in
contact with a thermal bath. We show that, even in this case, the induced
magnetic reversal time is exponentially large in the number of spins, thus
determining {\it stable} (to any experimental observation time) ferromagnetic
behavior. Moreover, the explicit temperature dependence of the magnetic
reversal time obtained from the microcanonical results, is found to be in good
agreement with numerical simulations. Also, a simple and suggestive expression,
indicating the Topological Energy Threshold at which the disconnection occurs,
as a real energy barrier for many body systems, is obtained analytically for
low temperature
