Ein zentrales Problem sieht Katrin Fischer in der Teleologie, deren Thematisierung auf der Ebene der erzählten Welt sie mit Goethes bekannter ablehnender Einstellung zur Teleologie kontrastiert. Sie bereitet so ihre Überlegungen im dritten Kapitel vor, in dem sie die Frage nach der Teleologie in Beziehung setzt zum zeitgenössischen Diskurs "Bestimmung des Menschen" und Goethes Problemformulierung im Wilhelm Meister nun als komplexe Stellungnahme deuten kann. Im Zentrum ihrer Überlegungen steht dabei die Überlegung, daß der Roman nicht nur ein Bildungskonzept formuliert, sondern bereits eine Auseinandersetzung mit Folgeproblemen dieses Konzepts darstellt. Sie ist besonders darum bemüht, die Thematisierung des Bildungsproblems auf der Figurenebene, auf der Erzählerebene und symbolisch formuliert auf der Ebene der Handlung deutlich zu unterscheiden und in eine gemeinsame Deutung zu integrieren. Die beiden Abschlußkapitel gehen auf zwei besondere Probleme ein: das Ende und das Bezugsproblem. Das Finale, das mit seiner Folge von Zufällen und plötzlichen Wendungen den bisherigen Gang der Dinge sehr schnell zu einem glücklichen Ende bringt, scheint das sonst so deutlich formulierte Bildungskonzept zu negieren. Katrin Fischer sieht hierin den Versuch, durch das Einbeziehen des Zufalls ein wesentliches Element des Bildungsprozesses zu gestalten. Alle Aspekte, die mit der Turmgesellschaft verknüpft sind - die Kritik am Schicksalsglauben, Bildungskonzepte und die Bedeutung von Bildung, Liebesglück, und auch die zufällige Handlungsfügung im Verhältnis zu rationalen Methoden der Lebensführung – lassen sich als Lösungen für das Bezugsproblem lesen, der Frage nach dem Gelingen des Lebens im Kontext der Frage nach der Bestimmung des Menschen sehen

How does the local wind field control the aerosol distribution in coastal Dronning Maud Land?

Atmospheric circulation patterns and chemical concentrations in firn cores are highly related to each other. Atmospheric winds transport aerosols like sea salt and mineral dust over the globe and redistribute them. Because of this, it is possible to reconstruct atmospheric circulation bringing aerosol to Antarctica by analyzing chemical impurities in firn and ice. With these analyses, the gap caused by sparse atmospheric measurements can be filled and this knowledge can then be used to improve the understanding of local and global circulation patterns.Due to a very high accumulation rate (~600 kg/m²*a), coastal Dronning Maud Land (CDML) is a perfect site to conduct these studies.Here, the upper 6m of two firn cores drilled on Halvfaryggen and Sörasen (covering the time interval from 2002- 2007) were analyzed on ionic concentrations. This data was then contrasted to measurements from the air chemistry laboratories at Neumayer (NM) and Kohnenstation (KS), and synoptic measurements from automatic weather stations (distributed in CDML and at NM).The analyses show very different results: Sea salt ions (e.g. Na+) are higher correlated to ions measured in aerosol samples at the air chemistry laboratory at KS than to the one located at NM. In contrast, ions representing mineral dust (e.g. nss-Ca2+) only have a weak correlation over the whole area and time period. Accordingly, the deposition of aerosol is highly dependent on its origin and the topography in coastal Antarctica suggesting different transport pathways for sea level and higher altitude sites

The Effect of Trust and its Antecedents on Robot Acceptance

As social and socially assistive robots are becoming more prevalent in our society, it is beneficial to understand how people form first impressions of them and eventually come to trust and accept them. This paper describes an Amazon Mechanical Turk study (n = 239) that investigated trust and its antecedents trustworthiness and first impressions. Participants evaluated the social robot Pepper's warmth and competence as well as trustworthiness characteristics ability, benevolence and integrity followed by their trust in and intention to use the robot. Mediation analyses assessed to what degree participants' first impressions affected their willingness to trust and use it. Known constructs from user acceptance and trust research were introduced to explain the pathways in which one perception predicted the next. Robot Vulnerability and the Elicitation of User Empathy

This paper describes a between-subjects Amazon Mechanical Turk study (n = 220) that investigated how a robot’s affective narrative influences its ability to elicit empathy in human observers. We first conducted a pilot study to develop and validate the robot’s affective narratives. Then, in the full study, the robot used one of three different affective narrative strategies (funny, sad, neutral) while becoming less functional at its shopping task over the course of the interaction. As the functionality of the robot degraded, participants were repeatedly asked if they were willing to help the robot. The results showed that conveying a sad narrative significantly influenced the participants’ willingness to help the robot throughout the interaction and determined whether participants felt empathetic toward the robot throughout the interaction. Furthermore, a higher amount of past experience with robots also increased the participants’ willingness to help the robot. This work suggests that affective narratives can be useful in short-term interactions that benefit from emotional connections between humans and robot

A value management approach to the project development of public estate as life cycle PPP

Die Arbeit befasst sich mit Anreiz-, Kontroll- und Steuerungsmechanismen bei PPP-Projekten und gibt konkrete Empfehlungen für die Gestaltung des Planungsprozesses sowie der Outputspezifikationen und Vergütungsmechanismen in PPP-Verträgen. Dabei wird die grundsätzliche Wirkungsweise des in Ansätzen in Literatur und Praxis bereits vorhandenen Instrumentariums zur Entwicklung, Leistungsüberwachung und strategischen Steuerung von PPP-Projekten unter Verwendung der Neuen Institutionenökonomie wissenschaftlich untersucht. Im Ergebnis entsteht der „Value- Management-Ansatz“, in dem die wesentlichen technischen, funktionalen und transaktionsspezifischen Werttreiber zusammengeführt und verknüpft werden. Auf Basis der theoretischen Erkenntnisse sowie untersuchter Fallstudien im Verwaltungs-, Schul- und Krankenhausbereich im In- und Ausland wird der Value-Management-Ansatz weiterentwickelt und vervollständigt.The analysis provides insights into the current application of incentive, monitoring and controlling mechanisms in PPP projects. A different planning process as well as model output specifications and effective payment mechanism for PPP contracts are discussed. The Theory of New Institutional Economics gives insight into the functioning of the different monitoring instruments and controlling mechanisms in PPP projects. As a result, a Value Management Approach for PPP projects is proposed which brings together technical, functional and transactional value drivers. A case study of PPP projects in the administration, education and health sector is used to identify how these different contract mechanisms are used in practice. From that, conclusions were drawn to further develop the Value Management Approach
