Wilhem His Jr (1863-1934), a szív pitvarait és kamráit összekötő anatómiai nyaláb (atrioventricularis fasciculus; His-köteg) felfedezője és a találmány fejlődéstörténete = Wilhelm His Jr (1863-1934), discoverer of the heart muscle bundle which unites the atrial and ventricular myocardium (fasciculus atrioventricularis; bundle of His). The evolution of the invention
A humán anulus fibrosus cordis (central fibrous body; „cardiac skeleton”) nagy mennyiségű kollagén rostot tartalmazó, viszonylag kemény kötőszöveti lemez, amely fiziológiás körülmények között mind anatómiailag, mind elektromosan elválasztja, hermetikusan elszigeteli egymástól a szív pitvarait és kamráit (22, 59). Ezenfelül körül öleli és erősíti a számottevő mechanikai igénybevételnek kitett atrioventricularis (mitralis és tricuspidalis) billentyűk, valamint a szívkamrákból kiinduló nagy verőerek (aorta, arteria pulmonalis) szájadékait. Az anulus fibrosus nyugodtan nevezhető a szív „(csont)vázának”,, hiszen a szervanatómai/strukturális stabilitásának egyi legfőbb letéteményese (22). Az emberénél sokkal nagyobb szívvel bíró emlősállatok (mint pl. a nagy kérődzők: szarvasmarha, birka, kecske, bivaly, teve, bölény, antilopfélék, etc.) anulus fibrosusában, állatfajonként eltérő mennyiségben és arányban, porc- és csontszövet is föllelhető („os cordis”; 22)..
Jan Evangelista Purkinje (1797-1869)
Az elmúlt években összefoglaltuk az elektrokardiográfia (EKG), a ritmusos szívműködést szavatoló sinus-(Keith-Flack) csomó, a pitvarremegés, a pitvarlebegés, a Wolff-Parkinson White-(WPW)-szindróma, valamint a szív pitvarait a kamrákkal elektroanatómiailag összekötő atriofascicularis nyaláb (His-köteg) orvostörténeti vonatkozásait (3, 10-15, 41)). Nyomatékosítottuk, hogy a régóta fennálló hiedelem, miszerint a Nobel-díjas holland Willem Einthoven (1860-1927) az első humán EKG-t 1903-ban egy német folyóiratban (Pflügers Arch ges Physiol) publikálta, téves. A legelső, mai digitális regisztrátumokkal elektromorfológiailag (a P-, QRS-, T- és U-hullámok vizualizálása tekintetében) egyenértékű bipoláris végtagi EKG-t Einthoven (a tőle 1901-ben konstruált húros galvanométerrel) egy Leidenben kis példányszámban (300) hollandul közzétett (Rosenstein belgyógyász professzor nyugállományba vonulásának tiszteletére összeállított) emlékkönyvben mutatta be (3, 15). A jelen munka célja a polihisztor, poliglott, átlagon felülemelkedő, rendkívüli tudományos teljesítményre képes anatómus, hisztológus, élettanász, filozófus, anyanyelv-esztéta és szláv/cseh patrióta Jan Evangelista Purkinje (1787-1869; 1. ábra) káprázatos felfedezéseinek, briliáns életpályájának tömör bemutatása
Distractive driver behaviour detection with spiked neural networks
Spiking neural networks are biologically plausible neural networks, capable of utilizing the concept of time throughout their simulations. They offer unique opportunities for the automotive industry because once they are deployed they require lower computational power and thus have decreased power consumption compared to other artificial neural networks. Theoretically, spiking neural network models can be just as powerful as the current state-of-the-art models, but in practice the technology is not matured enough to over-perform standard neural networks in terms of accuracy.
The thesis examines a possible application of spiking neural networks to a real-life image classification problem, distractive drive behaviour detection. Detecting the distractive behaviours of drivers could prevent many accidents, thus saving lives. As the automotive industry moves towards even more automation to increase driving safety the need for low-power neural networks will significantly increase in the near future
Heavy Metal Balance in a Communal Wastewater Treatment Plant
Heavy metal removal from a municipal wastewater treatment plant was
evaluated in the given study. The aim of the work was to find water or
sludge streams in the technology that could be treated separately for heavy
metal removal to maximise the efficiency of the entire treatment. The
results proved that in the plant studied 70–80% of the metal content was
discharged. Only 5–20% was retained in the digested sludge. A small
percentage of the metal content of the influent could only be measured in
the primary and secondary sludges. Otherwise, there were very similar
metal concentrations in these sludge streams. The reject water exhibited
an inconsiderable level of metal recycling in the technology, no more than
2–3% of the influent load. Some 2–10% of the heavy metal content of the
inlet was removed from the sand trap. We did not find the separate heavy
metal removal from the sludge streams efficient as most of the heavy metal
load finally was discharged from the treatment plant with the treated
effluent into the recipient
Biological Purification of Chemically Pre-Treated Dairy Wastewater Before Discharge into a Municipal Sewage Systems
Dairy production is one of the most inefficient processes with respect to
water usage in the food industry. It was estimated that the production of a
litre of milk creates three to four litres of wastewater. Dairy wastewater
contains a high amount of dissolved and suspended solids. Moreover, it
contains high concentrations of fat, protein, and carbohydrate.
Consequently, the dairy wastewater content of organic compounds is high
and so is its chemical oxygen demand. The majority of organic compounds
are biodegradable with a high biological and chemical oxygen demand
ratio. In this work, we examined the biological purification of physico-
chemically pretreated wastewater from a Hungarian milk-processing
factory before it was discharged into the public sewage system. The
chemical oxygen demand of the pre-treated wastewater ranged from 500
to 2500 mg dm-3. We found that it was possible to achieve efficient
organic material removal from nutrient-poor wastewater without nutrient
dosage contrary to the literature. The activated sludge system manifested
efficient organic material removal that required a smaller biological volume.
Experiments with biofilms have shown that a thicker biofilm needs more
dissolved oxygen, which dictates oxygen input levels to be sufficient for
creating an aerobic environment
The extent and cost of corruption in transport infrastructure. New evidence from Europe
Transport infrastructure provision from roads to waterways involves large amounts of public funds in very complex projects. It is hardly a surprise that all across Europe, but especially in high corruption risk countries, it is a primary target of corrupt elites. This article provides a state-of-the-art review of the literature on the cost of corruption and estimates the level of corruption risks and associated costs in European infrastructure development and maintenance in 2009-2014 using novel data on over 40,000 government contracts. Two forms of corruption costs are investigated in the empirical section: 1) distorting spending structure and project design, and 2) inflating prices. Findings indicate that corruption steers infrastructure spending towards high value as opposed to small value investment projects. It also inflates prices by 30-35% on average with largest excesses in high corruption risk regions. Contrary to perceptions, corruption risks in infrastructure are decoupled to a considerable extent from the national corruption environment. Source data and risk scores are made downloadable at digiwhist.eu/resources/data
Macroeconomic assessment of possible Green Recovery scenarios in Visegrad countries
The article discusses how and why Green Recovery could be beneficial for the Visegrad countries based on
a modelling exercise using the E3ME macroeconometric model. Green Recovery is defined as including
policies in recovery plans that not only target economic recovery, but also contribute to environmental
targets. The paper proposes that a Green Recovery could be valuable and suitable for the region
contributing to both restoring employment and boosting economic activity as well as reaching climate
goals. This is tested through a macroeconomic simulation, using the E3ME model. E3ME is built on PostKeynesian economic theory and on econometric estimations of macroeconomic relationships. The results
of the analysis focus on three dimensions: (1) social – employment, (2) environmental – level of CO2
emissions and (3) economic activity – gross domestic product (GDP). Outcomes indicate that a green
recovery can shorten the time needed for employment and economic recovery as well as contributes to CO2
emission reductions. In Hungary, Czechia and Poland, the impact persists into the long-term; however, the
paper also concludes that countries with high reliance on coal (e.g. Poland) could return to coal in the long
term if no further policies are introduced
