The rank of a hypergeometric system

The holonomic rank of the A-hypergeometric system M_A(\beta) is the degree of the toric ideal I_A for generic parameters; in general, this is only a lower bound. To the semigroup ring of A we attach the ranking arrangement and use this algebraic invariant and the exceptional arrangement of nongeneric parameters to construct a combinatorial formula for the rank jump of M_A(\beta). As consequences, we obtain a refinement of the stratification of the exceptional arrangement by the rank of M_A(\beta) and show that the Zariski closure of each of its strata is a union of translates of linear subspaces of the parameter space. These results hold for generalized A-hypergeometric systems as well, where the semigroup ring of A is replaced by a nontrivial weakly toric module M contained in \CC[\ZZ A]. We also provide a direct proof of the result of M. Saito and W. Traves regarding the isomorphism classes of M_A(\beta).Comment: 32 pages. To appear in Compositio Mathematica. Kata Kunci : Partisipasi Politik, Mahasiswa, Pemilu 2019  ABSTRACT                The existence of Buol students who are members of the Indonesian Buol Student Association (PPMIB) in Gorontalo totaled 152 people with a composition of 69 men and 83 women. In exercising the right to vote only around 57% participated in the 2019 elections in Buol District, while around 43% did not exercise their right to vote. This paper aims to look at the political participation of Buol students in exercising political rights as well as the factors that influence political participation in using political rights. This paper uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. The results showed that, overall, the Buol students in Gorontalo had the desire to participate in the 2019 elections, but aspects of transportation costs were an obstacle for students to channel their political rights. On the other hand there are around 57% of students who get transportation accommodations through political parties and legislative candidates. As for the factors that drive the political participation of Buol students in providing political rights is the consideration of candidates, mobilization factors and principles or kinship through community groups (PPMIB) in Gorontalo. Keywords: Political Participation, Students, 2019 Elections[1] Sumber : Sekretariat PPMIB di Gorontalo tahun 201

Community College and University Interprofessional Collaboration: Student Centered Partnership Between Nutrition and Dental Hygiene Faculty

    Get PDF
Interprofessional education (IPE) is critical in today’s educational and healthcare arenas. This article describes the initial design, implementation, and evaluation of a Community College/ University IPE collaboration that enabled dental hygiene graduate students to satisfy course requirements and service learning competencies, promoted faculty development, and also served the community. Under the direction of a community college dietetics professor, students and faculty from both academic institutions had opportunities to participate in community outreach events. Experiences included teacher recertification training for community college credits in the local school system, paraprofessional workshops, community-based health fairs, career counseling, guest lectures, expanded internship sites, and access to daycare personnel studying childcare. Step-bystep procedures for implementing such a model offers guidance for other institutions seeking to replicate the arrangement. The model presented in this paper can serve as a guide for curriculum integration with a variety of nursing and allied health programs. Partnerships of this nature provide rich environments for faculty development, program marketing, transfer counseling, student service learning experiences, IPE collaborations, and access to community at-risk populations

Flammer Syndrome in Aesthetic Medicine: The Importance of Recognizing Signs and Symptoms

    Get PDF
Purpose Flammer syndrome (FS), a clinical entity characterized by primary vascular dysregulation of blood flow together with various signs and symptoms, has been reported in both healthy individuals and those with certain diseases. Adequate management of FS requires personalized treatment and preventive measures. In the field of aesthetic medicine, proper regulation of blood flow is crucial for optimal wound healing. This study aims to investigate the prevalence of FS signs and symptoms among individuals seeking aesthetic intervention. Methods A total of 207 patients seeking aesthetic intervention at the Beauty2Go clinic in Lucerne answered a standardized questionnaire consisting of 15 signs and symptoms of FS. Results Overall, 189 (91.3%) patients were female and 18 (8.7%) were male. The mean age was 36.0 years (standard deviation [SD] 12.1) and the median age was 35.0 years (interquartile range [IQR]: 14.0−67.0). Several signs and symptoms of FS were present among patients undergoing aesthetic surgery. Compared to a control group patients showed a higher tendency towards cold hands (25.1% [95% confidence interval [CI]: 19.5–31.7]), feeling cold (21.7% [95% CI: 16.4–28.1]) and low blood pressure (27.3% [95% CI: 21.0–34.7]). Other signs and symptoms included Increased response to certain drugs (8.4% [95% CI: 4.8–14.3]) a low Body Mass Index (BMI) (58.0% [95% CI: 50.9–64.7]), Reversible skin blotches (7.2% [95% CI: 4.3–11.9]) and a tendency towards perfectionism (53.6% [95% CI: 46.6–60.5]). Accompanying symptoms of migraines were lower in the patient group (5.0% [95% CI: 2.2–10.4]) than in the control group. Conclusions The prevalence of FS is notable among individuals seeking aesthetic interventions. Acknowledging this fact not only enables the treatment of FS in patients but also empowers the field of aesthetic medicine to devise proactive strategies for enhancing blood flow regulation through personalized treatment in this population. This research paper emphasizes the significance of identifying FS in the context of aesthetic procedures and highlights the potential benefits of personalized preventive treatments

Evaluating Workload: A Collaborative Approach between Dean and Department Chair

Faculty workload calculations are complex and an institution’s mission directs the level of faculty participation in each teaching, scholarship and service. The University of Saint Joseph (USJ; West Hartford, Connecticut) transitioned from a college to a university, necessitating reexamination of faculty workload policy. The review was conducted collaboratively between senior administration and key faculty to understand best practices in calculating teaching workload. A review of best practice, evaluation of workload policies at a defined set of peer institutions, and an internal investigation of the types of course offered by USJ faculty was examined
