Dehydration test

Raw data of dehydration test of selected and control populations of Locusta migratoria. This file contains locusts masses that measured by analytical scales at different hydration states (full hydrated, at death, and dry mass)

Respirametry recording files

CO2 (channel 1) and H2O (channel 2) emission traces of locusts that recorded by Expedata software (Sable Systems International, Las Vegas, NV, USA). The additional readme file contains a list of respirometry recording file manes with description of each individual locust (recording date, ID, population and file name)

Gas exchange patterns in connective-cut <i>S. gregaria</i> of both density-dependent phases, measured at 30°C.

<p>Connective-cut gregarious locusts exhibited all three patterns (a, b, c: DGC, cyclic and continuous, respectively), at similar proportions compared with controls. Connective-cut solitary locusts abandoned DGC and displayed a typical continuous gas exchange pattern (d). Red lines indicate threshold value for determination of spiracle closure (see methods).</p

<p>No significant differences were found between SO and intact individuals in either density-dependent phase (P>0.60). Cutting the connectives had a significant effect on gas exchange pattern in solitary (P<0.001) but not gregarious (P = 0.38) locusts.</p

<p>Mean (±s.e.m.) mass-specific CO₂ emission rates (spCO₂) of intact, sham-operated (SO), and connective-cut (CC) <i>S. gregaria</i> of both phases, measured at 30°C. Similar rates were measured for intact gregarious and solitary intact locusts (ANCOVA with body mass as a covariate, P = 0.22), but significant phase effect was found across treatments (Two-way ANCOVA, P = 0.003).</p

Data on latitudinal variations in desiccation tolerance in six natural populations of Drosophila melanogaster from North America. Cultures were grown at three different temperatures (18, 25, and 30 °C) and assays were performed on 3-4 days old adults at 25 °C
