    Effect of TiB2 on the Mechanical and Tribological Properties of Marine Grade Aluminum Alloy 5052: An Experimental Investigation

    Aluminum Alloy 5052 is one of the excellent corrosion resistant alloys among the Aluminum 5000 series alloys. Despite the favourable corrosion resistance, it exhibits low resistance to wear and perform poorly in various tribological applications.This study attempts to investigate the impact of TiB2 reinforcement on the mechanical and tribological properties of Aluminum Alloy 5052 matrix alloy, fabricated using the stir casting technique. Composites with varying weight percentages (0, 2.5, 5 and 7.5 wt. %)of TiB2 were prepared. Vicker's hardness testing was conducted to assess the effect of TiB2 content on composite hardness.Hardness of composites increased from 65.5 to 85.16 HV in tandem with the TiB2 content depicting a rise of about 30 %. Tribological properties were studied through dry sliding wear tests using a pin-on-disc tribometer, with varying loads (10 N and 50 N)and sliding speeds (1 m/s and 3 m/s). The results demonstrate that the addition of TiB2 significantly improves the wear resistance of the composites,being optimum in composite with 5 wt. % of TiB2. A maximum increase of about 36 % in wear resistance was observed at high load and high-speed conditions corresponding to 5 wt. % TiB2 concentration. FESEM analysis revealed distinct wear modes and the role of TiB2 in changing the wear mechanism from abrasion to delamination. This study underscores the pivotal role of TiB2 in enhancing the mechanical and tribological properties of Aluminum Alloy5052, expanding its application scope, particularly in lightweight engineering applications in general and marine in particular

    Driving Monitoring System Application With Stretchable Conductive Inks: A Review

    Nowadays the automotive industry is moving towards developing system connected vehicle parameters which can monitor the driver’s behaviour before driving. Most drivers lose focus and are emotionally distracted while driving owing to fatigue, drowsiness and alcohol consumption, that can result in a traffic accidents. The device or equipment used to detect the driver’s health before driving has always posed a problem in terms of the efficiency of the system especially concerning the cable connecting the equipment. Stretchable conductive ink (SCI) via electronic devices have been widely applied in various industries such as fabric, health, automotive, communications, etc. The flexibility allows a circuit to be placed on an uneven or constantly changing surface. However, till to-date, the effective use of the stretchable conductive ink has yet to be proven in the automotive industry. The current driver monitoring system cannot integrate with many of the driver's health level tracking features at one time. A combination of the driver’s monitoring system methods with stretchable conductive ink (SCI) sensors layout design can be used to prevent road accidents as a result of a driver’s behavior and will make the driving monitoring system more effective with soft substrates technology that has the advantage of geometric deformation based on appropriate shapes

    Constructive Optimization of Vulcanization Installations in Order to Improve the Performance of Conveyor Belts

    Conveyor belts of special importance must have superior mechanical characteristics. The joining by vulcanization of the conveyor belts allows to obtain superior performances, but it has been found that at the vulcanizing joint of the conveyor belts, there is a “bell”-type defect. This type of defect can cause the quick removal of the conveyor belts from use; thus, within this paper, we realized the constructive optimization of vulcanization installations using the finite element method (FEM). Thus, the FEM analysis was performed for the installation used at the present time, which has four spacers for stiffening, moving to the next stage to a stiffening system with seven spacers and, in the last stage, it was proposed to use a stiffening plate. The joined conveyor belts were of type ST 2000, and by the constructive optimization of the vulcanizing press type DSLQ, the bell-type defect was greatly reduced. Also, an analysis of the effects that the constructive optimization of the vulcanization installation has on the resistance to extraction of the metallic insert from the rubber matrix of the costs determined by the proposed constructive modifications, has been performed

    Experimental Research on the Behaviour of Metal Active Gas Tailor Welded Blanks during Single Point Incremental Forming Process

    The present paper aims to study the behaviour of Metal Active Gas (MAG) tailor welded blanks during the single point incremental forming process (SPIF) from an experimental point of view. The single point incremental forming process was chosen for manufacturing truncated cone and truncated pyramid shaped parts. The same material (S355) and the same thickness (0.9 mm) were selected for the joining of blank sheets because the main goal of the paper was to study the influence of the MAG welding process throughout the SPIF process. A Kuka robot, equipped with a force transducer and an optical measurement system were used for manufacturing and evaluating the parts by SPIF. The selected output data were major and minor strain, thickness reduction, forces and springback at the SPIF process. Another line test was performed to evaluate the formability in SPIF. The main conclusion of the paper is that during the SPIF process, fractures occur in one side welded blanks even at moderate wall angles, while in the case of double side welded blanks there is a decrease of formability but parts can still be produced at moderate angles (55 degrees) without any problems
