A History of the Productions of the Little Theatre, 1933-1935

The growth of interest in drama and the realization of the educational value of dramatics has developed a new place for the college theatre. Pacific Little Theatre was organized eleven years ago to fulfill a definite need and has since grown slowly and steadily into a most active producing unit, serving both school and community. Indeed Pacific Little Theatre can be taken as an excellent specific example of the contribution which can be made to campus and community life by the college aside from its main function as fundamental ground for students in the theatre arts

The Graphical Representation of the Digital Astronaut Physiology Backbone

This report summarizes my internship project with the NASA Digital Astronaut Project to analyze the Digital Astronaut (DA) physiology backbone model. The Digital Astronaut Project (DAP) applies integrated physiology models to support space biomedical operations, and to assist NASA researchers in closing knowledge gaps related to human physiologic responses to space flight. The DA physiology backbone is a set of integrated physiological equations and functions that model the interacting systems of the human body. The current release of the model is HumMod (Human Model) version 1.5 and was developed over forty years at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). The physiology equations and functions are scripted in an XML schema specifically designed for physiology modeling by Dr. Thomas G. Coleman at UMMC. Currently it is difficult to examine the physiology backbone without being knowledgeable of the XML schema. While investigating and documenting the tags and algorithms used in the XML schema, I proposed a standard methodology for a graphical representation. This standard methodology may be used to transcribe graphical representations from the DA physiology backbone. In turn, the graphical representations can allow examination of the physiological functions and equations without the need to be familiar with the computer programming languages or markup languages used by DA modeling software

Development and Optimization of a Rapid Assay Kit for the Detection of Vibrio Cholerae in Bivalves

A rapid assay kit for Vibrio cholerae (Vc) was developed to detect and quantify Vc cells in oyster samples within 24 h. The kit, formulated within a two -phase (liquid and solid) 96-well plate, can detect biomarker expression of Vc when the enrichment broth and incubation temperature are optimized. The kit showed 91 % selectivity and 92 % specificity when tested with 23 inclusive Vc and 106 exclusive non-Vc strains. The kit was further optimized using 47 samples of oysters, clams, and soil. There was no significant difference in most probable number between the kit, conventional PCR and BAX PCR regardless of agar heating method (autoclaved vs. boiled). The kit’s limit of detection was below 5 cfu/g. The kit is a reliable method for the detection of V. cholerae in bivalve samples

Painting in Prose: Ardent Pre-Raphaelitism in George MacDonald\u27s Landscapes

Although not a visual artist, George MacDonald can be recognized for composing prose landscapes in his literary works that are Pre-Raphaelite in principle and style. MacDonald created word paintings that reference specific Pre-Raphaelite artworks; his landscapes show the shared influence of John Ruskin’s art theory, and he employs compositional techniques that correspond to the symbolic realism in early Pre-Raphaelite canvases. An awareness of MacDonald’s Pre-Raphaelitism adds to the appreciation of both his fiction and non-fiction
