    This report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand”The 2nd Stakeholder Consultation Meeting was conducted by Department of Fisheries on 25-26 April 2018. The meeting aimed to provide participants the understanding of fisheries management, concept of the project, and role for implementing 2 selected Refugia sites in Thailand, i.e. Chang Strait in Trat Province and Samui Island in Surat Thani Province. The meeting was attended by 54 participants, including Fishermen, Local administrators, NGO, Fish Trader, Surat Thani Fisheries Provincial Office, Resource persons, meeting organizer and observers. The meeting results are summarized as follows: 1) reviewed list of activities in the past; 2) list of priority species and threats to their life cycles; 3) stakeholder analysis; 4) baseline information needs; 5) socio-economic survey plan; and 6) ways of communication.UNEP/GE

    This report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand”Local consultation workshops on fisheries Refugia boundary and management planning in Trat Site under the Fisheries Refugia project were co-organized by Trat Fisheries Provincial Office and Eastern Gulf Fisheries Research and Development Center (Rayong) and Department of Fisheries during 13 – 18 July 2020 with 385 participants. These workshops were on-site conducted in all of the 5 coastal districts of Trat Province, namely Muang District, Laem Ngop District, Khlong Yai District, Koh Chang District, and Koh Kut District, aimed at enhancing local involvement in fisheries Refugia boundary delineation and management planning in the site. Tentative fisheries Refugia boundaries and management plans were proposed for discussions, and conclusions were finally done upon mutual agreement in each district. The conclusions will be further prepared for consideration at the Provincial Fisheries Committee meeting for policy guidance prior to submission to the next authority committee.UNEP/GE

    This report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand”The stakeholders’ engagement was held in a hybrid mode and chaired by Mr. Bohari Leng, the Director of the Sarawak Marine Fisheries Department. DOF proposed the refugia site be gazetted as a Protected Area to conserve and sustainably manage the tiger prawn (Penaeus monodon). The site boundaries demarking was proposed by the researchers supported by their findings. The proposed refugia site has an area of 852km2. Thus, the consultation targeted the traditional fishermen from Zone A and Zone B as well commercial fishermen from Zone C7UNEP/GE

    This report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand”The fifth meeting of Thailand’s National Scientific and Technical Committee for the project entitled “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand” was conducted virtually via Zoom Application by the Department of Fisheries on 6th July 2021. The meeting was chaired by Ms. Praulai Nootmorn, Senior Expert in Marine Fisheries and National Focal Point for Thailand, acted for Senior Expert in Fisheries Management, the Chairperson, in his absence. There were 21 attendees participating in the meeting, composed of 14 committee members, 2 project officers for DOF, and 5 observers form Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, Project Coordinating Unit, Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency, and Department of Marine and Coastal Resources. This meeting was focusing on the Revision of Thailand’s National Scientific and Technical Committee, Progress of the Project Implementation, Report on the Project Extension, Report on the Catch Information of Short Mackerel from Gill Net Fisheries in Trat Province during the year 2018-2021 and the Management Planning for Fisheries Refugia of Short Mackerel at Trat Site concerning Gill Net Fisheries.UNEP/GE
