Examining Mental Health and Well-being Provision in Schools in Europe: Methodological Approach

    Get PDF
Schools are considered an ideal setting for community-based mental health and well-being interventions for young people. However, in spite of extensive literature examining the effectiveness of such interventions, very few studies have investigated existing mental health and well-being provision in schools. The current study aims to extend such previous research by surveying primary and secondary schools to investigate the nature of available provision in nine European countries (Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Poland, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, the UK and Ukraine). Furthermore, the study aims to investigate potential barriers to mental health and well-being provision and compare provision within and between countries

Rural fire waste in Iowa 1930-31

The investigation reported in this manuscript was undertaken to determine methods of reducing the rural fire waste in Iowa. As a part of the general project, “An Investigation of Wind and Fire Losses to Farm Buildings in Iowa,” it initiates a cumulative study of rural fire losses. Reports recorded in the state fire marshal’s office including, with few exceptions, all the losses from all parts of the state, whether or not insured, were used. While it is planned to continue this study over a period of years in order to average irregularities which occur from year to year, there seemed to be some rather significant characteristics in the data recorded for the years 1930 and 1931 which warranted this report. These data have been carefully tabulated and analyzed with respect to the following items. a. Trends of state and national fire losses. b. Distribution of fire waste by location, magnitude, property damaged and time of occurrence. c. Causes of rural fires. d. Rainfall and rural fires. e. Tenancy and rural fires

Cooling dynamics of a dilute gas of inelastic rods: a many particle simulation

We present results of simulations for a dilute gas of inelastically colliding particles. Collisions are modelled as a stochastic process, which on average decreases the translational energy (cooling), but allows for fluctuations in the transfer of energy to internal vibrations. We show that these fluctuations are strong enough to suppress inelastic collapse. This allows us to study large systems for long times in the truely inelastic regime. During the cooling stage we observe complex cluster dynamics, as large clusters of particles form, collide and merge or dissolve. Typical clusters are found to survive long enough to establish local equilibrium within a cluster, but not among different clusters. We extend the model to include net dissipation of energy by damping of the internal vibrations. Inelatic collapse is avoided also in this case but in contrast to the conservative system the translational energy decays according to the mean field scaling law, E(t)\propto t^{-2}, for asymptotically long times.Comment: 10 pages, 12 figures, Latex; extended discussion, accepted for publication in Phys. The Assessment and Application of Patient Satisfaction Variables in Marketing a Psychiatric Practice

    Get PDF
As the health care industry becomes increasingly more competitive, marketing functions will take on increasingly more importance. At the core of the marketing concept is the pursuit of customer satisfaction, or, for medical services, patient satisfaction. This study reports on the administration of a 33-item patient satisfaction questionnaire to the consumers of services in four outpatient offices of a large, group private psychiatric practice. Data are analyzed descriptively and recommendations are made for improvements of service delivery based on the findings of the survey

The Perception and Use of Consumer Information Sources

The Federal Office of Consumers\u27 Education (OCE) released, in 1982, an updated definition of consumer education which states that consumer education develops skills, knowledge, and understandings that will help consumers make better purchase decisions. Who is today\u27s consumer? The consumer is a part-time amateur buyer facing, in the marketplace, a whole series of full-time professional sellers. This definition describes the consumer\u27s situation in today\u27s dynamic and complex market. Since the early 1970\u27s, a growing awareness of consumer rights and needs has occurred in the marketplace. This awareness involves the resources necessary for the consumer to cope within the environment

Aircraft systems architecting: a functional-logical domain perspective

    Get PDF
Presented is a novel framework for early systems architecture design. The framework defines data structures and algorithms that enable the systems architect to operate interactively and simultaneously in both the functional and logical domains. A prototype software tool, called AirCADia Architect, was implemented, which allowed the framework to be evaluated by practicing aircraft systems architects. The evaluation confirmed that, on the whole, the approach enables the architects to effectively express their creative ideas when synthesizing new architectures while still retaining control over the process
