Local and territorial determinants in the realization of public–private–partnerships: an empirical analysis for Italian provinces

ABSTRACT Relational networks and intangible factors are crucial elements for the competitiveness of a territory. Public–Private–Partnerships (PPPs), in particular, allow for the provision of goods and services that favour the exploitation of complementarities between public and private resources. They aim at promoting an increase in the overall efficiency of investment projects through a complex mechanism that distributes risk and revenues among stakeholders. This paper examines the local and territorial determinants of PPPs through an econometric analysis based upon Italian municipal data, grouped at the provincial level. Using a tobit model, we analyse the relationship between the realization of successful PPP initiatives and different sets of factors, including less analysed local and territorial determinants. We stress the role of the local management of infrastructure assets, the administrative efficiency of local authorities and the diffusion of previous local development initiatives. Local management and territorial context factors explain most of the occurrence of successful PPP initiatives in the pre-crisis period while usual determinants (infrastructure endowment and financial distress) display a weaker effect

Importance of Medieval Numerology and the Effects Upon Meaning in the Works of the Gawain-Poet

An examination of the influence of medieval numerology and number theory upon the works of the Gawain poet, this essay seeks to connect the importance of numbers to the construction of the four poems. By examining such number theories as the Divine Proportion and marriage numbers, as well as Pythagorean number concepts of masculine and feminine numbers, a clear connection between the literature and the number can be found. The poet not only seeks to use numbers to impart important Christian doctrine to his readers in a subconscious way, he also demonstrates an extreme pre-planning of every line and layout of each poem upon the page. Continuing in current critical traditions of examining this manuscript as whole, Pearl, Patience, Cleanness, and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight are shown to join together in an interweaving of connectivity through number pattern and the repetition of important numerological concepts

AbstractThis essay will focus on a case study of good practices in the field of projection and circulation of digital contents for humanistic research, starting from handwritten sources: the Virtual Manuscript Library of Switzerland project. As is stated in the website, “the goal of the project is to provide access to all medieval and selected early modern manuscripts of Switzerland via a virtual library”, virtually reunifying dispersed handwritten collections. This goal was made possible thanks to the TEI-P5 standard, which “enables the exchange of metadata with other digitization projects, meta-search engines, and portal sites”

Pour mieux l’expliquer, nous adopterons ponctuellement une optique diachronique.In this article we propose an insight into the linguistic situation in the State of Goa and show that the decision to introduce Konkani as the official language has lead to conflicts, in particular between religious communities.
