    In this empirical note we use a more powerful nonlinear (logistic) unit root test advanced by Leybourne et al. (1998) to investigate the hysteresis in unemployment for ten European countries for the period 1961-2003.     ESTIMATION THE PREFERENCE OF ECOTOURISM FOR GAOMEI WETLAND IN TAIWAN

    Gaomei Wetland is not only the biggest grassy coastal wetland, but also a wild‐animal protecting area, located on the west‐central coast of Taiwan.Wetlands are considered as one of the most important natural resource, which offer a lot of benefits for human and other creatures. However, it is believed that over-intensive recreational activities in Gaomei Wetland should be responsible for serious damages on natural environment and ecosystem. This study takes Gaomei wetland as an example, and aims to estimate its landscape and ecological services values through Choice experiment. The results of this research showed that Gaomei landscape’s economic value is 2.06million(USD)peryear,and2.06 million (USD) per year, and 1.54 million (USD) for its value of ecological services. These findings can help to bring up the awareness of natural resource preservation, and hopefully to keep Gaomei Wetland substantial. The results also indicated that visitors with undergraduate degree or above were willing to pay $6.43 (USD) per year for entry fee to enjoy sunset scenery in Gaomei wetland

    NERVE CONDUCTION VELOCITY INVESTIGATION IN ATHLETES WITH TRAINED LOWER EXTRAMITY FOR WELL·CONTROLLlNG MOVEMENT

    Reaction, coordination and speed ability are essential for success in a variety of sports. Nerve conduction velocity (NCV) is related to all of these abilities. Previous studies had investigated power and endurance type athletes, but there is less research in athletes who are skilled in coordinated lower extremity movements requiring more neural adaptation for nerve conduction velocity after specific exercise training. The purpose of this study is to investigate nerve conduction velocity of soccer, sanshou players and untrained subjects. Results show that NCV was significantly different among the 3 groups (p < .05) for the femoral and tibal nerves. For both femoral and tibial nerve.§, results showed that the soccer players had significantly faster NCV than the other groups (p < .05). According to the results, faster NCV adaptation from long term training in soccer players may be relate to their movement requirement of changing their movement direction quickly and skillfully

    EFFECT OF BACKPACK ON SELECTED GAIT PARAMETERS OF PRIMARY SCHOOL CHilDREN

    The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of a backpack load of 15% body weight (BW) on selected gait parameters of primary school children. Ten participants were recruited from primary school (age: 10.3 ± 0.48 yrs; hI: 141.3 ± 0 .41 cm; mass: 38.1 ± 6.1 kg). A JVC 9800 (60 hz) video camera synchronized with an AMTI force plate (1200 Hz) were used to collect data. A repeated measure t-test (p < 0.05) was used for group comparisons. The backpack load did not affect either the proportionate time of the stance phase, swing phase, or the magnitude of selected vertical and anterioposterior ground reaction force parameters. However, the 15% backpack load did cause a significant increase in proportionate double leg support time

    POOR FORCE CONTROL PERFORMANCE AND UNVARIED EMG PATTERN AFTER AGONIST MUSCLE FATIGUE IN HUMANS

    Ballistic and accurately control of a targeted fast contraction relies on phasic activations of the agonist and antagonist muscles. The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of tibialis anterior (TA) fatigue on the systematic bias and the consistence of the net dorsiflexion torque generation and the controlling pattern of the agonist-antagonist muscles. Ten subjects were tested twice with a week apart. Fast and slow dorsiflexion at 40%-MVG were measured before and after fatigue of the TA by voluntary isometric dorsiflexions. The EMG of the TA and soleus (Sol) were recorded. The results revealed that more post-fatigue increment of the systematic error was in the fast dorsiflexions, random error increment were similar in both speeds of isometric dorsiflexions, the cocontraction ratio increased after fatigue only in the slow dorsiflexions. Our results suggested that precision of the fast targeted isometric contractions was reduced after fatigue because of unvaried agonist-antagonist control strategy

    The effects of rear-wheel camber on the kinematics of upper extremity during wheelchair propulsion

    BACKGROUND: The rear-wheel camber, defined as the inclination of the rear wheels, is usually used in wheelchair sports, but it is becoming increasingly employed in daily propulsion. Although the rear-wheel camber can increase stability, it alters physiological performance during propulsion. The purpose of the study is to investigate the effects of rear-wheel cambers on temporal-spatial parameters, joint angles, and propulsion patterns. METHODS: Twelve inexperienced subjects (22.3±1.6 yr) participated in the study. None had musculoskeletal disorders in their upper extremities. An eight-camera motion capture system was used to collect the three-dimensional trajectory data of markers attached to the wheelchair-user system during propulsion. All participants propelled the same wheelchair, which had an instrumented wheel with cambers of 0°, 9°, and 15°, respectively, at an average velocity of 1 m/s. RESULTS: The results show that the rear-wheel camber significantly affects the average acceleration, maximum end angle, trunk movement, elbow joint movement, wrist joint movement, and propulsion pattern. The effects are especially significant between 0° and 15°. For a 15° camber, the average acceleration and joint peak angles significantly increased (p < 0.01). A single loop pattern (SLOP) was adopted by most of the subjects. CONCLUSIONS: The rear-wheel camber affects propulsion patterns and joint range of motion. When choosing a wheelchair with camber adjustment, the increase of joint movements and the base of support should be taken into consideration

    Solving Reality Problems by Using Mutual Information Analysis

    Cross-mutual information (CMI) can calculate to time series for thousands of sampled points from corticocortical connection among different functional states of brain in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients. The aim of this study was to use mutual information analysis in the multichannel EEG to predict the probability of AD disease. Considering the correlation between AD disease and ageing effect, the participants were 9 AD patients and 45 normal cases involving teenagers, young people and elders. This data revealed that both right frontal and temporo-parietal are differences between normal and AD participants. Besides, this study found the theta band is the main frequency to separate AD patients from all participants. Furthermore, this study suggested a higher distinguishable method by mutual information to predict the possibility AD patients

    Numerical Analysis on Color Preference and Visual Comfort from Eye Tracking Technique

    Color preferences in engineering are very important, and there exists relationship between color preference and visual comfort. In this study, there are thirty university students who participated in the experiment, supplemented by pre- and posttest questionnaires, which lasted about an hour. The main purpose of this study is to explore the visual effects of different color assignment with subjective color preferences via eye tracking technology. Eye-movement data through a nonlinear analysis detect slight differences in color preferences and visual comfort, suggesting effective physiological indicators as extensive future research discussed. Results found that the average pupil size of eye-movement indicators can effectively reflect the differences of color preferences and visual comfort.     MENTOR: Multilingual tExt detectioN TOward leaRning by analogy

    Text detection is frequently used in vision-based mobile robots when they need to interpret texts in their surroundings to perform a given task. For instance, delivery robots in multilingual cities need to be capable of doing multilingual text detection so that the robots can read traffic signs and road markings. Moreover, the target languages change from region to region, implying the need of efficiently re-training the models to recognize the novel/new languages. However, collecting and labeling training data for novel languages are cumbersome, and the efforts to re-train an existing/trained text detector are considerable. Even worse, such a routine would repeat whenever a novel language appears. This motivates us to propose a new problem setting for tackling the aforementioned challenges in a more efficient way: "We ask for a generalizable multilingual text detection framework to detect and identify both seen and unseen language regions inside scene images without the requirement of collecting supervised training data for unseen languages as well as model re-training". To this end, we propose "MENTOR", the first work to realize a learning strategy between zero-shot learning and few-shot learning for multilingual scene text detection.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, published to IROS 202
