Impacts of Real-Time Transit Information on Bus Passengers’ Travel Choices Based on Travel Behaviour Survey

    Get PDF
Real-time transit information (RTI) service can provide travellers with information on public transport and guide them to arrange departure time and travel mode accordingly. This paper aims to analyse travellers’ choices under RTI by exploring the relationship between the related variables of RTI and passengers’ travel choice. Based on the stated preference (SP) survey data, the ordinal logistic regression model is established to analyse the changing probability of passengers’ travel behaviour under RTI. The model calculation results show that travellers getting off work are more likely to change their travel choice under RTI. When data from the control and experimental groups are compared, the differences in route selection are significant. Specifically, passengers with RTI have a more complex route selection than those without, including their changes of travel mode, departure time, vehicles, and stop choices. The research findings can provide insights into the optimisation of intelligent transit information systems and the strategy of RTI. Also, the analysis of passengers’ travel choice under RTI in the transit network can help to improve network planning

Fan-Shaped Model for Generating the Anisotropic Catchment Area of Subway Stations based on Feeder Taxi Trips

The catchment areas of subway stations have always been considered as a circular shape in previous research. Although some studies show the catchment area may be affected by road conditions, public transportation, land use, and other factors, few studies have discussed the shape of the catchment area. This study focuses on analyzing the anisotropy of catchment areas and developing a sound methodology to generate them. Based on taxi global positioning system (GPS) data, this paper first proposes a data mining method to identify feeder taxi trips around subway stations. Then, a fan-shaped model is proposed and applied to Xi\u27an Metro Line 1 to generate catchment areas. The number and angle of fan areas are determined according to the spatial distribution characteristics of GPS points. Results show that the acceptable distance of the catchment area has significant differences in different directions. The average maximum acceptable distance of one station is 2.31 times the minimum. Furthermore, for feeder taxis, the overlap ratio of the catchment area is very high. Travelers in several places could choose several different stations during the travel. A multiple linear regression model was introduced to find the influencing factors, and the result shows the anisotropy of the catchment area is affected not only by neighboring subway stations, but also by the road network, distance from the city center, and so on

Purpose: To study the influence of artemisinin derivative, SM934 on activation, proliferation, differentiation and antibody-secreting capacity of B cells of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) mice, and the underlying mechanism. Methods: Female MRL/lpr mice (n = 60) were randomly assigned to four groups of 15 mice each: SLE, 2.5 mg/kg SM934; 5 mg/kg SM934, and 10 mg/kg SM934 groups. Serum levels of interleukins 6, 10, 17 and 21 (IL-6, IL-17, IL-10 and IL-21) were determined. The secretions of immunoglobulins G and M (IgG and IgM) by B cells were determined. The population of B lymphocyte subtypes was determined flow cytometrically. The expressions of Blimp-1 and Bcl-6, Toll-like receptors 7 and 9 (TLR7 and TLR9) mRNAs were determined. Results: SLE-induced upregulation of serum IL-10, IL-6, IL-17 and IL-21 was significantly and dosedependently reduced following a 2-month treatment with SM934 (p < 0.01). Treatment with SM934 significantly and dose-dependently accentuated B cell germinal center B cell populations, but significantly and dose-dependently decreased the populations of plasma and activated B cells (p < 0.01). The splenic levels of IgG and IgM were decreased in a dose-dependent fashion after 8 weeks of treatment (p < 0.01). Artemisinin derivative SM934 decreased the expression of Blimp-1, and upregulated the expression of Bcl-6, both in a dose-dependent manner (p < 0.01). Moreover, SM934 decreased the mRNA expressions of TLR7 and TLR9 in a dose-based manner (p < 0.01). Conclusion: Artemisinin derivative SM934 mitigates LSE syndromes by suppressing the TLR-induced B-cell stimulation and plasma cell generatio

Hypertensive nephropathy treatment by heart-protecting musk pill: a study of anti-inflammatory therapy for target organ damage of hypertension

This study was designed to investigate the protective effect of the heart-protecting musk pill (HMP) on inflammatory injury of kidney from spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR). Male SHRs aged 4 weeks were divided into SHR model group, HMP low-dosage group (13.5 mg/kg), and HMP high-dosage group (40 mg/kg). Age-matched Wistar–Kyoto rats were used as normal control. All rats were killed at 12 weeks of age. Tail-cuff method and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay were used to determine rat systolic blood pressure and angiotensin II (Ang II) contents, respectively. Renal inflammatory damage was evaluated by the following parameters: protein expressions of inflammatory cytokines, carbonyl protein contents, nitrite concentration, infiltration of monocytes/macrophages in interstitium and glomeruli, kidney pathological changes, and excretion rate of urinary protein. HMP did not prevent the development of hypertension in SHR. However, this Chinese medicinal compound decreased renal Ang II content. Consistent with the change of renal Ang II, all the parameters of renal inflammatory injury were significantly decreased by HMP. This study indicates that HMP is a potent suppressor of renal inflammatory damage in SHR, which may serve as a basis for the advanced preventive and therapeutic investigation of HMP in hypertensive nephropathy

Direct dry-grinding synthesis of monodisperse lipophilic CuS nanoparticles

Copper sulfide nanoparticles, effective absorbers of near-infrared light, are recently attracting broad interest as a photothermal coupling agent for cancer therapy. Lipophilic copper sulfide nanoparticles are preferred for high performance biomedical applications due to high tissue affinity. Synthesis of lipophilic copper sulfide nanoparticles requires complicated multi-step processes under severe conditions. Here, we describe a new synthetic process, developed by direct dry-grinding of copper(II) acetylacetonate with sulfur under ambient environment at low temperature. The formed CuS nanoparticles are of uniform size, ∌10 nm in diameter, and are monodispersed in chloroform. Each covellite CuS nanocrystal surface is modified with oleylamine through hydrogen bonding between sulfur atoms and amine groups of oleylamine. The nanoparticles demonstrate near-infrared light absorption for photothermal applications. The synthetic methodology described here is more convenient and less extreme than previous methods, and should thus greatly facilitate the preparation of photothermal lipophilic copper sulfide nanomaterials for cancer therapy

Clinical characteristics of cognitive deficits in major depressive disorder: a 6-month prospective study

    Get PDF
Background: Previous studies have shown that major depressive disorder (MDD) is associated with a variety of cognitive deficits, which can persist even in remitted states. Nevertheless, the relationship between the cognitive and affective symptoms in depression remains obscure. The aim of the present study was to explore the clinical characteristics and correlates of the cognitive deficits in patients with MDD. Methods: Clinical and neuropsychological assessments were conducted at baseline and 6-month follow-ups. The severity of the disease and the effect of treatment were assessed with the Hamilton Depression Scale-17. Neuropsychological tests, including the digital symbol substitution test and digit span test, were administered to 67 depressed patients and 56 healthy participants. Results: MDD patients showed impairments in memory, attention, and executive function at baseline. After the 6-month treatment phase, patients in remission showed significant alleviation of these cognitive deficits, although impairments in attention and executive function were still present when compared to controls. Discussion: Significant cognitive deficits are present in MDD. The speed of remission of cognitive functions seems to be slower than and inconsistent with emotional symptoms, which provides new support for the argument that cognitive deficits are independent factors from the emotional symptoms in MDD
