Urban regions are an important factor in regional development. During the 2007-2013 programming period, the main input provided by cities and urban areas was at project level. For the 2014-2020 programming period, Cohesion policy enhances the role of urban areas. Nevertheless, in practice the role of cities still seems similar in scale. As the programming phase is almost completed, there is now limited scope for further influence on the design of the new programmes. FISCAL COMPETITION AND PUBLIC EDUCATION IN REGIONS

We explore an economy with two regions and independent local administrations. Local governments collect taxes to finance public education, but once educated agents can choose to migrate to the other region. The Nash equilibrium of the long-run game between the two governments is compared to a golden rule-type social optimum. Preliminary results show that the Nash equilibrium will result in over- or under-investment depending on the extent to which public education is subject to congestion.Successive generations, Public education, Federal and local government, Fiscal games.

Families of automorphisms of abelian varieties

We consider some algebraic aspects of the dynamics of an automorphism on a family of polarized abelian varieties parameterized by the complex unit disk. When the action on the cohomology of the generic fiber has no cyclotomic factor, we prove that such a map can be made regular only if the family of abelian varieties does not degenerate. As a contrast, we show that families of translations are always regularizable. We further describe the closure of the orbits of such maps, inspired by results of Cantat and Amerik-Verbitsky.Comment: 34 pages, 2 table

Lower bounds for Max-Cut in HH-free graphs via semidefinite programming

For a graph $G$, let $f(G)$ denote the size of the maximum cut in $G$. The problem of estimating $f(G)$ as a function of the number of vertices and edges of $G$ has a long history and was extensively studied in the last fifty years. In this paper we propose an approach, based on semidefinite programming (SDP), to prove lower bounds on $f(G)$. Archaeological Research Opportunities and Contributions at the Chase House Site

Between 2008 and 2014, Strawbery Banke’s excavation efforts were focused on the south and east yards of the Chase House (SB26). Although the extant 1762 Chase House was the first restored building opened at Strawbery Banke, no archaeological research had previously been done there. Possible relocation of an historical barn to the site drew attention to the need to investigate the Chase House property in order to gather information about a former kitchen ell, outbuilding, and privy on the site. Analysis of the standing structure, historical documents, and archaeological features, deposits, and recovered artifacts expand the museum’s interpretation of the 18th-, 19th-, and early 20th-century Chase House proprietors and occupants
