    The productions of the top-pions and top-Higgs associated with the charm quark at the hadron colliders

    In the topcolor-assistant technicolor (TC2) model, the typical physical particles, top-pions and top-Higgs, are predicted and the existence of these particles could be regarded as the robust evidence of the model. These particles are accessible at the Tevatron and LHC, and furthermore the flavor-changing(FC) feature of the TC2 model can provide us a unique chance to probe them. In this paper, we study some interesting FC production processes of top-pions and top-Higgs at the Tevatron and LHC, i.e., cΠtc\Pi_{t}^{-} and cΠt0(ht0)c\Pi_{t}^{0}(h_{t}^{0}) productions. We find that the light charged top-pions are not favorable by the Tevatron experiments and the Tevatron has a little capability to probe neutral top-pion and top-Higgs via these FC production processes. At the LHC, however, the cross section can reach the level of 1010010\sim 100 pb for cΠtc\Pi_t^- production and 10100 10\sim 100 fb for cΠt0(ht0)c\Pi_t^0(h_t^0) production. So one can expect that enough signals could be produced at the LHC experiments. Furthermore, the SM background should be clean due to the FC feature of the processes and the FC decay modes Πtbcˉ,Πt0(ht0)tcˉ\Pi_t^-\to b\bar{c}, \Pi_t^0(h_t^0)\to t\bar{c} can provide us the typical signal to detect the top-pions and top-Higgs. Therefore, it is hopeful to find the signal of top-pions and top-Higgs with the running of the LHC via these FC processes.Comment: 12 pages, 6 figure

    Firm size and the pre- holiday effect in New Zealand

    Using a sample spanning four decades, we document that the pre-holiday effect, one of the most common of the calendar effect anomalies, still exists in the New Zealand market. Contrary to international evidence, the effect appears to have increased over time. Moreover, we find that this effect is inversely related to firm size with the entire effect limited only to small firms, with no pre-holiday price patterns being observed for medium to large firms. The existence of this pre-holiday effect seems to be mainly driven by factors relevant to New Zealand. A search for possible reasons for the persistence of the effect points primarily towards the illiquidity of smaller stocks and the reluctance of small investors to buy prior to major market closures

    The rare top quark decays tcVt\to cV in the topcolor-assisted technicolor model

    We consider the rare top quark decays in the framework of topcolor-assisted technicolor (TC2) model. We find that the contributions of top-pions and top-Higgs predicted by the TC2 model can enhance the SM branching ratios by as much as 6-9 orders of magnitude. i.e., in the most case, the orders of magnitude of branching ratios are Br(tcg)105Br(t\to c g)\sim 10^{-5}, Br(tcZ)105Br(t\to c Z)\sim 10^{-5}, Br(tcγ)107Br(t\to c \gamma)\sim 10^{-7}. With the reasonable values of the parameters in TC2 model, such rare top quark decays may be testable in the future experiments. So, rare top quark decays provide us a unique way to test TC2 model.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figure

    Probing neutral top-pion via a flavor-changing process γγtcˉΠt0\gamma\gamma\to t\bar{c}\Pi_{t}^{0}

    In the framework of topcolor-assisted-technicolor model(TC2), we study a flavor-changing neutral top-pion production process γγtcˉΠt0\gamma\gamma\to t\bar{c}\Pi_{t}^{0}. The study shows that there exists a resonance effect which can enhance the cross section up to a few fb even tens fb. For a yearly luminosity 100 fb1fb^{-1} at future linear colliders, there might be hundreds even thousands events to be produced. On the other hand, the background of such flavor-changing process is very clean due to the GIM mechanism in SM . With such sufficient events and clean background, neutral toppion could be detected at future linear colliders with high center of energy and luminosity.     Self-induced and induced transparencies of two-dimensional and three- dimensional superlattices

    The phenomenon of transparency in two-dimensional and three-dimensional superlattices is analyzed on the basis of the Boltzmann equation with a collision term encompassing three distinct scattering mechanisms (elastic, inelastic and electron-electron) in terms of three corresponding distinct relaxation times. On this basis, we show that electron heating in the plane perpendicular to the current direction drastically changes the conditions for the occurrence of self-induced transparency in the superlattice. In particular, it leads to an additional modulation of the current amplitudes excited by an applied biharmonic electric field with harmonic components polarized in orthogonal directions. Furthermore, we show that self-induced transparency and dynamic localization are different phenomena with different physical origins, displaced in time from each other, and, in general, they arise at different electric fields.Comment: to appear in Physical Review

    Probing Topcolor-Assisted Technicolor from Top-Charm Associated Production at LHC

    We propose to probe the topcolor-assisted technicolor (TC2) model from the top-charm associated productions at the LHC, which are highly suppressed in the Standard Model. Due to the flavor-changing couplings of the top quark with the scalars (top-pions and top-Higgs) in TC2 model, the top-charm associated productions can occur via both the s-channel and t-channel parton processes by exchanging a scalar field at the LHC. We examined these processes through Monte Carlo simulation and found that they can reach the observable level at the LHC in quite a large part of the parameter space of the TC2 model.Comment: Version to appear in PRD (Rapid Communication

    Aerosol particles at a high-altitude site on the Southeast Tibetan Plateau, China: Implications for pollution transport from South Asia

          Bulk aerosol samples were collected from 16 July 2008 to 26 July 2009 at Lulang, a high-altitude (>3300m above sea level) site on the southeast Tibetan Plateau (TP); objectives were to determine chemical characteristics of the aerosol and identify its major sources. We report aerosol (total suspended particulate, TSP) mass levels and the concentrations of selected elements, carbonaceous species, and water-soluble inorganic ions. Significant buildup of aerosol mass and chemical species (organic carbon, element carbon, nitrate, and sulfate) occurred during the premonsoon, while lower concentrations were observed during the monsoon. Seasonal variations in aerosol and chemical species were driven by precipitation scavenging and atmospheric circulation. Two kinds of high-aerosol episodes were observed: one was enriched with dust indicators (Fe and Ca2+), and the other was enhanced with organic and elemental carbon (OC and EC), SO42−, NO3−, and Fe. The TSP loadings during the latter were 3 to 6 times those on normal days. The greatest aerosol optical depths (National Centers for Environmental Protection/National Center for Atmospheric Research reanalysis) occurred upwind, in eastern India and Bangladesh, and trajectory analysis indicates that air pollutants were transported from the southwest. Northwesterly winds brought high levels of natural emissions (Fe, Ca2+) and low levels of pollutants (SO42−, NO3−, K+, and EC); this was consistent with high aerosol optical depths over the western deserts and Gobi. Our work provides evidence that both geological and pollution aerosols from surrounding regions impact the aerosol population of the TP

    Supersymmetric effects in top quark decay into polarized W-boson

    We investigate the one-loop supersymmetric QCD (SUSY-QCD) and electroweak (SUSY-EW) corrections to the top quark decay into a b-quark and a longitudinal or transverse W-boson. The corrections are presented in terms of the longitudinal ratio \Gamma(t-->W_L b)/\Gamma(t--> W b) and the transverse ratio \Gamma(t-->W_- b)/\Gamma(t--> W b). In most of the parameter space, both SUSY-QCD and SUSY-EW corrections to these ratios are found to be less than 1% in magnitude and they tend to have opposite signs. The corrections to the total width \Gamma(t-->W b) are also presented for comparison with the existing results in the literature. We find that our SUSY-EW corrections to the total width differ significantly from previous studies: the previous studies give a large correction of more than 10% in magnitude for a large part of the parameter space while our results reach only few percent at most.Comment: Version in PRD (explanation and refs added

    Influence of the starting composition on the structural and superconducting properties of MgB2 phase

    We report the preparation of Mg1x_{1-x}B2_{2} (0\lex\le0.5) compounds with the nominal compositions. Single phase MgB2_{2} was obtained for x=0 sample. For 0<<x\le0.5, MgB4_{4} coexists with "MgB2_{2}" and the amount of MgB4_{4} increases with x. With the increase of x, the lattice parameter c{\it c} of "MgB2_{2}" increases and the lattice parameter a{\it a} decreases, correspondingly Tc_{c} of Mg1x_{1-x}B2_{2} decreases. The results were discussed in terms of the presence of Mg vacancies or B interstitials in the MgB2_{2} structure. This work is helpful to the understanding of the MgB2_{2} films with different Tc_{c}, as well as the Mg site doping effect for MgB2_{2}.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figure

    Lepton flavor violation decays τμP1P2\tau^-\to \mu^- P_1 P_2 in the topcolor-assisted technicolor model and the littlest Higgs model with TT parity

    The new particles predicted by the topcolor-assisted technicolor (TC2TC2) model and the littlest Higgs model with T-parity (called LHTLHT model) can induce the lepton flavor violation (LFVLFV) couplings at tree level or one loop level, which might generate large contributions to some LFVLFV processes. Taking into account the constraints of the experimental data on the relevant free parameters, we calculate the branching ratios of the LFVLFV decay processes τμP1P2\tau^-\to\mu^- P_1 P_2 with P1P2P_1 P_2 = π+π\pi^+\pi^-, K+KK^+K^- and K0K0ˉK^0\bar{K^0} in the context of these two kinds of new physics models. We find that the TC2TC2 model and the LHTLHT model can indeed produce significant contributions to some of these LFVLFV decay processes.Comment: 24 pages, 7 figure
