Kromatográfiás, kapilláris elektroforetikus és termikus módszerek kidolgozása biológiai és környezeti minták speciációs analízisére = Development of chromatographic, capillary electrophoretic and thermochemical methods for speciation analysis of biological and environmental samples
A kidolgozott módszerek egy jelentős csoportját képezik azok a gyors, viszonylag olcsó krómspeciációs módszerek, melyek nagy érzékenységüket a grafitkemencés atomabszorpciós spektrometriás detektálásnak köszönhetik. Közlemények száma: 9 folyóiratcikk, 50 előadás | In accordance with the goals formulated in the title of the application and in the work plan of the Research Contract, trace element analytical and trace element speciation methods were elaborated for the analysis of biological, human biological and environmental samples making use of chromatogaphic, capillary electrophoretic and thermal methods. The first presented group of methods ensure the enhancement of the speciation analytical method performance by increasing the efficiency of sample introduction method. An important group of the elaborated methods are those which are fast and relatively cheap chromium speciation methods, whose great sensitivity is due to the detection by graphite furnace atomic absorption method. The elaborated thermal spectrometric method can be regarded especially promising, it opens new research fields in thermal analysis, speciation analysis and material science too. Natural samples analized with the elaborated methods range from surface and drinking water, flying and settling dust, saliva and serum to food samples. Sekély vízterek mikroszkópikus rákközösségeinek vizsgálata és paleoökológiai rekonstrukciója = Microcrustacean community structure and its paleoecological reconstruction in shallow waters
A vízállás alapján megállapított korok jó egyezést mutattak a radiometrikus módszerrel kapott adatokkal. | Between 2004 and 2009 a paleolimnological research of the sediment in the Zalavári Pond in Kis-Balaton wetland, in Lake Balaton (Siófok and Keszthely basin) and in two oxbow lakes of the Tisza river took place. We concluded that the persence of cladoceran is very similar in the sediment and water body. In fact, the presents of well chitinised species in sediment tend to be notable than in the water body. The remains of weakly chitinised species were not found. On one hand the recent fauna is richer in terms of overall quantity of species, on the other hand the species diversity is more significant in the sediment. Beside intensive sampling protocol we must analyse the sediment to find correct faunistical record. The signs of flood events can be well determined in the cores from the oxbow lakes. Ages determined by records of heavy floods show significant similarity with the radiometric data. The sedimentation in oxbow lakes of the Tisza river was much faster (5.68 cm/year) prior to the flood defence contructions (1876-1919) than after (1.44 cm/year). Analysis of the sediment profile from Zalavári Pond in Kis-Balaton wetland, we concluded that the highest water level in Lake Balaton was between 8600 cal. BP and 5000 cal. BP but much lower water level reconstructed before 8600 cal. BP and after 5000 cal. BP. We also found, the remains of cladoceran from Keszthely and Siofok basin were not adequate for reconstructing water level changes
Inorganic chemical composition of dust deposited on oleander (Nerium oleander L.) leaves
Elemental composition of dust deposited onto leaf
surfaces was analysed in this study. Leaves of oleander
(
Nerium oleander
L.) were collected for testing the environ-
mental quality from Tripoli (Libya), Tajura (suburban of
Tripoli) and Ghadames (remote
area). Elemental analysis
was carried out by ICP-OES. Principle component analysis
(PCA) and enrichment factors were used for characterizing
and estimating the level of t
he pollution. Samples from
Tripoli were found to have higher contents of Pb, Zn, Cu in
comparison with suburban (Tajura) and remote (Ghadames)
areas. Our results demonstrated that the leaves of
Nerium
oleander
were useful indicator to assessment of atmospheric
deposition. Only limited information is available on environ-
mental issues in Libya and the results reported here may con-
tribute significantly to the assessment of the quality of the
environment in this country
Assessment of the effects of urbanization on trace elements of toe bones
Amphibians, particularly frogs and toads, are
increasingly used as bioindicators of contaminant
accumulation in pollution studies. We developed an
analytical technique to analyse their elemental contents
based on a small amount of toe bone samples. This
method is environment-friendly as, unlike traditional
methods, it is not necessary to kill animals during
sampling. Using this technique, we explored the effects
of urbanization on the elemental contents of toe bones.
Bufo bufo
specimens were collected from an urban
and two rural ponds. The ratios of Ca and P at the
ponds were: 20.5% Ca and 14.6% P at the urban pond
and 30.4% and 29.6% Ca, 22.4% and 21.7% P at the
rural ponds, respectively. For the other elements, the
following percentage ratios were found: 0.7% B,
0.3% Mg and 0.06% Zn at the urban pond and 1.1%
and 0.4% B, 0.4% Mg and 0.05% Zn at the rural
ponds, respectively. Canonical discriminant analysis
indicated the separation of the urban and the rural
ponds based on the elemental concentrations of toe
bones. Significant differences were found between the
concentrations of Ca, P, Mg, B and Zn at the urban
and the rural ponds (
p
<0.05). Anthropogenic activity
was found to have effects on the elemental contents of
toe bones in the urbanized area. Our study also
demonstrated that the developed method was appro-
priate for the elemental analysis of small samples to
assess the effects of urbanization
ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING USING LINDEN TREE LEAVES AS NATURAL TRAPS OF ATMOSPHERIC DEPOSITION: A PILOT STUDY IN TRANSILVANIA, ROMANIA
Atmospheric pollution caused by toxic elements is an emerging problem of concern. Tree leaves have been widely used as indicator of atmospheric pollutions and they are effective alternatives to the moreusual biomonitoring methods. Tree leaves can be used as natural traps of atmospheric deposition. Elemental composition of dust deposited onto leaf surfaces can be used to characterize the urban environment. A pilot survey including 16 Romanian settlements was carried out in order to evaluate the characteristics and sources of air pollutants. Tree leaves (Tilia tomentosa, Tilia cordata, Tilia platyphyllos) were collected and used for the measurements. Elemental analyses were carried out by ICP-OES and ICP-MS. Principal component and discriminant analyses were used to characterizing and estimating the level of pollution. Settlements were grouped on the basis of discriminant function values. Multivariate comparison of chemical data ordered the settlements into 3 main groups, which showed a systematic geographic distribution
