Led by the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), the Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) Program is a collaboration among all 15 CGIAR Research Centers. It brings together some of the world's best researchers in agricultural science, climate science, environmental and social sciences to identify and address the most important interactions, synergies and trade-offs between climate change and agriculture. CCAFS aims to define and implement a uniquely innovative and transformative research program to help vulnerable rural communities adjust to global changes in climate and overcome the threats posed to agriculture and food security. Fully aligned with this global effort, CIAT together with ICRAF, ICRISAT and ILRI started implementing the EU-IFAD funded project “Building livelihoods and resilience to climate change in East & West Africa”. The projects’ overall goal will be achieved through supporting large-scale adoption of climate-smart agricultural (CSA) technologies and practices and fulfilling two main objective

Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) within the Feed the Future Project Portfolio of USAID-Zambia: A CCAFS Deep Dive Review

As part of a global effort that will inform how Feed the Future tracks CSA across the 19 focus countries (plus aligned) the CCAFS and USAID/BFS team selected 5 to carry out a deeper analysis of their portfolio. A visit in May 2015 by staff from CCAFS and USAID-BFS Washington to the Zambia Mission provided an opportunity to identify and discuss CSA-related activities within the country and the USAID zone of influence (ZOI). The five-day visit included a series of meetings with Mission staff, implementing partners of Feed the Future projects, agency personnel of the Government of Zambia, and the FAO-Zambia CSA specialist. The discussions were preceded by a document review of projects in the Feed the Future portfolio, shared in advance of the visit by the Mission, and other agriculture and climate change information available on the web. This report outlines key findings of the visit and suggests ways in which CSA can be further integrated into upcoming Feed the Future programming in Zambia. Although climate change has been a key theme in FtF, considerations are under way for CSA being an explicit cross-cutting theme. Five countries were selected for visits. Results from these inquiries will inform how FtF tracks CSA across the 19 focus countries, plus aligned countries

What can the Latin American cities of Cali, Quito and Medellín learn from each other’s efforts to build sustainable food systems?

• Movements to create sustainable food systems in Latin America are beginning to transform agri-food dynamics and the concept of conventional urban development. • Addressing the problems associated with ensuring food and nutritional security in urban areas requires a systemic approach, collective action and the involvement of different actors and sectors. • Regional exchanges allow learning about experiences adapted to the realities of each territory, identifying successful practices, generating cooperation linkages as well as inspiring and encouraging innovation

Esta presentación muestra la importancia de incluir una perspectiva de género en las intervenciones Agricultura Sostenible Adaptada al Clima (ASAC), teniendo en cuenta mayor proporción de la población rural son mujeres, la creciente femininización de la agricultura en Centro América y su vulnerabilidad al cambio climático. En ese sentido, es fundamental incluir aspectos de género en todas las políticas, programas e investigaciones: para apoyar el cumplimiento de los derechos humanos, incrementar la producción agrícola y apoyar el desarrollo nacional

Esta charla impartida a estudiantes de pre-grado de la Universidad Zamorano (Honduras), impartida en el marco de las actividades del proyecto "Generando Evidencia sobre la agricultura sostenible adaptada al clima con perspectiva de género" finaciado por IDRC, tenia como objetivo sensibilizar a estos futuros profesionales de la region centroamericana sobre la importancia de entender las relaciones de género, y las desigualdades sociales que pueden derivar de ellas, y mas puntualmente proveerles conocimientos básicos sobre los nexos entre el género, la agricultura y el cambio climático
