Kukuruz i pšenica najvažnije su naše žitarice. One u najvećem postotku sudjeluju u nas u ishrani ljudi i domaćih životinja. Corn and wheat are the most important cereal crops in Croatia. They participate with the highest percentage in diet of humans and domestic animals. Corn and wheat are subject to attack by toxigenic fungi of genera Fusarium, Penicillium and Aspergillus. Fusarium species found on wheat grain in Croatia are listed. Incidence of Fusarium species on corn and wheat is specified, as well as important mycotoxins they produce. Symptoms of frequent Fusarium species on corn and wheat in the field are briefly described. Penillicium species that are found in corn grain in different types of storage facilities in Croatia are listed. Symptoms in the grain are described and more important toxigenic species of Penicillium mycotoxins are stated. Symptoms caused by Aspergillus flavus on corn in field are presented. Recommendations for preventative measures for implementation in the field in order to minimize the presence of toxigenic fungi on corn and wheat are given

The article gives and overview on grapevine black rot disease [Phyllosticta ampelicida (Engelm.) Aa] in Croatia. Black rot was described in Croatia for the first time in 1927 in Split area. In the year 1934 it spread in vineyards on the island of Krk, causing very high yield losses. The parasite is still present in this area today, although it does not cause much damage, mostly because of chemical control of other grapevine diseases. Beside the island Krk, the disease has also spread to the nearby island Cres and to the continental surroundings of Rijeka, Sušak, Crikvenica and Novi Vinodolski. Black rot has been occasionally recorded on the island of Korčula and in the hinterland of Dubrovnik. Symptoms and biology are described in the article, and recommendations for black rot control are given

Dr. sc.
