Seasonal activity of wild boar on the bilges
Sezonska aktivnost divlje svinje (Sus scrofa) ovisi o različitim vanjskim i unutarnjim
promjena dnevne aktivnosti tijekom ljetnih mjeseci.
The seasonal activity of the wild boar (Sus scrofa) depends on various external and internal
factors, temperature, light and human activity being one of the main factors of the activity.
So, the goal of this work was to determine the seasonal activity of wild boars on bilges. Also,
determine which type of trees they prefer and in which season. The research was conducted
in the hunting area III/29 "Prolom". 20 sensor cameras were used, which were placed on bilges
and scratching trees. The research lasted from March 2023 to April 2024, during which time
1,810 occurrences of wild boars were recorded over 4,228 days. The highest activity of wild
boars was between 5 and 9 p.m. at night, and there is little change in daily activity during the
summer months. Feral hogs prefer trees to scratch during spring and fall and prefer coniferous
tree species such as pine and spruce. The research showed the great application and
effectiveness of the use of sensor cameras, as well as the results of the seasonal activity of
wild boars on bilges and their preferences when using trees for scratching
Melissopalynological and physical-chemical properties of ivy honey
(Istarska, Krapinsko-zagorska, Zagrebačka i Vukovarsko-srijemska).
pH vrijednost, aktivnost dijastaze, prisutnost HMF-a, specifična rotacija, boja, određeni
određen omjer i zbroj fruktoze i glukoze. Raspon peludnih zrnaca bršljana kretao se
od 51 do 98 % što ukazuje na to da su svi uzorci uniflorni (> 45 %). Prosječni udio vode
iznosio je 17,9 %, električne provodnosti 0,50 mS/cm, pH vrijednosti 4,10, aktivnost
dijastaze je 31,6 DN, HMF 1,20 mg/kg, boja meda iznosi 62 mm Pfundove ljestvice
(svijetlo jantarna), dok je prosjek fruktoze bio 35,48 g/100 g, a glukoze 38,31 g/100 g.
U dosadašnjoj znanstvenoj i stručnoj literaturi gotovo da i nema podataka o ovoj
raritetnoj vrsti meda, stoga ovo istraživanje uvelike doprinosi opisivanju njegovih
fizikalno-kemijskih i senzorskih svojstava.Common ivy (Hedera helix L.) is a nectariferous plant that provides bees with abundant
forage in the autumn, aiding their preparation for winter. The aim of this study was to
conduct a melissopalynological (pollen) analysis, determine the physicochemical
parameters, and describe the sensory properties of ivy honey. The research was
conducted on 19 samples of ivy honey collected from local beekeepers in 4 counties
(Istria, Krapina-Zagorje, Zagreb, and Vukovar-Srijem). The physicochemical
parameters analyzed included: water content, electrical conductivity, pH value,
diastase activity, presence of HMF (hydroxymethylfurfural), specific rotation, color, and
the determination of sugars such as fructose, glucose, xylose, sucrose, maltose,
melezitose and raffinose, as well as the ratio and total of fructose and glucose. The
range of ivy pollen grains varied from 51 to 98%, indicating that all samples were
unifloral (> 45%). The average water content was 17.9%, electrical conductivity 0.50
mS/cm, pH value 4.10, diastase activity 31.6 DN, HMF content 1.20 mg/kg, honey color
62 mm Pfund (light amber), with an average fructose content of 35.48 g/100 g and
glucose 38.31 g/100 g. In the current scientific and professional literature, there is
almost no data on this rare type of honey, hence this research significantly contributes
to the description of its physicochemical and sensory properties
Karakterizacija organske tvari tla upotrebom FTIR-ATR spektroskopije
Soil plays a critical role in food production, carbon sequestration, and climate regulation. Ensuring soil security aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and is essential for global sustainability. Soil organic matter (SOM) is an important indicator of soil quality and plays a multifaceted role in soil functionality. However, the heterogeneous nature of SOM makes it highly vulnerable to climate change, that can affect the composition and stability of SOM. Therefore, advancing soil assessment techniques is crucial for protecting soil resources. Infrared spectroscopy (IR), as a non-destructive method, is of great importance for detecting changes in soil dynamic properties such as SOM. Fourier transform infrared-attenuated total reflectance (FTIR-ATR) spectroscopy is a powerful tool for SOM characterization, providing insights into SOM functional groups and their degree of humification. The aim of this study is to evaluate the applicability of FTIR-ATR spectroscopy in characterizing SOM in different soil types in Croatia, including a comparative assessment of two FTIR-ATR spectrometers to evaluate their performance. The soil types examined were Luvisol, Regosol acric, Gleysol vertic, Dystric Stagnosol and Chernozem, which differ in various soil indicators including organic matter content (OM), pH, total nitrogen (TN), plant available phosphorus (PAL) and potassium (KAL), and clay content. According to our findings, FTIR-ATR spectroscopy provided insights into the hydrophilic fraction of SOM. However strong absorbance bands attributed to minerals and other inorganic constituents of soils masked distinct SOM constituents, highlighting the need for advanced chemometric modelling techniques for fingerprinting SOM composition using FTIR-ATR spectroscopy.Tlo igra ključnu ulogu u proizvodnji hrane, sekvestraciji ugljika i regulaciji klime.
Monitoring of the flight of olive kernel borer by developing and using model based on artificial neural networks
Olive kernel borer (Prays oleae Bern ard, 1788) is one of the most significant pests of olive tree.
In olive groves, it can cause damage of large economic proportions , commonly in form of fruit
drop, weaker yield, or stagnant tree growth . To detect its presence in the field as soon as
possible, an automatic model based on the image recognition of image content using artificial
neural networks is used. By setting up phe romone based traps, collecting and photographing
samples of adult P. oleae, annotating photographs and teaching a neural network to use them,
an automatic model is developed for tracking olive kernel borer individuals. Besides the species
P. oleae , the mod el was taught to recognize other pests as well as other elements of proposed
images. The accuracy of recognition of the adult moths was 59 compared to visual inspection
of proposed photographs and was higher that the accuracy of recognition of other pest s and
other elements on photographs of adhesive panels
Index of mycoses and pseudomycoses on Croatian fruit species - etiology, horology and pathonymy
The fruit species of Croatia host a large number of mycoses, many of which have been recorded and described in various types of works, but their list has not been compiled so far. By searching books by Croatian authors and using the "Index Fungorum" database, an Index of all mycoses and pseudomycoses recorded so far in our country was compiled, which includes etiology (causal fungi), horology (distribution) and the pathonymy (name), as well as their systematic affiliation, ordered according to host species. The paper describes 229 mycoses on 29 fruit species, of which the most mycoses are on grapevines (19), citrus fruits (14) and cherries (14), and the least on rose hips (1), mulberries (2) and jujube (3). The main problem is manifested in the fact that there are a large number of synonyms for most of the phytopathogens of the disease. Therefore, this work aims to increase the availability of precise information among experts, producers, and, in general, agronomists who encounter different disease names that have constantly changed over the years
Effect of inactive dry yeasts on aromatic profile of cv.
aromatski profil i senzorna svojstva vina sorte 'Pošip'. Poznato je da oksidacija vrlo brzo dovodi
do degradacije primarnih i sekundarnih aroma. Inaktivni kvasci posjeduju sposobnost
apsorpcije kisika te sprječavaju oksidaciju spojeva arome. Djelotvornost IDY pripravaka
tretmana Pošip-SO2 bolje ocijenjeno, a pozitivna uloga IDY nije potvđena. This research paper investigates the influence of inactive yeasts (IDY) on the physicochemical
composition, preservation of the aromatic profile and sensory properties of the ‘Pošip’ wine.
It is known that oxidation very quickly leads to the degradation of primary and secondary
aromas. Inactive yeasts can absorb oxygen and prevent the oxidation of aroma compounds.
The effectiveness of IDY preparations is attributed to glutathione and other compounds found
in yeast cells. The research was carried out with two treatments, Pošip-SO2 and Pošip-PL with
the use of commercial oenological IDY preparation. The research results showed that there
were significant differences in the aromatic profile of wines from different treatments.
Differences were also observed in the sensory properties of the wine, whereby the wine PošipSO2
was rated better and the positive role of IDY was not confirmed
Invasive plant species of anthropogenic and semi-natural habitats in the area of the city of Zagreb
Vrste s najvećim populacijama su Ambrosia artemisiifolia L., Artemisia verlotiorum Lamotte, Conyza canadensis (L.) Cronquist, Erigeron annuus (L.) Pers. ssp. strigosus (Mühlenb. ex Willd.) Wagenitz, Parthenocissus quinquefolia (L.) Planchon i Solidago gigantea Aiton. Pronalaskom vrsta: Ailanthus altissima (Mill.) Spatial changes such as habitat fragmentation and degradation cause the creation of new habitat types with unique ecological conditions and altered flora composition. The expansion of cities and traffic routes, which primarily cause these phenomena, leads to the introduction of non-native invasive flora into urban ecosystems, which have proven to be the main medium of their transmission, naturalization and spread. The only more harmful cause of the destruction of biodiversity apart from these processes is the direct destruction of the habitat, which speaks of the seriousness of this situation. Research shows that climate changes of some kind will make them even more harmful, so it is very important to monitor them and, if possible, prevent further penetration. Previous studies in larger cities show a high prevalence of invasive species. This work documented 16 invasive plant species in four selected locations of anthropogenic and semi-natural habitats. The results showed that on the total area of all four locations, there are 11.7 invasive plant species per km2, which is significantly more invasive species compared to cities like Sisak, Zadar, Šibenik and Split. With a representation of 50%, the Asteraceae family has the most representatives of invasive flora, while more than half of the species are of American origin, which is in accordance with the data for the entire invasive flora of Croatia. Among life forms, hemicryptophytes and therophytes dominate, while phanerophytes and geophytes are the least represented. The species Ambrosia artemisiifolia L. and Solidago gigantea Aiton were inventoried at all four locations. The species with the largest populations are Ambrosia artemisiifolia L., Artemisia verlotiorum Lamotte, Conyza canadensis (L.) Cronquist, Erigeron annuus (L.) Pers. ssp. strigosus (Mühlenb. ex Willd.) Wagenitz, Parthenocissus quinquefolia (L.) Planchon and Solidago gigantea Aiton. By finding the species: Ailanthus altissima (Mill.) Swingle, Amaranthus retroflexus L., Bidens frondosa L. and Reynoutria japonica Houtt. only in urban areas of the city was it proven that the floristic composition differs in urban and suburban areas of the city, that is, between anthropogenic and semi-natural habitats of the city of Zagreb
Kvantifikacija organske tvari u urbanim tlima na području grda Zagreba primjenom vidljive i blisko-infracrvene spektroskopije
Soil organic matter (SOM) is a fundamental constituent of soil, and its accurate quantification
is essential for understanding anthropogenic changes and guiding effective urban management.
Visible and near-infrared (Vis-NIR) spectroscopy has been utilized to measure SOM content in
diverse land use system offering a time and cost-effective method. However, limited research
has been conducted to explore the relationships between SOM and spectral data in urban soils.
This study aims to evaluate the capability of Vis-NIR spectroscopy to assess SOM in the urban
environment of Zagreb, addressing the specific challenges posed by urban areas and developing
a spectral model dedicated to accurately predicting SOM changes in these soils. A total of 150
soil samples were collected from various land-use systems within the city of Zagreb and
analysed for SOM content using the Walkley-Black method. The reflectance spectra were
measured using a Vis-NIR spectroradiometer (Spectral Evolution SR2500, USA) instrument in
the range from 350 to 2500 nm in the laboratory. Prediction models for SOM content were
developed using partial least square regressions (PLSR) combined with reflectance spectrum
pre-processing methods, including band clipping, Savitzky-Golay smoothing, and Standard
Normal Variate (SNV) transformation. Key wavelengths for predicting SOM were identified
for visible region 350 to 700 nm and for near-infrared region 700 to 2500 nm. The models
achieved an r-squared (R²) of 0.96, root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.35, ratio of
performance to deviation (RPD) of 5.40 demonstrating Vis-NIR spectroscopy's reliability in
predicting SOM in urban soils, supporting better urban planning and environmental monitoring.
razumijevanje antropogenih promjena i učinkovitog upravljanja urbanim zemljištem. Vidljiva i
različitim sustavima korištenja urbanog zemljišta, nudeći vremenski i troškovno učinkovitu
metodu.
i spektralnih podataka u urbanim tlima.
Spektri refleksije
mjereni su instrumentom Vis-NIR spektroradiometrom (Spectral Evolution SR2500, SAD) u
rasponu od 350 do 2500 nm u laboratoriju. Modeli predviđanja za sadržaj SOM-a razvijeni su
korištenjem djelomičnih regresija najmanjih kvadrata (PLSR) u kombinaciji s metodama
prethodne obrade spektra refleksije, uključujući isječak spektralnih vrpci, Savitzky-Golayevo
izglađivanje i transformaciju standardne normalne varijacije (SNV).
pokazujući pouzdanost Vis-NIR spektroskopije u predviđanju SOM-a u urbanim tlima,
podržavajući bolje urbano planiranje i praćenje okoliša
The most important bacterial diseases of hunting dogs
Hunting dogs are very often exposed to various bacterial diseases due to their movements in forest areas hunting wild animals. Bacterial diseases are present in the environment, but wild animals can also carry the infection and pass it on to dogs. The most common bacterial diseases affecting hunting dogs are: leptospirosis, brucellosis, salmonellosis, yersiniosis, bacterial dermatitis and bacterial diseases transmitted by ticks. In addition to dogs, diseases are also dangerous for humans because zoonoses are a group of infectious diseases that are common to humans and certain animal species, and can be transmitted from animals to humans and from humans to animals. The vectors do not have to be only wild animals, they can also be domestic animals. It is very important to react in a timely manner, determine the source of infection, diagnosis and prevent the spread of the disease, but also treat the infected animal correctly in order to avoid fatal outcomes. Nowadays, various researches and the development of medicine have been greatly expanded, so diseases whose treatment and implementation of preventive measures are very successful are discovered very often and in a timely manner. With a timely reaction, bacterial diseases are in most cases treated without major consequences for humans and animals
The influence of the season on the microbiological quality of milk in Bjelovar-bilogora county
kakvoću finalnog proizvoda i cijenu mlijeka.
određene razlike u broju mikroorganizama u kravljem mlijeku između sezona, no razlike nisu
statistički značajne.Microbiological quality is one of the most important parameters of milk, which directly
affects the quality of the final product and the price of milk. Since the microbiological quality
of milk is determined by many factors, the aim is to explore the influence of the season on
the above- mentioned characteristic of milk quality will be studied. Data on the total
number of microorganisms in milk were provided by the Central Laboratory for Milk Quality
Control, and data on climate indicators during the observed three-year period in BjelovarBilogora
County were taken from the Croatian State Hydrometeorological Institute. The
analysis of the collected indicators showed some seasonality in the number of
microorganisms in cow milk, but the differences are not statistically significant
