Perceptions of support staffs on English usage at the workplace / Samsiah Bidin and Aishah Musa
Much has been said that universities in Malaysia have to increase the intake of foreign students. One of the purposes is to rank Malaysian universities among the top World Class Universities. Due to this, there is a growing
concern of the use of English language at the public universities especially among the support staff. Hence, this study was conducted to find out the perceptions of the support staff at the Malaysian public universities at the
Northern Region regarding English usage by examining the workers’ needs and actual use of language at the workplace, the workers’ wants, and the workers’ lacks in English language. It was found that English is not necessary
for the support staff in performing their duties. However, English is more needed for personal usage. It is hope that the findings of this study will provide insights to employers to better manage the workplace literacy particularly when English is concern
The effect of laser irradiation on the viability of breast cancer cell, MDA-MB-231
Laser phototherapy is used in the breast cancer clinical treatment, despite the limited safety information of laser irradiation effect on the cancer cell behavior. This study contributed on the development of guidelines for safer laser usage in treating breast cancer and minimizing the possibility of activating post-mastectomy lymphedema

Ablation on polymethylmethacrylate by argon fluoride excimer laser
Laser ablation with pulsed uv laser such as excimer laser enables fine micromachining of a variety of optical materials, including organic material. Polymer (organic material) is always been the subject of interest in laser ablation research field. The aim of the research is to analyze the ablation effect on the organic material. Uv light from arf excimer laser was utilized as a source of ablation. The fundamental wavelength of uv light is 193 nm with pulse duration of 12 ns. Pmma was employed as polymer specimen. The target was exposed at variable time of exposure in the range of 5 s to 50 s. The exposed material was analysed using atr-ftir spectrometer. The results obtained showed that the chemical bonding of pmma have been weakened due to the photochemical mechanism. Consequently, this results increases the refractive index of pmma. However, at longer exposure or large number of exposure the physical changes become unstabl
Surface treatment on polymethylmethacrylate hybrid using argon flouride excimer laser
Flatness and smoothness of optical components are crucial to maintain the uniformity of light distribution. However, to treat a very delicate surface require, a controllable and gentle technique. This can be achieved by using ultraviolet laser as a micromaching. In this case, an argon fluoride excimer laser was employed as a source of ablation. Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) film is coated on a Perspex substrate. Fabry-Perot interferometer was incorporated as a dynamic transducer to monitor the surface treatment. The Hybrid plastic-polymer was then ablated by series pulses of UV excimer laser. The pulses are controlled until the appearance of straight and equidistance line fringes. The degree of flatness achieved by using this laser surface treatment is ?/10
