AUTHENTIC SKEPTICISM: THE DELINEATION OF A DIALECTICAL COUNTERPART TO POSITIVE EPISTEMOLOGY

S obzirom na brojna izdanja kojima je skepticizam predmet, bilo da se radi o pregledima, kritičkim osvrtima, ili obranama i zagovaranju skepticizma, čini se kako je riječ o jednoj od onih tradicija čiji je naziv dio osnovnog pojmovlja filozofije, te je time općepoznat; naime, čini se kako bi mnogi, ako ne i svi koji se bave filozofijom ustvrdili kako su upoznati sa ovom tradicijom ili barem jednim od njezinih brojnih dijelova, te kako ne bi bili u neprilici kada bi se od njih tražila definicija 'skepticizma'. Moglo bi se, utoliko, zaključiti kako još jedna studija o skepticizmu nije potrebna. MeĎutim, često u odnošenju spram onoga što se čini poznatim i bliskim izostane temeljito razmatranje i propitivanje; pa je preispitivanje baš tog poznatog i bliskog dobrodošlo. Upravo je postojanje višestrukih opisa onoga što se podvlači pod naslov 'skepticizam' u opsežnoj literaturi poslužilo kao poticaj pisanju ove disertacije. U kakofoniji glasova o skepticizmu, za i protiv skepticizma, ova disertacija je prvenstveno rezultat potrage za pojmovnom jasnoćom, te predstavlja pokušaj uspostavljanja harmonije u odnošenjima sa ovom tradicijom.Common traits identified through a critique of those arguments which serve as paradigm cases in the prevailing distinction between two types of skepticism in this dissertation serve as a stepping stone to a different interpretation of skeptical approach in philosophy. The interpretation primarily draws on authentic commitment to skepsis, inquiry, inherent to all original skeptical arguments, and thus represents a reading of skepticism based on genuine appreciation of the proclaimed aim to skeptical argumentation, which is to serve as a dialectical counterweight to that which is determined. As such, the reading of skepticism offered is far removed from those interpretations in which skepticism is portrayed as a theory of ignorance or negative dogmatism. Through the prism of traits identified in delineation of authentic skeptical approach, this study further investigates the causes and consequences of these latter interpretations, specifically in the form in which they appear in philosophical discourse of 20th century epistemology and epistemology of the day

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ONLINE RATING, HOTEL STAR CATEGORY AND ROOM PRICING POWER

In the digital way of doing business we see a substantial rise of online customer feedback and customer information sharing communities. The role and importance of social media has considerably increased in the past several years and businesses can no longer overlook its impact. For companies, the acceptance of such sources are not only tangential rather they are becoming central in how they approach their operations. Numerous web based platforms that include social networking, online communities and review sites are critical reference points for companies while deciding how to structure and price their products and services. The tourism and hospitality industry is no exception to this phenomenon, as a matter of fact, it is at the very forefront of this new trend that we are observing. Some of these sites are more popular than others, such as TripAdvisor, Booking.com, Travelocity or Expedia but all of them affect how service providers conduct their business, specifically in the area of pricing. The aim of this paper is to examine and quantify the relationship between customer online rating, hotel category and room pricing power in hotel industry. Findings suggest that there is a statistically significant relationship between hotel star category, online rating and service provider’s room pricing power. Moreover, results indicate a strong correlation between TripAdvisor and Booking.com online customer reviews, suggesting that contrary to popular beliefs, TripAdvisor is as reliable as Booking.com

Career Development and Personal Success Profile of Students - Followers and Students - Potential Future Leaders: The Case of RIT Croatia

This study examines the differences among students in terms of self-reported leadership characteristics. It was conducted among all three programs and four generations of undergraduates at RIT Croatia. The goal of this study is to determine the differences among students who report being more and less leadership prone (Potential Future Leaders and Followers, respectively) with regard to demographic characteristics, reported self reliance socialization pattern, college level and program choice, career focus attainment and development, and reported attitudes regarding the importance of specific personality traits in leadership, the importance of specific career development factors and success indicators. Research showed that generation and college program are not related to student reported leadership proneness, suggesting that college education’s impact on leadership traits is not significant. Only one socio-demographic factor considered was significantly different between clusters; namely, the respondents who had moved once were significantly more represented in the Potential Future Leaders cluster, suggesting that study-abroad programs might play a role in leadership development. In terms of ranking career development factors, success indicators, the importance of emotional stability and openness to experience as a specific leadership trait, Potential Future Leaders reported higher scores in comparison with Followers cluster, potentially resulting from their forwardlooking, goal-oriented attitude

Prisdiskriminering : teori og og praktisk anvendelse

Oppgaven formål er å undersøke Lord of the Rings Online og Free-2-Play hybridmodellen. Caset undersøkes i lys av teori omkring prisdiskriminering, hvor det følgende blir undersøkt: - Nødvendige forhold som muliggjør prisdiskriminering - De prisdiskrimineringsstrategier som er blitt benyttet Det ble konstatert at de nødvendige forholdene, som heterogenitet, markedsmakt, redusering av mulighetene for videresalg og overvåkning av kundenes kjøp, var til stede og prisdiskrimineringsstrategier som kvantumsrabatter, kvalitetsforskjeller, mixed- og pure bundling er blitt benyttet. Det ble også konstatert et tilfelle av Coase conjecture-problemet som er blitt omgått ved hjelp av kvalitetsforskjeller. Undertegnede stiller seg kritisk til et par punkter i modellen. Pure bundling er blitt benyttet og det mangler et insentiv for større kjøp av Turbine Points
