    Gender Differences in Use of Electronic Resources in University Libraries of Adamawa State, Nigeria

    The study investigated gender difference in attitudes of students towards the use of electronic resources in university libraries of Adamawa State, Nigeria. Gender issue has become a widely discussed phenomenon in higher education sector. How has gender affected the use of electronic information resources among students since this format of resources has become commonly available in university libraries? It is against this background that the researchers investigated how gender difference has affected the attitudes of students towards the use of these resources. The objectives of the study were to determine the types of e-resources, use of e-resources, purpose of using e-resources, how students acquire their search skills, and whether there is significant difference between male and female students’ attitudes towards the use of e-resources in the university libraries under study. Survey research was used. The target population was 5,269 students and a sample of 1,053 out of which 724 responded to the questionnaire which comprises of 496 male students and 228 female students that were used for the study. Descriptive and inferential statistics (t-test) was used for the analysis of data collected. The major findings revealed that the resources are used mainly for research and assignments. Students acquire theirs search skills through friends and colleagues and library instructions. There exists statistical difference between male and female students’ attitudes towards the use of e-resources. The mean value of 23.5302 for male students is greater than that of female 21.4693 Recommendations made include: sustaining the acquisition of e-resources, periodic training of students and female students should develop positive attitudes towards the use of e-resources to enhance their academic pursuits

    Citation Analysis of Authorship and Articles Characterization in Technology and Development: A Journal of Scientific and Technological Research

    The study examined citation analysis of authors and articles characterization in the Technology and Development: a Journal of scientific and technological research, Federal University of Technology Yola. It focused on number of articles in each volume, references cited, levels of authors’ collaborations, subjects covered, authors’ institutional affiliations and geographical location of the authors. The study revealed that a total of 96 articles were published in the five volumes (1991-1995), a total of 1421 references were cited from different sources of information. Single authored articles ranked highest followed by two authors articles. Majority of the authors are from universities 148(92.50%). The natural sciences received the highest coverage 46 (47.42%). The journal had received a wider spread geographically but, prominently from Yola 50 (31.65%). It is recommended that the management of the journal should also work towards its initial frequency of publication to remain current and strengthen its spread to cover wider international contributors for exchange of knowledge and ideas

    Effects of corporate culture on the implementation of automation in libraries of Federal Universities in the North East Zone of Nigeria

    This study Surveyed Corporate Culture components of Attitudes, Beliefs and Assumptions on the Implementation of Automation in Libraries of Federal Universities in the North East Zone of Nigeria. The objectives of the study were to determine: the level of implementation of automation of libraries in federal universities of the north- east zone of Nigeria, the perception of library staff on the effect of corporate culture of Attitudes, Beliefs and Assumptions on the implementation of automation in libraries of federal universities of the north-east zone of Nigeria. One research question was raised, and three null hypotheses were tested. Survey Method was used where structured questionnaire was administered on one hundred and twenty-five [125] professional and non-professional library staff members of the three federal universities under study (Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi, Modibbo Adama University of Technology Yola and, University of Maiduguri) as population for the study. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics to answer the research question where chi-square was used to test the null hypotheses. The findings of the research question revealed that, implementation of automation in libraries of federal universities in the north east zone of Nigeria was very low. The tested null hypotheses revealed that, corporate culture components of Attitudes, Beliefs and Assumptions were significant. The researchers therefore recommend among others that, Federal Universities in the North East Zone of Nigeria should be opened in their policies so as to involve library staff in planning and execution of implementation of automation in their respective libraries; the Federal Universities in the North East Zone of Nigeria should encourage and motivate library staff so as to change their attitudes against implementation of an automated system, etc.Keywords: implementation, library automation, corporate culture, beliefs, attitudes, assumption
