This report, commissioned by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF), supported by the Bank of America Merrill Lynch, is designed to provide an overview of the evidence-base underpinning careers education and its impact on pupils’ skills and outcomes. We define careers education as: 'Careers-focused school- or college-mediated provision designed to improve students' education, employment and/or social outcomes.' The main questions addressed by this report include: • What intervention research has been carried out since the year 1996 measuring the impact of careers education on improving young people’s outcomes? • What is the strength of evidence of this research? • Where are the research gaps that need to be addressed? Furthermore, this review aims to identify which interventions might be most appropriate to implement in the UK context to better support careers education, and in turn improve educational, economic, or social outcomes for young people

The research outlined in this report forms part of the British Academy’s important flagship project on the skills inherent to the study of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (AHSS), their value to the individual, and the contribution they do make and could make in future to society, as well as those that are important for educators of AHSS students. Much has been reported on the skills of certain types of graduates, most notably STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), often overlooking the skills of graduates specialising in other fields of study. This project will contribute to a deeper understanding of current AHSS skills and any skills gaps, those skills which may need modernising or updating, and the kinds of skills required by AHSS graduates in the future

This report presents the findings of the second part of the research.JRC.J.3-Information Societ
