    Changes in the structure of talc by continuous jet milling in relation to imposed specific kinetic energy

    Ultra fine talc is used in many industries such as paper, paints, polymers, cosmetics and pharmaceutical. Emerging demand with stringent specification from these industries has marked jet mill as one of the essential grinding mill to produce ultra fine talc. Ultra fine grinding testwork of talc was carried out in opposed fluidized bed jet mill by varying the feed rate, classifier rotational speed and grinding pressure at three levels. In this jet mill, grinding and classification took place simultaneously. The ground products were characterized in terms of particle size distribution and mechanochemical effect via X-ray diffraction. The ground product exhibited poly-modal distribution and the minimum size obtained was 4.28 µm at 4 kg/h, 13000 rpm and 4 bar. Besides size reduction in micron range, mechanochemical effect was exhibited by the product ground in jet mill as jet mill is classified as high-energy mill. Reduction in peak intensity and peak base broadening was observed which indicates fine grinding process in jet mill induced mechanochemical effect. Furthermore preferential distortion of (00l) planes was observed as well. The degree of crystallinity of ground sample, which ranged from 26.5% to 85.3% reduces as the specific kinetic energy increase and its reduction gradient varies according to the classifier rotational speed. The crystallite size and lattice strain of talc ranged from 147.69 nm to 353.72 nm and 0.08 to 0.2 respectively

    Tujuan kajian ini ialah untuk mengenalpasti pertalian diantara kompetensi keusahawanan dalam konteks strategik dengan struktur organisasi dan prestasi Perusahaan Kecil dan Sederhana di Utara Semenanjung Malaysia. Sebanyak 191 buah syarikat PKS telah menjawab soal selidik yang telah diedarkan.Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kuantitatif menerusi pendekatn tinjauan keratan rentas.Teknik persampelan rawak berkadaran strata digunakan untuk menentukan kerangka persampelan. Data yang diperolehi telah dianalisa menggunakan Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) versi 22.Keputusan menunjukkan bahawa terdapat perhubungan yang signifikan diatara kompetensi operasi dan prestasi PKS yang dikaji. Dengan mengunakan kaedah regresi berhirarki didapati struktur organisasi berbentuk mekanistik telah menyederhanakan perhubungan diatara kompetensi strategik dan prestasi secara positif.Implikasi dari keputusan kajian ini telah dibincangkan selanjutnya

    Design and Built a Prototype Kit for Fire Detection in a Peat Swamp Forest: A Preliminary Results

    Peat forest fire detectors need to be developed immediately due to the frequency of peat forest fires in Malaysia during the summer is very high which can affect the life in the forest and the health of the surrounding population. Among them is the Ayer Hitam Muar Forest Reserve, Johor which is almost 50,000 acres in size and experiences fires every year. However, fire monitoring management methods still need to be improved in terms of speed, accuracy and systematic in channelling fire alerts. Apart from location and area factors, the main challenge of the early fire detection process is the lack of manpower for the purpose of monitoring and notification of fires. The conventional method through patrols and phone calls from farmers who see a fire is less effective because of the delay in notification received by the authorities. Initially, the work of identifying the location of the fire and measuring the signal strength of the telco service in the Forest Reserve was done with the help of rangers from the Muar district forestry department. This article proposes a propotype for detecting peat forest fires that is capable of monitoring and sending early fire notifications using a smartphone. The prototype uses an ESP32 microcontroller, GSM/GPRS modem and industry-standard sensors which include smoke, temperature, humidity and motion detectors. A total of five prototype units were developed as sensor nodes (SN) 1 to 5 with unique IDs that can send information to UTHM web servers simultaneously. Data from each SN is displayed in real time while notifications of smoke detection and motion alerts are sent to the authorities via Telegram application. Solar panels are used as a source of electricity supply while the authorities can access information via smartphones. This prototype was tested to see its stability and operational accuracy while the data obtained were recorded. The developed system can help the authorities detect fires at an early stage and the location of the fire can be known based on the SN information received on the smartphone screen
