    EXAMINING THE UNIVERSITY SPORTS ENVIRONMENT: A STUDY ON TURKISH UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

    While studies have been conducted to determine the social-emotional development and learning outcomes associated with participation in sports facilities, very few studies have been conducted on the university sports environment. It is important to know why university recreation centers are important for student life and to understand what benefits students derive from the program as a whole (Miller, 2011). For this reason, our study aims to examine the attitudes of Turkish students towards university sports environments. In the research, the university sports environment scale developed by Shin, Chiu and Lee (2018) and adapted into Turkish by Yılmaz and Esentürk (2020) was used. Homogeneity and cronbach alpha reliability analysis were performed on the measurement tool. After these analyses, an independent t-test for paired groups and Anova test (Benferoni) for groups of three or more were performed. SPSS program was used for these analyses. In addition, FDR analysis was performed with Graphpad Prism 9 program to avoid type I error.     Effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on barriers to middle-aged adults' participation in physical activity in Turkey: a cross-sectional study

    Background: Physical inactivity is one of the greatest problems facing the world today. The purpose of this study was to examine the level of barriers to physical activity for middle-aged adults during the COVID-19. Methods: Using an online survey, a sample of the Turkish population (n = 432: 48.6% female, 51.4% male; mean age 57.3 years) answered questions about sociodemographic characteristics as well as barriers to participation in physical activity during COVID-19 process. A scale of barriers to physical activity was used to determine the barriers to physical activity faced by the participants COVID-19 process. Since the data were homogeneously distributed across binary groups, independent t-tests and ANOVAs were performed for groups of three or more. In addition, if there were significant differences in the results of the ANOVA, Tukey's post hoc test was also applied. The data were analyzed using SPSS Version 22.0. (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA). Results: According to the findings of this study, barriers to physical activity increase significantly as perceived health status decreases, and women's barriers to physical activity, participation are greater than those of men, and increase with age. At the same time, the strongest relationship was found for environmental factors. In addition, important results were found for the personal and social environment dimensions, and we also found that barriers to physical activity increase significantly with age. Conclusions: Finally, we determined that the barriers to physical activity for individuals with COVID-19 were significantly greater at the personal level compared to those who did not have COVID-19. That is the COVID-19 process negatively affected participation in physical activity

    From The Bottom To The Top: Class And Gender Struggle In Brontë’s Jane Eyre

    The Victorian era, which refers to the nineteenth century in the British history, was the period of industrial revolution, which gave birth to many changes in the British politics, economy and culture. It was in this period of time that class and gender were mostly on the foreground. And it was the women who suffered more than men from these class and gender-based cultural norms. Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre revolves around the title character’s struggle against class and gender oppressions as an orphan from her childhood till her adulthood. The protagonist is born into the Victorian society with double disadvantages as a female orphan. However, she does not fit into the Victorian concept of “the Angel in the House”. While creating this kind of character, Brontë draws contrast between her protagonist and the other female characters throughout the novel. Jane’s cousins Eliza and Georgiana and her aunt Mrs. Reed at Gateshead; Miss Temple and Helen at Lowood; Adele and Blanche Ingram at Thornfield; her cousins Mary and Diana at Marsh End represent the Victorian concept of “woman”. Also, at each of her stations, let it be from either middle class or upper class, Jane encounters a man, who represents patriarchy. Her cousin John Reed at Gateshead, Mr. Brocklehurst at Lowood, Mr. Rochester at Thornfield, and Mr. Rivers at Marsh End all represent patriarchy. In her journey from Gateshead, Lowood, Thornfield, Marsh End to Ferndean, Jane goes against the grains of her period. She discerns that there is a false association between classes and virtues. She achieves getting over the class and gender boundaries in the end at Ferndean by climbing the ladder from bottom to the top.     BİREYLERİN FİZİKSEL AKTİVİTEYE KATILIM DURUMLARINA GÖRE MUTLULUK VE DUYGUSAL DÜZENLEMEDE ÖZ-YETERLİK DÜZEYLERİNİN İNCELENMESİ

    Bu çalışmanın amacı, bireylerin fiziksel aktiviteye katılım durumlarına göre mutluluk ve duygusal düzenlemede öz-yeterlik düzeylerinin incelenmesidir. Araştırmada nicel araştırmalardan ilişkisel yöntem tercih edilmiştir. Araştırmanın evrenini Ankara ilindeki yetişkin bireyler oluştururken, örneklemini ise seçkisiz örnekleme yöntemlerinden kolayda örnekleme yöntemi ile seçilen 177 erkek, 213 kadın katılımcı olmak üzere toplam 390 kişi oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama araçlarımız üç bölümden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmanın ilk bölümü olan kişisel bilgi formunda 6 soru bulunmaktadır. İkinci bölümünde ise, Akın ve ark., (2014) tarafından bireylerin duygusal öz-yeterlik düzeylerinin ölçülmesi amacıyla geliştirilen 5’li likert tipi bir ölçektir. Üçüncü bölümse ise, Hills ve Argyle (2002) geliştirdiği, Doğan ve Akıncı-Çötok’un Türkçeye uyarladığı Oxford Mutluluk Ölçeği Kısa Formu kullanılmıştır. Bu ölçek bireylerin mutluluk düzeylerinin incelenmesi amacıyla 7 sorudan oluşan ve 5’li likert tipi bir ölçektir. Verilerin güvenirlik katsayıları hesaplanmış ve normallik değerlerine bakılarak, parametrik testlerden, ikili gruplar için t-testi, çoklu gruplar için anova testi ve ölçekler arası ilişkinin incelenmesi için pearson korelasyon testi uygulanmıştır. Sonuç olarak, mutluluk ve duygusal düzenlemede öz-yeterlik alt boyutlarında pozitif bir ilişki olduğu, bireyin özyeterliliği arttıkça mutluluk düzeyinin de arttığı tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca sonuçlar göstermektedir ki, sıklıkla fiziksel aktivite yapan bireyler daha mutlu ve öz-yeterlik düzeyi yüksek kişilerdir. Guicciardi ve ark. (2019) düzenli fiziksel aktiviteye katılımın bireyin yaşam kalitesini artırarak mutlu ve öz-yeterliliği yüksek olmasına katkı sağladığı sonucuna ulaşarak çalışmamızla paralel bir sonuç elde etmiştir

    Examining mindfulness and moral disengagement in doping: Perspective of Turkish wrestlers

    Introduction: Studies related to attitudes toward the use of prohibited substances in Turkish athletes are scarce. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has implemented anti-doping educational policies emphasizing doping-related education in studies conducted among Turkish wrestlers. However, it is still unclear the extent to which the wrestlers comply and adhere to these anti-doping policies. No research has previously examined the effect of anti-doping education on athletes' mindfulness and moral disengagement in doping (MDD). Therefore, the present study has a two-fold objective: first, to examine whether doping-related education (DRE) and the status of being a national athlete (NA) have an effect on athlete mindfulness and MDD. Second, to analyze the relationship between each sub-dimensions of athlete mindfulness: awareness (ASD), judgment (JSD), and refocus (RSD) with MDD. Methods: A total of 409 male wrestlers participated in this study. MANOVA analysis showed that NA and DRE alone have no effect on MDD but have a general effect on mindfulness. Results: The highest effect was on the ASD of being an NA ((Formula presented.) = 0.173). When the interaction effect of NA*DRE was examined, significant difference in MDD (F = 8.218, p = 0.004), ASD (F = 8.476, p = 0.004), JSD (F = 5.844, p = 0.016), and RSD (F = 11.476, p = 0.001) were found. MDD has a weak negative relationship with ASD (r = ?0.126) and RSD (r = ?0.041) and a weak positive relationship with the JSD sub-dimension (r = 0.140). Those results suggest that being a NA and having received anti-doping education affect moral disengagement in doping and athletes' mindfulness. Discussion: As a conclusion, it is recommended to increase awareness and anti-doping education among national-standard Turkish wrestlers to prevent them from engaging in doping behaviors.     Exploring obesity, physical activity, and digital game addiction levels among adolescents: A study on machine learning-based prediction of digital game addiction

    Primary study aim was defining prevalence of obesity, physical activity levels, digital game addiction level in adolescents, to investigate gender differences, relationships between outcomes. Second aim was predicting game addiction based on anthropometric measurements, physical activity levels. Cross-sectional study design was implemented. Participants aged 9-14 living in Kirikkale were part of the study. The sample of the study consists of 405 adolescents, 231 girls (57%) and 174 boys (43%). Self-reported data were collected by questionnaire method from a random sample of 405 adolescent participants. To determine the physical activity levels of children, the Physical Activity Questionnaire for Older Children (PAQ-C). Digital Game addiction was evaluated with the digital game addiction (DGA) scale. Additionally, body mass index (BMI) status was calculated by measuring the height and body mass of the participants. Data analysis were performed using Python 3.9 software and SPSS 28.0 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, United States) package program. According to our findings, it was determined that digital game addiction has a negative relationship with physical activity level. It was determined that physical activity level had a negative relationship with BMI. In addition, increased physical activity level was found to reduce obesity and DGA. Game addiction levels of girl participants were significantly higher than boy participants, and game addiction was higher in those with obesity. With the prediction model obtained, it was determined that age, being girls, BMI and total physical activity (TPA) scores were predictors of game addiction. The results revealed that the increase in age and BMI increased the risk of DGA, and we found that women had a 2.59 times greater risk of DGA compared to men. More importantly, the findings of this study showed that physical activity was an important factor reducing DGA 1.51-fold. Our prediction model Logit (P) = 1/(1 + exp(-(-3.384 + Age*0.124 + Gender-boys*(-0.953) + BMI*0.145 + TPA*(-0.410)))). Regular physical activity should be encouraged, digital gaming hours can be limited to maintain ideal weight. Furthermore, adolescents should be encouraged to engage in physical activity to reduce digital game addiction level. As a contribution to the field, the findings of this study presented important results that may help in the prevention of adolescent game addiction

    Bu araştırmanın amacı, farklı sektörlerdeki spor tesisi çalışanlarının, örgüt kültürü algıları ile iş tatmini düzeylerinin tespiti, demografik değişkenler açısından karşılattırılması ve aralarındaki ilişkinin belirlenmesidir. İlişkisel tarama modelinde olan çalışmaya İstanbul Anadolu yakasında, özel spor işletmeleri ile yerel yönetimlere ait spor tesislerinde çalışan 303 katılmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak, Spector (1985) tarafından geliştirilen ve Meydan (2010) tarafından Türkçeye uyarlanan İş Tatmini Ölçeği ve Ogbonna& Haris (2000) tarafından geliştirilen ve Karadeniz (2010) tarafından Türkçeye uyarlaması yapılan Örgüt Kültürü Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Araştırma verilerinin değerlendirilmesinde istatistikî yöntem olarak frekans, yüzde dağılımları, İkili gruplar için t-testi, çoklu gruplar için OneWay-ANOVA analizleri ve ilişkiyi belirlemek için Pearson Korelasyon analizi kullanılmıştır. Varyansların homojen olmadığı durumda ise Kruskal Wallis testi hesaplanmıştır. Sonuç olarak katılımcıların yüksek düzeyde örgüt kültürü algısına sahip oldukları yarışmacı ve yenilikçi kültür alt boyutlarının daha belirgin olduğu tespit edilmiştir. İş tatmini düzeylerinin ise orta düzeyde olduğu belirlenmiştir. Korelasyon analizi sonucunda örgüt kültürü ile iş tatmini arasında pozitif yönde orta düzeyde bir ilişki saptanmıştır. İş tatmini ile örgüt kültürü alt boyutları arasında en yüksek ilişki yarışmacı kültür alt boyutundadır. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgular demografik değişkenler açısından incelendiğinde evli olan, yönetici pozisyonunda olan, hizmet yılı düşük olan, yerel sektöründe çalışan, çalıştığı iş yeri sayısının 3 olan katılımcıların örgüt kültürü yüksek çıkmıştır. İş tatmini ölçeğinde elde edilen puanlara göre ise evli olan, yönetici pozisyonunda olan ve yerel sektöründe olan katılımcıların daha yüksek olduğu görülmektedir.The aim of this research is to determine the organizational culture perceptions and job satisfaction levels of sports facility employees in different sectors, to compare them in terms of demographic variables and to determine the relationship between them. The study, which is based on the relational screening model, was conducted in the vicinity of Anatolian city of Istanbul, special sports enterprises and sports facilities belonging to local administrations. The Job Satisfaction Scale developed by Spector (1985) and adapted to Turkish by Meydan (2010) and the Organizational Culture Scale developed by Ogbonna & Haris (2000) and adapted to Turkish by Karadeniz (2010) were used as data collection tools. Frequency, percentage distributions, t-test for binary groups, OneWay-ANOVA for multiple groups, and Pearson Correlation analysis for relationship were used as statistical methods in the evaluation of research data. If the variances are not homogeneous, the Kruskal Wallis test is calculated. As a result, it was determined that the competitor and innovative culture sub-dimensions of participant's perception of organizational culture at a high level are more prominent. Job satisfaction levels were determined to be moderate. As a result of the correlation analysis, there was a moderate correlation between positive organizational culture and job satisfaction. The highest correlation between job satisfaction and organizational culture sub-dimensions is competitor culture sub-dimension. When the findings obtained from the survey are analyzed in terms of demographic variables, the organizational culture of the participants who are married, in managerial position, in years of service, working in the local sector, According to the scores obtained on the job satisfaction scale, it is seen that the participants who are married, in the managerial position and in the local sector are higher

    YÖK Tez ID: 352840Bu çalışmanın amacı, Angle Sınıf II bölüm 1 maloklüzyonların tedavisinde minivida destekli Fonksiyonel Çekme Apareyinin (FÇA) etkinliğinin değerlendirilmesidir. Bu çalışma, Angle Sınıf II bölüm 1 maloklüzyona sahip, yaş ortalamaları 13 yıl 5 ay olan 6?sı kız, 9?u erkek olmak üzere toplam 15 birey üzerinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmanın materyalini, FÇA uygulanmasından hemen önce ve hemen sonra hastalardan alınan 30 adet lateral sefalometrik film ve 30 adet ortodontik model oluşturmaktadır. Tedavi öncesi ve sonrası değişikliklerin incelenmesi amacıyla 28 adet sefalometrik ve 16 adet model ölçümü olmak üzere toplam 44 parametre ölçülmüştür. Verilerin değerlendirme sonuçları, üst çenenin sagittal yönde büyümesinin etkilenmediğini ve alt çenenin de sagittal yönde büyümeye devam ettiğini göstermiştir. Bununla birlikte, ANB açısı azalmış, alt keserler protrüze olurken, üst keserler retrüze olmuş, alt azılar meziyale, üst azılar ise distale hareket etmiştir. Overjet ve overbite azalmıştır. Sonuç olarak, Fonksiyonel Çekme Apareyi, Sınıf II malokluzyonların tedavisinde etkili bir aygıttır. Minivida desteği de apareyin iskeletsel etkisini artırmıştır. Anahtar kelimeler: Fonksiyonel Çekme Apareyinin (FÇA) Sınıf II malokluzyon tedavisi, Sabit fonksiyonel aparey.The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of functional pull appliance (FPA) on Angle Class II Division 1 Malocclusion therapy. This study was performed on 15 subjects with Angle Class II Division 1 Malocclusion, of whom 6 were female and 9 male and mean age were 13 years and 5 months. The study material consisted of 30 lateral cephalometric films and 30 orthodontic cast models which were taken just before applying Functional Pull Appliance, and after removal of this appliance. To investigate the changes obtained by The Functional Pull Appliance therapy, 44 parameters (28 cephalometric and 16 model measurements) were measured from the cephalometric films and orthodontic models. The results showed that, maxillary sagittal growth was not effected and mandibular sagittal growth was continued. In addition, the ANB angle was decreased, mandibular incisors were proclined and maxillary incisors were retruded, mandibular molars were drifted mesially and maxillary molars were drifted distally. Overjet and overbite were decreased. In conclusion, Functional Pull Appliance is an effective appliance on Class II malocclusion therapy.
