Addemdum to: ''The Mathematical Structure of Quantum Superspace as a Consequence of Time Asymmetry''
In this paper we improve the results of sec. VI of paper [M. Castagnino,
Phys. Rev. D 57, 750 (1998)] by considering that the main source of entropy
production are the photospheres of the stars
Improving domiciliary robotic services by integrating the ASTRO Robot in an AmI Infrastructure
This work describes the ECHORD Experiment ASTROMOBILE, a project aimed to design, develop and test a system for favourable independent living, improved quality of life and efficiency of care for senior citizens in domestic environments. The system, composed of a mobile robotic platform (called ASTRO) and an Ambient Intelligent Infrastructure that actively cooperated between them and with the end-user, was designed and implemented with a user-centred design approach, involving different stakeholders. The system was designed to deliver services to users, like drug delivery, stand support, reminding, info-entertainment. The design took advantages of the integration of robotic platforms with smart environments, to provide to users higher quality and localization based services. Senior end-users were involved in the experimentation of the system in the DomoCasa Living Lab and feedbacks were gathered for the technology assessment. Particularly, this paper demonstrates the general feasibility of the ASTROMOBILE system and thanks to users feedbacks its acceptability and usability
Exogenous miRNAs from Moringa oleifera Lam. recover a dysregulated lipid metabolism
A balanced diet is critical for human health, and edible plants play an important role in providing essential micronutrients as well as specific microRNAs (miRNAs) that can regulate human gene expression. Here we present the effects of Moringa oleifera (MO) miRNAs (mol-miRs) on lipid metabolism. Through in silico studies we identified the potential genes involved in lipid metabolism targeted by mol-miRs. To this end, we tested the efficacy of an aqueous extract of MO seeds (MOES), as suggested in traditional African ethnomedicine, or its purified miRNAs. The biological properties of MO preparations were investigated using a human derived hepatoma cell line (HepG2) as a model. MOES treatment decreased intracellular lipid accumulation and induced apoptosis in HepG2. In the same cell line, transfection with mol-miRs showed similar effects to MOES. Moreover, the effect of the mol-miR pool was investigated in a pre-obese mouse model, in which treatment with mol-miRs was able to prevent dysregulation of lipid metabolism
Chemo-radiotherapy plus durvalumab for loco-regional relapse of resected NSCLC
Background tumor recurrence after NSCLC surgical resection is the most common cause of treatment failure that sharply reduces the patient's life expectancy. The optimal treatment strategy for loco-regional recurrences developing after surgical resection in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is not established yet. This report aims to describe the pattern of relapse, PFS, and OS in patients treated with radio-chemotherapy and durvalumab for loco-regional relapse after surgery. Methods We conducted a multicenter, retrospective study including subjects who underwent surgical resection for NSCLC and were treated with Pacific protocol after loco-regional relapse. Results Twenty-four patients met the inclusion criteria. At the time of diagnosis mean age was 65 years (range 47-78), the majority being male (58.3%). The 12-month progression-free survival rate was 68.7%, the 18-month progression-free survival rate was 45.8%, and the 24-month progression-free survival rate was 34.3%. There were three deaths: the 12-month survival rate was 91%, and the 18-month survival rate was 82.8%. Conclusions In this article, we propose a treatment strategy that might prolong post recurrence survival in patients with good performance status experiencing loco-regional relapse after surgery
Singular shell embedded into a cosmological model
We generalize Israel's formalism to cover singular shells embedded in a
non-vacuum Universe. That is, we deduce the relativistic equation of motion for
a thin shell embedded in a Schwarzschild/Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker
spacetime. Also, we review the embedding of a Schwarzschild mass into a
cosmological model using "curvature" coordinates and give solutions with
(Sch/FLRW) and without the embedded mass (FLRW).Comment: 25 pages, 2 figure
