    On metrical fixed point theorems in symmetric spaces

    The aim of this paper is to obtain some common fixed point theorems for weakly compatible mappings in symmetric spaces satisfying generalized -contractive conditions under the common limit range property. Our results generalize and extend some recent results to symmetric spaces and consequently a host of metrical common fixed theorems are generalized and improved. In the process, we also derive a fixed point theorem for four finite families of self-mappings which can be utilized to derive common fixed point theorems involving any number of finite mappings. Some illustrative examples to highlight the realized improvements are also furnished

    Multiple Pure Tone Noise Prediction

    This paper presents a fully numerical method for predicting multiple pure tones, also known as “Buzzsaw” noise. It consists of three steps that account for noise source generation, nonlinear acoustic propagation with hard as well as lined walls inside the nacelle, and linear acoustic propagation outside the engine. Noise generation is modeled by steady, part-annulus computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. A linear superposition algorithm is used to construct full-annulus shock/pressure pattern just upstream of the fan from part-annulus CFD results. Nonlinear wave propagation is carried out inside the duct using a pseudo-two-dimensional solution of Burgers׳ equation. Scattering from nacelle lip as well as radiation to farfield is performed using the commercial solver ACTRAN/TM. The proposed prediction process is verified by comparing against full-annulus CFD simulations as well as against static engine test data for a typical high bypass ratio aircraft engine with hardwall as well as lined inlets. Comparisons are drawn against nacelle unsteady pressure transducer measurements at two axial locations as well as against near- and far-field microphone array measurements outside the duct. This is the first fully numerical approach (no experimental or empirical input is required) to predict multiple pure tone noise generation, in-duct propagation and far-field radiation.     Anti-anxiety Activity Studies on Homoeopathic Formulations of Turnera aphrodisiaca Ward

    Turnera aphrodisiaca Ward (Turneraceae) has been traditionally used for the treatment of anxiety neurosis, and as an aphrodisiac. Mother tinctures (85% ethanol extracts) of T. aphrodisiaca have also been used for the treatment of central nervous system disorders. In the present investigation, T. aphrodisiaca mother tinctures formulated by three reputed manufacturers of homoeopathic medicines (NLK, DWSG and SBL) were evaluated for their anxiolytic activity. Dried mother tinctures of T. aphrodisiaca were subjected to anxiolytic activity evaluation at various doses, i.e. 50, 75, 100, 125 or 150 mg/kg p.o. in mice using elevated plus maze apparatus. Dried mother tinctures exhibited significant anxiolytic activity at 50 mg/kg (NLK), 75 mg/kg (DWSG) and 125 mg/kg (SBL), respectively, with reference to control as well as standard (diazepam, 2 mg/kg p.o.). Mother tinctures of T. aphrodisiaca available in the market, have significant anxiolytic activity. Amongst the three mother tinctures of T. aphrodisiaca analyzed, the dry residue of NLK possesses the highest amount of anxiolytic constituent(s). To ensure uniformity and consistency of biological effects in herbal formulations, these should be standardized on the basis of bioactive markers. The authors are actively involved in isolating the bioactive constituent(s) from T. aphrodisiaca so that the plant can be standardized on the basis of biologically active constituent(s)

    HISTOPATHOLOGICAL STUDY OF ENDOMETRIUM IN ABNORMAL UTERINE BLEEDING IN REFERENCE TO DIFFERENT AGE GROUPS, PARITY AND CLINICAL SYMPTOMATOLOGY

    Background: Abnormal uterine bleeding is the commonest presenting symptom and major gynecological problem responsible for as many as one-third of all out patient gynecologic visit. An understanding of the varieties in the normal morphological appearance of the endometrium provides an essential background for the evaluation of endometrial pathology. Aims: To study the histopathology of endometrial biopsies in patients presenting with abnormal uterine bleeding and its correlation with age, parity and bleeding pattern Methods: This was a study done at tertiary care hospital from 2012-2014. Endometrial biopsies obtained from 100 cases of patients presenting with abnormal uterine bleeding were studied followed by correlation of endometrial histopathology with parity, age and bleeding pattern. Results: The most common age group presenting with abnormal uterine bleeding was 41-50 years (31%).The commonest pathology was proliferative endometrium (29%).The commonest bleeding pattern was menorrhagia (88%) and highest incidence was seen in multiparous women(58%).Conclusion: Endometrial biopsy should be recommended during the workup of patients presenting with abnormal uterine bleeding to exclude organic pathology of endometrium KEYWORDS: Abnormal uterine bleeding; Menorrhagia; Endometrium; Endometrial biopsy
