AbstractThe problem of generating a matrix A with specified eigenpairs, where A is a tridiagonal symmetric matrix, is presented. A general expression of such a matrix is provided, and the set of such matrices is denoted by SE. Moreover, the corresponding least-squares problem under spectral constraint is considered when the set SE is empty, and the corresponding solution set is denoted by SL. The best approximation problem associated with SE(SL) is discussed, that is: to find the nearest matrix  in SE(SL) to a given matrix. The existence and uniqueness of the best approximation are proved and the expression of this nearest matrix is provided. At the same time, we also discuss similar problems when A is a tridiagonal bisymmetric matrix

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Biofuel has been the focus of intensive global research over the past few years. The development of 4th generation biofuel production (algae-to-biofuels) based on metabolic engineering of algae is still in its infancy, one of the main barriers is our lacking of understanding of microalgal growth, metabolism and biofuel production. Although fatty acid (FA) biosynthesis pathway genes have been all cloned and biosynthesis pathway was built up in some higher plants, the molecular mechanism for its regulation in microalgae is far away from elucidation.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>We cloned main key genes for FA biosynthesis in <it>Haematococcus pluvialis</it>, a green microalga as a potential biodiesel feedstock, and investigated the correlations between their expression alternation and FA composition and content detected by GC-MS under different stress treatments, such as nitrogen depletion, salinity, high or low temperature. Our results showed that high temperature, high salinity, and nitrogen depletion treatments played significant roles in promoting microalgal FA synthesis, while FA qualities were not changed much. Correlation analysis showed that acyl carrier protein (ACP), 3-ketoacyl-ACP-synthase (KAS), and acyl-ACP thioesterase (FATA) gene expression had significant correlations with monounsaturated FA (MUFA) synthesis and polyunsaturated FA (PUFA) synthesis.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>We proposed that ACP, KAS, and FATA in <it>H. pluvialis </it>may play an important role in FA synthesis and may be rate limiting genes, which probably could be modified for the further study of metabolic engineering to improve microalgal biofuel quality and production.</p

The innovative adsorbents known as the Metal-organic Framework (MOFs) had a high specific surface area, various structural types, and good chemical stability. MOFs have been produced through hydrothermal, mechanochemical, microwave-assisted, gelation, and other synthesis methods, and the solvothermal process is one of them that researchers frequently utilize. The UiO materials have a more comprehensive application potential than different subtypes of MOFs among the numerous MOFs that have been synthesized. The synthesis of MOFs and their composites, as well as the adsorption characteristics of UiO materials in the adsorption of various heavy metal ions, have all been examined and summarized in this study

Epigenetic modifications such as DNA methylation are well known as connected with many important biological processes. Rapid accumulating evidence shows environmental stress can generate particular defense epigenetic changes across generations in eukaryotes. This transgenerational epigenetic inheritance in animals and plants has gained interest over the last years. Cyanobacteria play very crucial role in the earth, and as the primary producer they can adapt to nearly all diverse environments. However, few knowledge about the genome wide epigenetic information such as methylome information in cyanobacteria, especially under any environment stress, was reported so far. In this study we profiled the genome-wide cytosine methylation from a model cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803, and explored the possibility of transgenerational epigenetic process in this ancient single-celled prokaryote by comparing the DNA methylomes among normal nitrogen medium cultivation, nitrogen starvation for 72 h and nitrogen recovery for about 12 generations. Our results shows that DNA methylation patterns in nitrogen starvation and nitrogen recovery are much more similar with each other, significantly different from that of the normal nitrogen. This study reveals the difference in global DNA methylation pattern of cyanobacteria between normal and nutrient stress conditions and reports the evidence of transgenerational epigenetic process in cyanobacteria. The results of this study may contribute to a better understanding of epigenetic regulation in prokaryotic adaptation to and survive in the ever changing environment

With the continuous growth of the world’s population and the increasing development of industrialization, the demand for energy by human beings has been expanding, resulting in an increasingly severe energy crisis. Microalgae are considered the most potential alternatives to traditional fossil fuels due to their many advantages, like fast growth rate, strong carbon sequestration capacity, and low growth environment requirements. Euglena can use carbon sources such as glucose, ethanol, and others for heterotrophic growth. Moreover, Euglena is highly adaptable to the environment and has a high tolerance to various environmental stresses, such as salinity, heavy metals, antibiotics, etc. Different treatments of Euglena cells could affect their growth and the accumulation of bioactive substances, especially fatty acids. To expand the industrial application of Euglena as a potential biodiesel candidate, we determine the physiological responses of Euglena against environmental stresses (antibiotics, heavy metals, salinity) or carbon resources (glucose and ethanol), and evaluate the potential for higher quality and yield of fatty acid with a high growth rate. Adding glucose into the culture media increases cell biomass and fatty acid production with high-quality biodiesel characters. The transcriptome analysis helped explore the possible regulation and biosynthesis of fatty acids under different treatments and exploited in the improvement of biodiesel production. This study provides insights for further improvement and various culture treatments for Euglena-based biodiesel and jet fuels

The lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) has become an attractive and promising approach in computational fluid dynamics (CFD). In this paper, parallel algorithm of D3Q19 multi-relaxation-time LBM with large eddy simulation (LES) is presented to simulate 3D flow past a sphere using multi-GPUs (graphic processing units). In order to deal with complex boundary, the judgement method of boundary lattice for complex boundary is devised. The 3D domain decomposition method is applied to improve the scalability for cluster, and the overlapping mode is introduced to hide the communication time by dividing the subdomain into two parts: inner part and outer part. Numerical results show good agreement with literature and the 12 Kepler K20M GPUs perform about 5100 million lattice updates per second, which indicates considerable scalability

Relying on the middle line of south-to-north water diversion project ning storage reservoir has built the construction load impact assessment project, the study through the analysis of field conditions select reasonable monitoring section and monitoring scheme, the late monitoring, the results can reflect the overall deformation of the wall and stress, and use in advance in the wall, monitoring instruments, to the typical section of field deformation, pressure, strain and stress, automatic oblique monitoring results to introduce the stress strain of the whole wall. Research results: The soil pressure showed the larger on the outside and the slightly smaller on the inside; Concrete strain relative to the initial state in the direction of vertical wall and vertical strain increment is larger, The strain increment along the wall direction is small; The data of the reinforcement stress gauge are all negative, And the quantity value of the inner steel bar gauge continues to increase, The monitoring value of the outer steel bar gauge has a tendency to decrease gradually; Small displacement of the plastic concrete walls, Large displacement of reinforced concrete walls, And the value along the wall for the small law; The inclination displacement value of monitoring section 2-2 and 3-3 gradually decreases with the continuous construction, The displacement value of monitoring 1–1 section also becomes smaller in the first and middle stages of construction, But in the late construction, This shows that the horizontal displacement of the monitoring 1–1 section in the later construction period has a recovery trend; The top settlement value is larger at the 1st-3rd wall, About 6 mm–10mm, The 4–6 pin is smaller, About 4 mm–5mm, Article 7–10, the pin is directly crushed by the vehicle, Its value is approximately 6 mm–8mm

From obscurity to urgency: a comprehensive analysis of the rising threat of duck circovirus

Abstract Duck circovirus (DuCV) is a small, nonenveloped, single-stranded DNA virus with immunosuppressive effects on ducks that leads to slow growth and elevated mortality following mixed infections. Its infection manifests as feather loss, slow growth, swelling of respiratory tissue, and damage to immune organs in ducks. Although single infections with DuCV do not cause noticeable clinical symptoms, its ability to compromise the immune system and facilitate infections caused by other pathogens poses a serious threat to duck farming. Given the prevalence of this disease and the increasing infection rates in recent years, which have resulted in significant economic losses in duck farming and related sectors, research and control of DuCV infection have become especially important. The aim of this review is to provide a summary of the current understanding of DuCV, serving as a reference for subsequent research and effective control of the virus. We focus mainly on the genetics and molecular biology, epidemiology, clinical symptoms, and pathology of DuCV. Additionally, topics such as the isolation and culture of the virus, vaccines and antiviral therapies, diagnostics, and preventative measures are discussed
