Neutron capture cross section measurements of 238U, 241Am and 243Am at n_TOF
Proposal: Neutron capture cross section measurements of 238U, 241Am and 243Am at n_TOFThe increase of the world energy demand and the need of low carbon energy sources have triggered the renaissance and/or enhancement of nuclear energy in many countries. Fundamental nuclear physics can contribute in a practical way to the sustainability and safety of the nuclear energy production and the management of the nuclear waste. There exists a series of recent studies which address the most relevant isotopes, decay data, nuclear reaction channels and energy ranges which have to be investigated in more detail for improving the design of different advanced nuclear systems [1] and nuclear fuel cycles [2]. In this proposal, we aim at the measurement of the neutron capture cross sections of 238U, 241Am and 243Am. All three isotopes are listed in the NEA High Priority Request List [37], are recommended for measurements [1] and play an important role in the nuclear energy production and fuel cycle scenarios. The measurements will provide as well valuable nuclear structure data necessary for the improvement of nuclear models and the statistical interpretation of the nuclear propertiesPostprint (author's final draft
Plant cover of Struga Dobieszkowska reserve
The paper describes the values of the Struga Dobieszkowska
reserve. This reserve is located near Stryków, 15 km NE from Łódź, in the
valley of small river called Młynówka. There are 261 plant species growing there.
14 plant communities have been described. The most important here are the
oak-hombeam forest (Tilio-Carpinetum) the and wet alder forest (Ciracaeo-Alnetum).
The real vegetation map presents actual localization of different plant communities.
The variety of plant communities is connected with natural variation of circumstances
in the valley as well as with antropogenic factors (e.g. introduction of
pine on the rich habitats).Zadanie pt. Digitalizacja i udostępnienie w Cyfrowym Repozytorium Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego kolekcji czasopism naukowych wydawanych przez Uniwersytet Łódzki nr 885/P-DUN/2014 zostało dofinansowane ze środków MNiSW w ramach działalności upowszechniającej naukę

Geobotanical and sozological valorization of natural habitats in selected areas of the Blue-Green Network
One of the key components of The Blue-Green Network in Łódź are valuable natural areas
like the relicts of the natural wildlife (called “Green Treasures of Łódź”) which parts have been preserved in
Łódź in spite of two hundred years, very intense urbanization processes. The result of years of geobotanical
research in the city was establishing 23 areas of nature protection and proposing of 12 additional natural
areas which need to be protected (8 areas of landscape protection and 4 ecological sites). Existing and
proposed areas of nature protection, including river valleys, build the wildlife system of Łódź. Predominantly
the important role in this concept play the Łódź’s river valleys with their vegetation potential.
The Sokolowka River Valley which is located in the Northern-West part of Łódź was the exemplary
research field for geobotanical and sozological valorization of the natural habitat of the Blue-Green
Network. Within the Sokolowka valley there are retained fragments of precious nature ecosystems.Zadanie pt. „Digitalizacja i udostępnienie w Cyfrowym Repozytorium Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego kolekcji czasopism naukowych wydawanych przez Uniwersytet Łódzki” nr 885/P-DUN/2014 dofinansowane zostało ze środków MNiSW w ramach działalności upowszechniającej naukę
Nuclear data measurements at the upgraded neutron time-of-flight facility n-TOF at CERN
Applications of nuclear data like neutron-induced reaction cross sections are related to research fields as stellar nucleosynthesis, the study of nuclear level densities and strength functions, and also play a key role in the safety and criticality assessment of existing and future nuclear reactors, in areas concerning radiation dosimetry, medical applications, transmutation of nuclear waste, accelerator-driven systems and fuel cycle investigations. The evaluations in nuclear data libraries are based both on experimental data and theoretical models. CERN’s neutron time-of-flight facility n_TOF has produced a considerable amount of experimental data since it has become fully operational with the start of its scientific measurement programme in 2002. While for a long period a single measurement station (EAR1) located at 185 m from the neutron production target was available, the construction of a second beam line at 20 m (EAR2) in 2014 has substantially increased the measurement capabilities of the facility. An outline of the experimental nuclear data activities at CERN’s neutron time-of-flight facility n_TOF will be presented.Postprint (published version
First results of the new n_TOF spallation target commissioning
The Neutron Time of Flight facility n_TOF located at CERN started to take data in 2001 . Due to an increase of radioactivity released in the cooling water the experiment was stopped by end of 2004 . In 2008 a new spallation target has been installed . In 2009 the collaboration has performed the full commissioning of the facility, consisting in the determination of the fluence, the beam profile, and the energy resolution of the neutron beam. After a brief description of the new target assembly, very preliminary results concerning the shape of the neutron fluence and its absolute value will be given. Measurements of the neutron beam profile will also be shown.Postprint (published version
Reachability in High Treewidth Graphs
Reachability is the problem of deciding whether there is a path from one
vertex to the other in the graph. Standard graph traversal algorithms such as
DFS and BFS take linear time to decide reachability however their space
complexity is also linear. On the other hand, Savitch's algorithm takes
quasipolynomial time although the space bound is . Here, we study
space efficient algorithms for deciding reachability that runs simultaneously
in polynomial time.
In this paper, we show that given an vertex directed graph of treewidth
along with its tree decomposition, there exists an algorithm running in
polynomial time and space, that solves reachability in the graph
FSK-based Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer in Inductively Coupled Resonant Circuits Exploiting Frequency Splitting
Inductively coupled resonant circuits are affected by the so-called frequency
splitting phenomenon at short distances. In the area of power electronics,
tracking of one of the peak frequencies is state-of-the-art. In the data
transmission community, however, the frequency splitting effect is often
ignored. Particularly, modulation schemes have not yet been adapted to the
bifurcation phenomenon. We argue that binary frequency shift keying (2-ary FSK)
is a low-cost modulation scheme which well matches the double-peak voltage
transfer function , particularly when the quality factor is large,
whereas most other modulation schemes suffer from the small bandwidths of the
peaks. Additionally we show that a rectified version of 2-ary FSK, coined
rectified FSK (RFSK), is even more attractive from output power and
implementation points of view. Analytical and numerical contributions include
the efficiency factor, the impulse response, and the bit error performance. A
low-cost incoherent receiver is proposed. Theoretical examinations are
supported by an experimental prototype
