Health problems of family caregivers of people over 65 suffering from chronic renal failure: a systematic review

A focus on selected perspectives of the NUMEN project

The use of double charge exchange reactions is discussed in view of their application to extract information that may be helpful to determinate the nuclear matrix elements entering in the expression of neutrinoless double beta decay half-life. The strategy adopted in the experimental campaigns performed at INFN - Laboratori Nazionali del Sud and in the analysis methods within the NUMEN project is briefly described, emphasizing the advantages of the multi-channel approach to nuclear reaction data analysis. An overview on the research and development activities on the MAGNEX magnetic spectrometer is also given, with a focus on the chosen technological solutions for the focal plane detector which will guarantee the performances at high-rate conditions

The AMS technique as an important tool for the measurement of astrophysical cross sections

Accelerator Mass Spectrometry is a technique commonly used to approach low concentrations of certain long half-life radioisotopes. The most important contribution of the technique is the accurate measure of organic sample ages, by separating masses 12,13 and 14 in the case of carbon allocated in such samples. However, the reach of AMS could cover many other scientific scopes, since it can give us a precise measure of a very small concentration of a radioisotope. On this direction, AMS can be used to approach reactions of interest for astrophysics, if we spot an specific radioisotope which concentration can be measure with AMS. Starting with this, we have selected specific reactions involving 14C, 10Be and 26Al, produced with slow neutrons from a reactor and positive ions at an accelerator. The main idea is to produce a particular reaction and later to measure the radioisotopic concentration using AMS. In this study our first results for 14C and 10Be nuclei produced with neutrons, and the preliminary results for 26Al nuclei produced with deuterium are shown

New high intensity Heavy - Ion beams @ INFN-LNS : NUMEN project status and perspective

    Get PDF
The upgrade project POTLNS to produce high-intensity beams has already started at INFN- Laboratori Nazionali del Sud in Catania (Italy). The POTLNS project was triggered by the NUMEN physics case that aims to provide experimental information on the Nuclear Matrix Elements (NMEs) that enter in the expression of the neutrino-less double beta (0νββ) decay half-life. The tools proposed by NUMEN project are the cross-section measurements of nuclear Double Charge Exchange (DCE) reactions. The search for 0νββ decay is currently a key topic in physics, due to its possible wide implications for nuclear physics, particle physics and cosmology: the NUMEN project could provide a crucial contribution in this search.peerReviewe

New experimental campaign of NUMEN project

    No full text
International audienceThe NUMEN main goal is the extraction from measured cross-sections of “data-driven” information on Nuclear Matrix Elements for all the systems candidate for 0νββ. The idea is to use as experimental tool Heavy Ions –Double Charge Exchange (HI-DCE) reactions. Crucial for the experimental challanges is the INFN Laboratori Nazionali del Sud (LNS) facility, made by the Superconducting Cyclotron (CS) and the MAGNEX magnetic spectrometer. The experimental measurements of HI-DCE reactions present a number of challenging aspects, since they are characterized by very low cross sections. Here it is reported the new experimental campaign of NUMEN Project
