    Modeling and performance estimation for airborne minefield detection system

    Many programs aimed at airborne mine and minefield detection are being pursued and different algorithms are being developed and evaluated to achieve performance specifications. Thus far, no single algorithm or detection architecture has been able to fulfill the performance specifications for different mine and minefield detection scenarios...a need exists for a simulation based approach. One such simulation system is developed and evaluated in this thesis. The factors affecting the performance of an airborne detection system include physical parameters (type of background, time of day), data collection parameters (swath width, number of steps, in-step and in-flight overlap), and minefield scenarios. Data collection parameters are included in the simulation tool. False alarms and mine statistics are modeled based on the available data collected as a part of the developmental programs. Various mine and minefield detection algorithms are modeled and evaluated. Simulations are run, and Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves are used to evaluate the performance at both the mine and minefield levels.     Exploiting Data Parallelism in the yConvex Hypergraph Algorithm for Image Representation using GPGPUs

    To define and identify a region-of-interest (ROI) in a digital image, the shape descriptor of the ROI has to be described in terms of its boundary characteristics. To address the generic issues of contour tracking, the yConvex Hypergraph (yCHG) model was proposed by Kanna et al [1]. In this work, we propose a parallel approach to implement the yCHG model by exploiting massively parallel cores of NVIDIA's Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA). We perform our experiments on the MODIS satellite image database by NASA, and based on our analysis we observe that the performance of the serial implementation is better on smaller images, but once the threshold is achieved in terms of image resolution, the parallel implementation outperforms its sequential counterpart by 2 to 10 times (2x-10x). We also conclude that an increase in the number of hyperedges in the ROI of a given size does not impact the performance of the overall algorithm.Comment: 1 page, 1 figure published in Proceedings of the 27th ACM International Conference on Supercomputing, ICS 2013, Eugene, Oregon, US

    Antinociceptive evaluation of conventional anticonvulsant with conventional analgesics on pain model of albino rats and mice

    Background: Pain is one of the most common presentations of any disorder and needs immediate and appropriate attention of the treating physician. As pain syndrome involves a variety of etiopathogenesis and temporal domains, management of pain as such requires consideration of many factors that may dictate appropriate therapeutic management. Carabmazepine is an established drug for trigeminal neuralgia while Gabapentin has been tried in postoperative pain but its effectiveness per se and when compared to conventional analgesics needs to be evaluated.Methods: The present study was planned to study the analgesic effects of Gabapentin in various pain models like writhing and formalin test and to compare it with conventional analgesics like Diclofenac sodium and Tramadol in various acute pain models.Results: This study has been carried out in department of Pharmacology, HIMS, Dehradun, for evaluation of Gabapentin for its antinociceptive effect in rats and mice. In the writhing test, a reduction in number of writhes, though insignificant, was found in the Gabapentin pre-treatment group. However, in the first phase of Formalin test which is characterized by licking and biting, Gabapentin produced no significant effect in comparison to control values. In the second phase of leg raising (LR), all three drugs, i.e. Gabapentin and the two positive controls i.e. diclofenac and tramadol produced significant decrease (p< 0.05) in episodes when compared to the control group.Conclusions: Hence the result conclude that Gabapentin could be an effective analgesic drug in visceral and chronic pain in humans but not in acute pain as first phase of formalin test is model of acute and second phase denote chronic pain while writhing test is a model of visceral pain

    Antepartum haemorrhage: a retrospective analysis in a tertiary care centre

    Background: Aim of the present study was to found the incidence of APH, demographic profile risk factors and maternal outcome.Methods: This was a retrospective study carried out in Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, MGM Medical College and associated M.Y., Hospital, Indore from August 2019 to July 2020.Results: The incidence of APH was 3.27%. 68.7% cases of APH were associated with pregnancy induced hypertension suggesting PIH is one of the major risk factors. Maternal morbidity was very high with increased rates cesarean section 91.7%, postpartum hemorrhage (32.6%), need of blood transfusion (86%). There were 2 mortalities and 3.1 % patients underwent Obstetric Hystrectomy and 24% required CCU admission.Conclusions: There is very high maternal morbidity and mortality in APH.

    Drugs are known to cause various adverse drug reactions involving major organ systems. Skin-related adverse reactions are very common and range from a simple rash to life-threatening condition like Stevens-Johnson syndrome. Various drugs are known to cause skin reactions which include antiepileptics, analgesics, antibiotics, and proton-pump inhibitors. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs causing life-threatening conditions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis are very rare and only few case reports are published. Hence, we report a case of Aceclofenac-induced Stevens-Johnson syndrome after single time administration in a tertiary care hospital in India

    Analysing Mobile Random Early Detection for Congestion Control in Mobile Ad-hoc Network

    This research paper suggests and analyse a technique for congestion control in mobile ad hoc networks. The technique is based on a new hybrid approach that uses clustering and queuing techniques. In clustering, in general cluster head transfers the data, following a queuing method based on a RED (Random Early Detection), the mobile environment makes it Mobile RED (or MRED), It majorly depends upon mobility of nodes and mobile environments leads to unpredictable queue size. To simulate this technique, the Network Simulator 2 (or NS2) is used for various scenarios. The simulated results are compared with NRED (Neighbourhood Random Early Detection) queuing technique of congestion control. It has been observed that the results are improved using MRED comparatively

    Scrub typhus, myocarditis and a possible drug interaction

    Scrub typhus, caused by O. Tsutsugamushi is a re-emerging disease which is being increasingly reported from different parts of India. This disease has a wide spectrum of presentation which can range from uncomplicated febrile illness to life-threatening sepsis with multi-organ dysfunction. Myocarditis has been described as one of the rare manifestations of this infection and very few cases have been reported. Myocarditis in scrub typhus is usually subclinical and therefore many times ignored. Here, we report of a case of scrub typhus presenting without the typical rash and eschar with features of myocarditis requiring treatment. We highlight a possible drug interaction between ivabradine and doxycycline which were used in this patient. We also highlight the possibility of other drug interactions between the various drugs used in the treatment of scrub typhus and its complications and stress the need to be vigilant when prescribing multiple drugs, especially in a disease with such a varied presentation and multiple complications that require the use of a number of drugs
