The ambiguity appears to be the dominant stretch that brings together all the different qualities of the comic hero; this joins the fact that he is usually an individual marked by a marginality, with many positive virtues, but also negative, he distinguishes himself by its extraordinary natural exuberance and he is the only architect of his erga with which it reaches the kleos
Amici miei, Tebani... Classici contro al Teatro Olimpico
The Classics Vs. project gathers Italian and foreign classicists, each of whom speaks to us about
a topic, an idea, or a word from the ancient classics that might be of use to us against ethical,
aesthetic, civic and cultural issues of our world today. The classicists thus turn into
Demosthenes, Thucydides, Helenus, and Vertumnus. As occurred in Dionysus’ theatre, they
speak before the citizens through myths and stories without any mythicization but with the
brilliance of a theatrical performance and the lucidity and rigour of a philological study. The
theatre remains the location and, after a series of historical theatres in Venice and the Friuli
Venezia Giulia and Veneto regions, the Classics Vs. now have a special place in Andrea
Palladio’s Olympic Theatre
Parrhesia. Una parola per i 'Classici contro'
Starting from some considerations on the relationship between the Classics and the problems of our modern world, that is at the center of the project "Classici contro", this paper examines the distinctive traits and pragmatic situation of parrhesia, i.e. freedom of speech, in the first texts in which it appears. Parrhesia is regularly connected with citizens' freedom and is always in opposition to tyranny. It is not an easy task and involves risks. It is not only a right but a duty for the life of the polis and democracy
Classici contro. Storia di un'idea per fuggire dal freezer
The aim of this paper is to explain the genesis of the project Classici contro. The idea, developed together with Filippomaria Pontani, is to bring the voice of the ancient classics – with their freedom of speech and their critical thinking – to historical theaters, and now to Vicenza's Teatro Olimpico, designed by Andrea Palladio. Like Tragedy and Comedy in the Theater of Dionysus in ancient Athens, the Classics speak for all citizens. In a globalized world, the classical Greek and Roman authors may contribute to an understanding of the present and to think about the future
