This study tested the effect of role models of engineering students and how they are different between male and female students. Subjects were 956 male and female engineering students. The results showed that female students lacked role models in various areas compared to male engineering students. Also, the existence of same gender professors in the learning environment was the key element of female and male students' academic competence, adjustment to the classes, and involvements in the class. This results indicated that female engineering students are suffering from the career barriers in their environments and the implications are discussed
