We investigated the continuing learning of clinical psychologists that graduated Showa Women\u27s University. The results were as follows: (1) Of the alumni, 85.3% were working as part-time employees, with more than half working in educational institutions and rest in hospitals. (2) They desired extra skills as clinical psychologists, including assessment skills, test data interpretation and feedback, and skills facilitating interactions between different jobs. They considered these skills to be important, regardless of the field of occupation and the number of years of working as a clinical psychologist. (3) They usually obtained these skills by reading related books and articles and through counseling sessions with work colleagues. Nevertheless, they desired their supervision and opportunities to attend seminars on the practice of helping professions

Since its establishment 14 years ago, the annual number of counseling cases has increased from 6 to 57 at the Institute of Psychological Studies(IPS.) In accordance with this increase, we will examine what unique roles make this institute distinguishable from the other institutions including such things as the educational counseling center, rehabilitation center for disabled children and psychiatric clinic. We also study the possible assistance which can be provided within the community and find the appropriate consulting system which fulfills its purpose. According to the brief summary of cases treated by IPS in 2006 and 2007, the clients are grouped mainly into women in their thirties and minors. Cases commonly treated include developmental disorder which is seen in infants and elementary school students, as well as domestic issues which commonly occur amongst women in their thirties. Most of our clients visit IPS with a referral from a clinic for psychiatry or psychosomatic medicine having no certified clinical psychologist and therefore, counseling and examinations by certified clinical psychologists have been key responsibilities of IPS.Consequently, it is conceivable that training for the graduate students working for IPS as interns should focused more on assessment and counseling with active listening

Japanese edition of a resilience scale was developed its reliability and construct validity was examined and used to investigate the relationship between resilience and negative life events. The scale was based on the Resilience Quotient (RQ) by Reivich and Shatte (2002). A 56-item questionnaire was administered to 110 undergraduates together with the Vulnerability Scale, the Negative Life Event Scale and the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ). The results of factor analysis suggested the four factors- "causal analysis", "mental strength", "challenged-mind" and "self regulation" . The internal consistency of each subscale was assessed using Cronbach\u27s alpha coefficient. Mental toughness and self- regulation had a significant relationship with vulnerability. An analysis of variance revealed that people with lower GHQ scores had higher resilience compared to those who had experienced many negative life events. Moreover, the number of significant negative life event could have affected mental strength

This fundamental study investigated if picture appreciation could be established as a form of psychotherapy by focusing on changes of feeling as an index of the mental effect of picture appreciation, in addition to the language description method, which is a form of picture appreciation therapy. Participants were 30 males and 30 females. We examined whether the mental effect differed depending on the type of picture, its impression and participants\u27taste. Seven factors were extracted by factor analysis of measures of current feelings. Results indicated that when the impression created by a picture was positive, the mental effect of picture appreciation changed positively regardless of the type of picture
