Excitonic condensation under spin-orbit coupling and BEC-BCS crossover

    Get PDF
The condensation of electron-hole (e-h) pairs is studied at zero temperature and in the presence of a weak spin-orbit coupling (SOC) in the inversion-layer quantum wells. Under realistic conditions, a perturbative SOC can have observable effects in the order parameter of the experimentally long-searched-for excitonic condensate. Firstly, the fermion exchange symmetry is absent for the e-h pairs indicating a counterexample to the known classification schemes of fermion pairing. With the lack of fermion exchange, the condensate spin has no definite parity. Additionally, the excitonic SOC breaks the rotational symmetry yielding a complex order parameter in an unconventional way, i.e. the phase pattern of the order parameter is a function of the condensate density. This is manifested through finite off diagonal components of the static spin susceptibility, suggesting a new experimental method to confirm an excitonic condensate.Comment: Accepted for publication by Physical Review Letter

THE EXHAUSTION OF A CHAMPION: FROM WHERE DOES SÜREYYA RUN?

To be a champion is the purpose of every athlete. Becoming national champion, followed by obtaining the title of European Champion and then victory in the Olympiad make up a sequence which all athletes try to complete. An athlete should win many competitions in order to be renowned. Süreyye Ayhan, recently the most frequently spelled name in Turkish athleticism, also paved the same way in her first years. She became successful in running mid-range distances. Starting a race by an early attack, she seemed insurmountable. As she scored more and more successes, her ambition for still more and her fear of loss brought her to the point of unsportsmanlike behavior. It is not infrequent that a sportswoman/sportsman succumbs to fame, to individual and public benefits and resorts to unethical ways. To go on scientifically and also ethically seem to become unbearable for such individuals. While the world sport system intensively struggles against taking doping material, disobeying rules become a repugnancy and finally, guilt. Subjects such as legality, responsibility, self-control, increasing knowledge ought to be continually and positively valued and revalued. Mature relationships among competitors as well as organizers should take place by observance of rules. These are the general themes of this paper.  Article visualizations

Academic dishonesty has been regarded as a problem but not a visible and declared one in every type of educational setting from elementary school to graduate level all over the world. Dishonesty or misconduct in the academic realm covers plagiarism, fabrication, deception, cheating, bribery, sabotage, professorial misconduct and impersonation. Whisper Campaign is another misconduct that is employed to spread rumors about someone in order to hurt that person's reputation or the systematic dissemination by word of mouth of derogatory rumors or charges especially against a candidate for public office. This paper presents how whisper campaigns run in the academic world with the help of the experiences the author himself has had. In other words, this paper exhibits the process and stages of experimental learning of an adult academician who has been exposed to a whisper campaign which leads to a model of learning under adult learning: The two and a half learning model. In this model, two and half colleagues design and start a whisper campaign that covers five stages: Targeting, Rumor and gossip, Slander, Complaining and Enlightenment. Keywords: Academic misconduct, Adult learning, Two and a half learning model, Whisper campaig

In this study, a decision taken by the Ministry of Education of the implementation of school-aged children's cognitive, physical and sensory effects on the development of physical education is aimed to discuss the future of the teaching profession. In 2014, the Ministry of Education took a decision in favor of the gradual abolition of Technical High School, Technical High School, Vocational School, Vocational High School, and Anatolian Vocational High School of Health Physical Education classes. ”Physical exercise is the devil's work" said the Catholic church in the medieval process of physical education and sport for hundreds of years had put bans. With the Enlightenment, these prohibitions began to unravel. In Europe In the beginning of secularization efforts in Europe, it showed itself in sports, science, culture and art. Today, our country in which we have been experiencing it is enough to check it out the relevant articles of the Constitution. It is very clear that abolition of physical education classes in vocational high schools is contrary to the Basic Law of National Education and Constitution. As a result, Abolishing of physical education in vocational courses obesity, inactiveness, and behavior in school-aged youth is a widespread concern. It is very clear that physical education classes in the training program which has been the first underestimated lesson from the first lesson. It reveals the malign perspective of Ministry of Education. By reducing of lesson hours and then abolishing of the courses, physical education teachers will be become stranger to applying the job, expanding of sport activities

This research aims to determine the level of participation of secondary school students in Burdur in extracurricular sports activities and the issues they experience. 247 secondary school students in Burdur participated in this research. A survey composed of a total of 19 questions developed by Selçuk (2006) was used. In conclusion; when taking into account the factor of which grade secondary school students are in, it has been determined that football and volleyball are the most preferred branches of sport in all grades, and that there are statistically no significant differences between extracurricular sports activities according to which grade students are in. It has been determined that secondary school students who have participated in the study statistically present no significant differences in their extracurricular sports activities according to the profession of their fathers. It has been determined that the support shown by the families of students participating in the study in terms of their engagement in sports, statistically demonstrates no significant difference according to the number of people in the family. It has been determined that the support shown by the families of students participating in the study in terms of their engagement in sports, statistically demonstrates no significant difference according to the profession of their mothers. It has been observed that the rate of support given for engaging in sport by families of participants whose mothers are white collar workers are higher than other families. It has been determined that statistically, there are significant differences between extracurricular sports activities secondary school students engage in, according to their genders. It was found that the changes in academic status during the which secondary school students participate in extracurricular sports competitions statistically demonstrates no significant difference according to their genders

Although sports science mainly deals with understanding and researching human motion, it is rarely seen to its efforts to understand facts on the basis of philosophy. Doping is an agent that is used in this process and can not be hidden in body and consciousness. Although it is the easiest to understand and evolve with the developing tests, the athletes can drive doping. Doping is a conscious human action that wraps the body as a cancer that has been taken prisoner and makes a human devastate. Doping that commonly is used in all kinds of competition sports, but especially in sports that require force and revealed the usage of it after the competition tests should not enter to Kırkpınar. “Epidemic doping drugs” is the striking example to conscious stumble of athletes. In this study, it is aimed to discuss whether there is a place of doping in Kırkpınar spirit. When the Kırkpınar Oil Wrestling considered as “the traditional oil wrestling, inherited from the Ottoman Empire and the longest organized sport event” doping case should not be mentioned in meadow. However, in recent years Kırkpınar oil wrestling has also been influenced by the doping wind. Encountering to doping in various sporting competitions-contests in all age groups including amateur, professional, local - national, international, and Olympic games - felt the question that “Is not a drama?” “In the recent years, when science and technique have advanced at a great pace, increasing sport diversity has been changing constantly with differentiating lifestyles.” Our countryman, is working on stand out against difficult living conditions, should continue to seek to devote more time to health and sport in order to avoid getting lost among the advanced technology that human has created or can not isolate himself. In Kırkpınar oil wrestling which is accepted as the "wrestling Olympic" of the regional oil wrestling where the doping controls are not made, making the controls systematic is a positive step for the life and continuing of the Kırkpınar spirit.  Article visualizations

Ankara : The Institute of Economics and Social Sciences of Bilkent Univ., 1993.Thesis (Master's) -- Bilkent University, 1993.Includes bibliographical refences. This study sought to identify the most common tense and aspect errors in the written English of native Turkish-speaking, first-year undergraduate learners of English as a foreign language. The study was based on error analysis to form a basis for teachers, syllabus designers, textbook writers, and researchers. The data used in this study were elicited from the written discourse of one hundred volunteers from different faculties at Cumhuriyet University in Sivas. The written discourse was elicited by asking students to write a short autobiographical essay. Verb strings were identified and categorized as types of syntactic and semantic/pragmatic errors. Syntactic errors were identified applying the surface structure formula given below to the each verb string in the data: Tense + ( Modal) t (have + -en) + (be + -ing) + Main verb Semantic/pragmatic errors were identified by referring to the larger context and inferring the intended meaning. The results of the study showed that semantic/pragmatic errors were more common than syntactic errors in the written English of Turkish students. Out of 316 errors, 61.39% were semantic/pragmatic errors and 38.60% were syntactic errors. Semantic/pragmatic errors were categorized into two types: 1) verb tense and aspect errors and 2) lexical errors. The majority of semantic/pragmatic errors (71.64%) were verb tense and aspect errors, and 28.35% were lexical errors. Verb tense and aspect errors fell into four categories: use of present tense instead of past tense (30.93%); use of present progressive aspect instead of simple present (24.46%); use of present perfect aspect instead of simple past (23.02%); and use of past tense instead of present tense (21.58%). Syntactic errors were categorized into four types: misuse of the progressive aspect; lack of subject-verb agreement; omission of the verb; and misordered verb string· Among the syntactic error categories, misuse of the progressive aspect (33.60%) was the largest group. Lack of subject- verb agreement constituted 30.32% of the syntactic errors, omission of the verb constituted 27.04%, and misordered verb string constituted 9.01%. Misuse of the progressive aspect was categorized into two types of errors: omission of the auxiliary 'be' (63.41%), and omission of the '-ing' morpheme (36.58%). The omission of verbs was also categorized into two types: omission of the copula (78.78%) and omission of other verbs (21.21%). The findings of the study suggest that the meaning of tenses is more problematic than the form. Thus, the teaching of tense and aspect should be contextualized in meaningful discourse. Syntactic errors may be treated by focusing on oral and written drills.Şahin, Mehmet KadirM.S

In this study, we have investigated the ground state energy level of electrons in modulation doped GaAs/AlxGa1-xAs heterojunctions. For this purpose, Schrodinger and Poisson equations are solved self consistently using quantum genetic algorithm (QGA). Thus, we have found the potential profile, the ground state subband energy and their corresponding envelope functions, Fermi level, and the amount of tunneling charge from barrier to channel region. Their dependence on various device parameters are also examined.Comment: 16 pages, 5 figures, 1 tabl
