Bağımlılıkla Mücadelede Koruyucu ve Önleyici Faktörlerin İncelenmesi: Yaşam Becerilerinin Rolü

Gelişimsel olarak risk grubunda bulunan çocuk ve ergenlerin karşı karşıya kalabileceği bağımlılık türleri içinde madde bağımlılığı önemli bir yer tutmaktadır. Bilindiği gibi bağımlılık noktasında gelişimsel olarak risk altında bulunan çocuk ve ergenlerin karşı karşıya kalabileceği madde bağımlılığına yönelik farklı perspektiflere sahip önleme ve müdahale programları geliştirilmektedir. Bununla birlikte madde bağımlılığını önleme amaçlı programların daha çok bilgilendirmeye dayalı oldukları görülmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı ergenlerde madde bağımlılığı ile yaşam becerileri arasındaki ilişkinin belirlenmesidir. Bu doğrultuda madde kullanımına/ bağımlılığına ilişkin olarak ergenlerin ve ailelerinin tutumları, düşünceleri ve başlama hikâyelerinden hareketle maddeye başlanma nedenleri, madde kullanmanın sonuçları ve madde bağımlılığını önlemede yaşam becerilerinin önem ve işlevini ortaya koymak amacıyla nitel bir araştırma yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri odak grup görüşmesi tekniği ile ebeveyn (45 ebeveyn) ve gençlerden (42 genç) oluşan toplam 87 kişi ile 10 ayrı görüşmeden toplanmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin incelenmesi, nitel veri analizi tekniğine uygun olarak geliştirilen MAXQDA programı ile bilgisayar ortamında yapılmıştır Analizler sonucunda madde kullanan ergenlerin aileleri ile sorun yaşadıkları, aileleri ve arkadaşlarıyla ilişkilerinin iyi olmadığı, okul başarılarının ve okula bağlılıklarının düşük olduğu bulguları elde edilmiştir. 4H Yaşam Becerileri Modeli kapsamında yapılan değerlendirmeyle ergenlerin madde kullanımını önlemede etkili olabileceğine inandıkları yaşam becerileri arasında duyuşsal alanda sosyal beceriler, iletişim ve besleyici ilişkiler kurabilme; bilişsel alanda problem çözme, maddeye karşı koyma ve hedef belirleme; sağlık alanında duyguları yönetme ve öz disiplin gibi becerilerin ön plana çıktığı görülmektedir

Transforming buildings, reorienting lives: the desire for gentrification in Istanbul

How do the marginalized middle-lower-class residents of a neighborhood yearn for and participate in gentrification? In Istanbul, the low-quality building stock and risk of earthquakes intensifies the need for urban transformation, making it seem inevitable and desirable. This article focuses on the experience of gentrification in the Hasanpaşa neighborhood of Istanbul, using an intersectional lens to discuss how the locals, who cultivate a reorienting agency, give consent and aspire for urban change. A form of aspirational normativity emerges among the locals, driving the positive affect around the ideal and materiality of renewal–exemplified by the transformation of an abandoned power plant into a cultural complex. The case of Hasanpaşa shows that we need to take into account the different starting points, multiple contextual features, and intersecting social positions in order to have a more complete understanding of the landscapes of urban change

State homophobia, sexual politics, and queering the Boğaziçi resistance

In the midst of the Boğaziçi resistance against the top-down appointment of the new rector, a form of resistance to state homophobia emerges and resonates with the changing dynamics of sexual politics in Turkey. Following President Erdogan’s demonization of LGBTI+ students as terrorists, police raided their on-campus office and confiscated rainbow flags as what they called evidence of an assumed connection to terrorist activities. This essay examines the process through which the LGBTI+ students at Boğaziçi University epitomize the recent queering of sexualities in Turkey with their destabilizing and nonbinary gender/sexual identities, political struggles against heteronormativity and homonormativity, and recalcitrant demands for creating safe public spaces of performative, intimate, and challenging visibility. State homophobia manifest itself as a response to the students’ demands and to the institutional culture that enables the making of a queer public through activism and resistance

Living like a hetero: southern homonormativity in Istanbul

Research on homonormativity in the Global North has burgeoned in the last 20 years as there have been developments to include sexual minorities as equal members of society. However, little is known about the emergent forms of homonormativity in the Global South where in most cases the improvements in terms of sexual rights and citizenship in the Global North did not echo. Despite the lack of the legal, economic, and cultural infrastructure, an inchoate Southern homonormativity unfolds among gay men through their gender performances, bodily presentations, class positions, and neoliberal aspira- tions. Southern homonormativity is a cultural formation that takes place in settings where there is no institutional change and legal reforms to define, recognize, and embrace the gay citizens (and families) as equal, legitimate, and respected members of society. By using interviews and ethnographic home visits in Istanbul, Turkey, this article explores how homonormativity is contextually driven and flexible, and how privileged gay men un- derstand and navigate homonormative precepts in a context within the Global South
