Can Polymer Solar Cells Open the Path to Sustainable and Efficient Photovoltaic Windows Fabrication?

Sunlight is among the most abundant energy sources available on our planet. Finding adequate solutions to properly and efficiently harvest it is of major importance to potentially solve the global energy crisis. Polymer solar cells have been introduced in the late 20th century as low‐cost and easily processed alternative to the state‐of‐the‐art silicon photovoltaics. Their power conversion efficiencies, which were initially rather low, are constantly improving and now reach values close to 15 %. As their optical properties can be easily tuned, designing active layer which absorb homogeneously throughout the visible spectrum is relatively simple. These peculiar characteristics enable the possibility to fabricate visibly transparent solar cells with high color rendering indices which can be employed as photovoltaic windows. After reviewing some of the most successful examples of polymer solar cell‐based transparent photovoltaic window fabrication, I will discuss the possibility to produce these devices in a sustainable and/or eco‐friendly manner while maintaining their performances

Information transmission in coalitional voting games

A core allocation of a complete information economy can be characterized as one that would not be unanimously rejected in favor of another feasible alternative by any coalition. We use this test of coalitional voting in an incomplete information environment to formalize a notion of resilience. Since information transmission is implicit in the Bayesian equilibria of such voting games, this approach makes it possible to derive core concepts in which the transmission of information among members of a coalition is endogenous. Our results lend support to the credible core of Dutta and Vohra [4] and the core proposed by Myerson [11] as two that can be justified in terms of coalitional votin

Axiomatic characterization of the absolute median on cube-free median networks

In Vohra, European J. Operational Research 90 (1996) 78 – 84, a characterization of the absolute median of a tree network using three simple axioms is presented. This note extends that result from tree networks to cube-free median networks. A special case of such networks is the grid structure of roads found in cities equipped with the Manhattan metric.

Bringing about Changes at a Large Engineering College: Lessons for Designers and Implementers of Large Scale Change Efforts

This paper outlines a change management program undertaken at Maritime Engineering Institute in India. The intervention came in the form of a focused three month effort where the first author, a professor of OB at a leading management school in India was invited to stay on the campus of the institute to familiarize herself with the organization and the processes, and suggest necessary changes. The paper presents the change management process in detail. The events and happenings during this intervention are discussed in terms of the dilemmas it posed for the consultant and in retrospect for exploring why the change process could not be institutionalized. Lessons from the intervention are offered to help deal with the less obvious and critical issues that can emerge as stumbling blocks in the successful implementation of any change process.
